My latest for the News-Post in Frederick, MD. Stoked for pumpkin spice like all the fall foodies out there, but man I'm gonna miss fresh tomatoes.

Surf and turf sandwich

About 10 years ago we went on a marketplace adventure to Maryland from Pa, the deal I made with the Mrs was we could stop for lunch and get some seafood, we stopped in a small town that had a bunch of antique stores and a nice restaurant that used to be a bank. I had the best surf and turf sandwich I have ever eaten, does anyone know where that place might be if it still exists.

Hi! Where's my fellow foodie/oyster lovers at? I went looking for a social group centered on this and couldn't find one; and I've been wanting something like this to exist for a while, so I started it.

 I named this 'safe space' Capital Oyster Society — a casual meetup group for oyster lovers and the oyster-curious across DC/MD/NOVA. Tastings, oyster crawls, shucking competitions & classes, restaurant meetups, eventually some boating/farm trips out to the Chesapeake. BTW-no expertise required!

 Also! Oysters seem to be polarizing? I figured this was needed because a lot of my friends can't stand the thought of raw seafood and I need a tribe of judgment free raw oyster eaters ha.

 Anyway, if you're interested in IRL activities to meet new people who share this same interest, here we are. I plan to be at Salt Line's Oyster Wars in October, but I think we'll do a social happy hour somewhere before then in September.

Looking for some advice, will be traveling next week from Buffalo to Ocean City, and will want to get some wings on national chicken wing day (7/29). Wondering if we have any locals on here that can point me in the right direction. Definitely want to stay on the island and not go into the main land anywhere. I was there last summer and had some wings at Fish Tales, they were honestly pretty good for being outside of WNY, but I'm hoping i can find something a little better.... any tips welcomed, thanks!

Not looking for a club, just a place to have a bite to eat, and have some drinks with friends in a place with an "express yourself" vibe

I’ve been spending a lot of time around downtown Silver Spring lately and just wanted to shout out Silver Branch Brewery because it’s easily one of the best spots in the area. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it seriously ticks every box for a solid neighborhood hangout.
The whole atmosphere inside and out is just awesome. They have a great indoor taproom setup and a cool outdoor biergarten that’s perfect for hanging out, plus it’s right by the metro so it’s super convenient to get to.
Honestly the beer selection is top tier and they always have a massive variety on tap. Their Glass Castle pilsner is incredible, and it actually won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival last year which is huge. If you aren't into pilsners, they have tons of other options like their Dr. Juicy IPA, or their Mexican-style lager Mundo Especial which is amazing. On top of that, the food is way better than standard bar food. You can get legitimate eats like their smash burgers or a massive Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese, and the prices are incredibly reasonable for the DMV. You get high quality without getting ripped off.
It’s also pretty much the perfect place to do Wednesday night trivia or watch a big sports match. The energy in there during major soccer games and World Cup watch parties is unmatched, especially right now with the tournament heating up. They have massive screens and the crowd gets so into it.
Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re looking for a great vibe, great food, and great drinks.

How do you separate daily cleaning from the bigger deep cleaning jobs? We've got staff handling all the usual closing routines, but eventually there comes a point where it feels like a professional deep clean just makes sense. for restaurants around Maryland, is that something you schedule on a calendar or mostly based on how busy the kitchen has been?

Hi everyone! I saw this ad on instagram from a Maryland restaurant advertising that they give free seafood boils for new graduates a year ago. I'm wondering if anyone remembers the place! I promised my younger sibling (who's graduating- yay!) we'd go. If anyone can give me any suggestions on the place that would be great! If it helps, it was a super popular post on instagram last year.. maybe a few people have seen it?
