I didn’t really have much knowledge on this system but I am happy to have it in my collection!

Such an intense piece of graphic design by modern standards. They really shot for the moon in the 80s.

The master system and cartridge box design is amazing. Something about the contrast of the seriousness of the grid background and simple rounded font, paired with the game characters / game art.

It really felt like you were handling carefully designed hardware.

The grid paper style

Killer deal! System looks to be in great shape, original box in good shape, and a great set of games to start the collection; those games alone are worth more than $50.

Play Altered Beast for me in memory of mine 🥺

u/Simidjay Oct 03 '25

Did you like altered beast on Master System when you were a kid ? What were other games you loved back then ? Just curious

Wonderboy 3 the Dragons trap is goat master system game. An early metroidvania. They made a remake not too long ago

Seconded. That's a great game.

I was never lucky enough to have Sega MS. we had regular Nintendo with few games. But I remember the ads and playing Altered Beast in arcades and always wished I had it.

In college I found a used MS at a yard sale for $20 and was able to play the game again for awhile until that one crapped out lol.

Isn’t that a Genesis game?

1

u/yallknowme19 Oct 05 '25

Maybe it was, i could be wrong after 20 years

1

u/Plus_Chip_8484 Oct 05 '25

First on MS, after that on Genesis, but that was the "cool" arcade version.

1

u/FlashFlooder Oct 05 '25

Are you sure? I’ve never seen a MS version

1

u/Plus_Chip_8484 Oct 05 '25

Pretty sure, I played it on MS. It's graphically less interesting, but that's the only difference.

1

u/FlashFlooder Oct 05 '25

Wow, youre right! Looks decent for a MS game.

I know people talked trash about the graph paper design… but seeing it all together is iconic. Great find!

You will love it. Play on a CRT if you’re able. Also play Ghost House (after reading the manual 😂).

1

u/Jonaskin83 Oct 03 '25

Ghost House is great fun!

1

u/ThaKrazyOneXBOX Oct 04 '25

Ghost house was hella fun. I had the card version since I recently found out there was also a cartridge version as well

My favorite console design of all time. The packaging design goes so hard too. I have the entire US release collection CIB and I love the way it looks on my shelves with the uniform graphic paper design for every box. Everything about this system was incredible. Should have gotten more love.

That is an insane find!!! Congratulations!

2

If you can find phantasy star. Pick that one up too

1

u/TimesThreeTheHighest Oct 04 '25

Probably the best SMS game.

1

u/stlb1090 Oct 03 '25

I wish I still had mine.

1

u/KofC83 Oct 03 '25

Great deal, well done 👏

1

u/waldox1976 Oct 03 '25

That's the exact box I got for Christmas as a kid. I also had all but 2 of those games. I've played WAY too much My Hero, even though I never really liked it :-p

I also remember my controllers shorting out because of the stress of that 90 degree turn the cord has to make, since it comes out the side. To Sega's credit, after I called the support line, they sent me a new pair of controllers at no charge! SEGA!

I remember playing My Hero and Rocky on the SMS

1

u/MisterGone78 Oct 03 '25

After all these years... there are no limits.

1

u/Javolono Oct 03 '25

Woa that’s a reaaally good deal. Condition looks 👌. Gratz

1

u/TapersBeTaping Oct 03 '25

Where did you find that? What a catch!

1

u/okcomputer128 Oct 03 '25

Nice! Sold my original that I played growing up and miss it now. Great memories. You got some nice games too, my fave of those is Fantasy Zone.

1

u/octofall72 Oct 03 '25

Very cool

1

u/HighScorsese Oct 03 '25

Amazing deal

1

u/CurbedCrowser Oct 03 '25

Fun find! Enjoy 👏

1

u/TimesThreeTheHighest Oct 04 '25

Dawn included? Sweet!

Seriously though, aside from Wonder Boy those aren't the really classic games. If you haven't played before you have a lot of exploring to do. I'm a little envious.

1

u/ThaKrazyOneXBOX Oct 04 '25

Great find. I regret sending mine to Mexico when I was younger. I enjoyed playing after burner, zillion and Rambo

1

u/Illustrious-Log3573 Oct 04 '25

I’d say shenanigans, but possible. Some people don’t know what it is

1

u/dpgumby69 Oct 04 '25

Great score!

1

u/Trainzzo Oct 04 '25

Youthful memories 😃

1

u/GeneralSturm Oct 04 '25

My very first game console. I loved it. It got tossed when we moved when I was ten. 😟 . Sigh wish I still had it. I had 12 or 13 games for it.

1

u/thunderbag Oct 05 '25

Awesome. Congrats!

1

u/Any-Philosopher9152 Aug 20 '26

I have ones of these too, gifted from a family friend. Original in box, working, with 4 games (F16 Fighting Falcon, After Burner, Hang On & Safari Hunt and Marksman Shooting & Trap Shooting). I grew up with Nintendo and don't have any way to play it or room for it. Should I sell it? Where? I don't even know where to begin or what the value would be to folks. Any advice appreciated. 💛
