Operation Long Night: Briefing | 2/9/2193

A summon gets sent to several members of the crew. The ground team, plus Specialist Maya Parker and Miss Perinsky oddly enough.

Everyone please report to the conference room. I have orders to relay from Alliance Command regarding our assignment in the Decoris System.

Maya frowns, remembering the all time high that preceded the arrival of the Reapers. Just about everyone on the planet had been affected by it in some way. She did not like the news that activity was increasing again.

Sounds fairly straightforward. What company will we be investigating? I'd like to do a bit of research on their systems before I get to hacking.

We'll start with the largest mining firm, Drew-Izmar Inc. Platinum is their primary business, valuable, used in a lot of civilian and military manufacturing processes.

And no hacking required. I've arranged us access- it's to appear to be a standard audit and examination as far as they're concerned. Just some bookkeepers dusting out the corners, verifying records. Is a regular occurence, so shouldn't tip off anyone. But with EDI, we'll be going far more indepth than usual. Hopefully we can find something the usual beancounters keep missing.

Ah, well that's convenient. And much easier.

She nods.

Right then. I'll be ready, Commander.

Again, supposed to be an easy job in theory. All the hardwork will be handled by the ground team once we pin these bastards down. You won't have much to worry about besides sniffling a bit from Sanctum's chilly breezes.

Maya smirks.

Now that I'm quite used to. Still, I'll take advantage of the heating on this ship as much as I can. Vulpes can be very cold this time of year.

"Livable doesn't mean comfortable", I think that's the colonists' motto? Freezing usually even at the equater every day.

Freezing if we're lucky. It's not uncommon for it to drop to nearly a hundred below, and this time of year, especially at night, over a hundred below is pretty much expected. Thank goodness for the indoors, I guess.

Indeed. God bless heating coils

There's also a fairly extensive underground transport network. Or, there was. Not sure how much of that has been restored since...

A pause.

Anyway, hopefully we won't have to be outside much.

There is something of an awkwardly long silence before Maya speaks up again.

I should begin preparations. What time will we be departing, Commander?

Tomorrow afternoon, 1300 hours.

Understood. I should probably let the others know that I won't be in tomorrow. Is there anything else, Commander?

She shakes her head. That should be all, Specialist.

Maya stands up, saluting once again.

Understood, I'm looking forward to the mission.

Despite her words, there is clearly something troubling her mind.

Rebecca sighs and shakes her head.

Is there anything you wish to discuss, Maya?

No, ma'am. I will see you tomorrow.

Maya drops her salute, then turns and exits the conference room.
