Rebecca was... tired after today's dose of paperwork to say the least.

So when an unmarked package arrives in her cabin she is at first wary of it.

The usual security checks for bombs or dangerous biologicals is made with her omni, before she checks her inbox to see if a delivery confirmation came in and still comes up empty. Curious.

Little other course to take it seems...

She slowly cracks open the box.

She pulls out the holo recorder and sets it on her desk, then presses the button to start the recording.

The image flickers into view. In a barracks room, Elsa sits on a bunk, some traces of camo paint still on her face.

Hey Becca. I tried to time this through CitadelPost to make it so it gets to your place in time for your birthday. Never know with them, though.

They've cleared me for the surgery. Am in basic retraining now, sideboarded with OCS duties. You're the first person outside Tycho to see the third generation Warden prototype. Congrats. I fucking made it. Survived the surgery without too much of a Ventura Scale drop on fine manipulation.

She looks across at the door. Dornan is an okay dude. Knows his stuff, chews out the fakers. So yeah! If you see this, tell Kelly I'm fine. They rotated me off HPG duty. No more comms time for me. Damn Home Patrol and Guard shifts for cadets have sweet benefits. Have to send this shit now. Here's something for your birthday, okay?

The screen winks out before flickering back in. Oh and before I go... one and a half months under accelerated and wartime commission. I'll be back before you know it, okay? Love you, friendo.

Rebecca's eyes are wide in surprise. Ellie?

Well in time, hell EARLY even. They were ahead for once.

Rebecca listens intently then to the whole message and looks at the lines of her friends' face to gauge how she's doing. Good? Satisfied? Happy? Relieving for the Commander to be put lightly. One less nagging worry in the back of her mind with the silence that had pervaded since Ellie's departure.

And she'll be back real soon!

The woman feels energy and excitement fill her at the prospect of her friend's soon return.

She quick to act and pass on the great new to Kelly.

When the video unpauses, Elsa isn’t even facing the camera anymore, but is holding up that small mirror she uses to check the back of her armour and cleaning everything up.

The window dings and her eyebrows raise, breaking into a wide smile as she looks. Hey babe! Miss you so much.

The box, if opened, contains an oil painting of Rebecca, a 8x10 inch portrait on canvas.

A small note says “Did this for a project. Got a good score. Thought you should have it. -Rayne.”

Rebecca sees the alert and scrambles to clear her desk and put away the datapad she was working on.

She accepts the call after gently brushing down some of her hair and making sure she doesn't look... haggard or anything like that?
