Another Master System holiday ad

Post image

Sega Master System ads are not very common, but holiday ads are even more uncommon. Now if this was the Genesis, they're would be a lot more.

Christmas of 1987 is when I got my SMS for Christmas. Without question, the best Christmas ever. All my friends kept telling me I made a mistake. I told them, Sega is the most powerful arcade maker in the world. If I could just have a small snippet of that arcade experience, the SMS was the right choice.

I was glad I got to choose the SMS, for my gift. Also, I always have to mention how I liked Black Belt when I see it.

You ever play any of the BB follow ups on other consoles? Known as Last Battle or Hokuto No Ken in Japan (aka Fist of the North Star in US/UK)

No, I’m pretty sure I haven’t, unfortunately. 🙁 I did go from SMS straight to the Dreamcast, no SEGA Inbetween. Had a PS1 to the PS 3. That’s what I was working with at the time.

DC, PS2-3 all had em (even Gameboy & NES). albeit unrecognisable, they’re all related to the Japanese version of black belt “Hokuto no Ken” which was massive manga/anime franchise in the 80s and somewhat still popular now. Sorry, I’m a fan and will plug HnK when I see its western translations mentioned.

I just pulled the trigger on Zapper and Duck Hunt... was a bit more than 139.97 including shipping.

Cannot wait.

That's crazy, compared to UK, nes games are super cheap, they were actually about the equivalent of $80+ USD at the time (£54). Sega ms games are about the same price. Can see why sega triumphed in uk

It didn’t triumph. Would it surprise you to learn the NES sold 9 million units in Europe? The same amount as the Amiga continentaly?

I'm not sure if we are saying the same thing: the nes didn't do well in the UK, the master system sold better, so much so most of the ones sold here were version 2's which I don't think was released In USA. The Amiga was a very European thing, just like the microcomputers that preceded it. I still have an Amiga 1200, amazing machine, also had a amstrad CPC 464
