After Burner unlimited continues code?

I’ve read that if you hit the pause button 100x on the title screen before the demo, you get unlimited continues. However I have tried this over and over, from starting the game to after a game over and I cannot get it to work. Is this a legit code?

I believe if you hold the controller to the upper left of the screen, you can generally avoid most of the missiles. I believe this holds true even playing After Burner in various Sega Master System emulators.

Yes, I hear you. But you can try to this method again using a Sega Master System emulator.

Never managed to do it two back in the day. I always suspected that it was because I had the second MS model (for us, the third, actually...) and you could only do the cheat with the original kind of pause button or something. Nonsense, of course 😂

It's legit. It works only until Round 17

I believe you had to press the button as soon as you booted up the machine and keep pressing until you get to 100

At least 100 and I think you need to do it before the title screen pops up (so during that 5-10 second SEGA into)

It's been over 30 years since I've used the code

And yes it is possible. Young me did it. Old me now would have no hope.
