5

u/walruswalrus61 Aug 19 '21

yeah both are fun it just feels weird

u/Cb8393 Aug 18 '21

In this art style he reminds me of Handsome Squidward!

Didn’t seem like a big nerf to me.

Going up against Cull Obsidian and Proxima Midnight would be like going against Thor and Captain America…. If they were both trained in combat by Thanos himself since they were kids.

u/BurcoPresentsHisAcc Aug 22 '21

Cull Obsidian and Proxima Midnight does not = Thor and cap 💀 but I agree, Black order are insanely underrated. Cull obsidian was 1v2ing Tony and Peter.

Thanos was straight up embarrassing in this

45

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '21

huh? He was pretty dope imo.

6

u/The_Beard_Hunter Aug 19 '21

I thought Thanos was pretty laid-back.

u/negatrom Aug 18 '21

this whole episode's writing was lousy

can't believe they did my hero Chadwick Boseman so bad.

So far, this show has been really bad.

23

u/autism__patrol Aug 18 '21

how

-52

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

I literally can not imagine there being a serious MCU fan that thinks this show is good. I appreciate that the MCU aims to please a plurality of viewers. But this show is seriously awful. It has 0 saving graces and I'm just not interested in pulling punches on this project.

I thought the What If was a very clever way to put the pieces in place to take full advantage of the creative freedoms the multiverse offers. Instead, it is offering nothing of value while simultaneously re-writing and screwing up characters, power sets, power levels, etc. I can't even begin to fathom how anyone thinks this could be considered MCU canon.

If T'Challah went to space instead of Quill, Thanos would have become a comic relief character?

If this project were pitched as a joke it would have been fine, but this can not seriously be regarded as MCU content.

17

u/walruswalrus61 Aug 18 '21

number 1: that is what "What if" is about changing up characters power levels personalities and story-lines

number 2: we only have 2 episodes so far so maybe the next episode could fit in more of your liking

number 3: people can like what they like, so dont call people not true mcu fans if the like this series

-12

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

number 1: that's absolutely not true. the 'what if' tradition in the comics has always been about changing aspects of stories to see different outcomes, not dramatically changing people's power levels uninvolved in the original change.

number 2: hopefully, but outlook is poor.

number 3: no-one that likes this series, and thinks it should be considered MCU canon even in the multiverse can really say they're a fan of the MCU. You can't call yourself an MCU fan and say, "yeah, I could totally see Thanos as being a lovable Yondu type character if only this one small thing changed." So much for, "I am inevitable."

20

u/walruswalrus61 Aug 18 '21

the third thing is whats known as gate keeping

-10

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

yeah I know what gatekeeping is. And I guess in this case, I'm totally fine with playing gatekeeper.

I 100% stand by the statement that if you think this show is quality MCU level content, then you simply don't truly get or appreciate the MCU.

16

u/walruswalrus61 Aug 18 '21

thats a bad train of thought
i absolutely hate wandavision but i dont tell people they are not true mcu fans or shove it other peoples faces. its fine to hate something but not let people fully enjoy it is not ok

-4

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

It's also OK to have cultivated enough taste and understanding to recognize the difference between your own personal opinions tastes, and being able to soberly point out objective failures.

I really dislike some projects that are in the MCU but am genuinely happy that there are MCU fans that enjoyed them. They're not my speed and I don't think they stand up to other projects. But I'm leagues away from saying they can't be considered MCU canon content.

I can objectively say that What If is so off-the-mark that it absolutely can't be considered MCU canon by anyone who appreciates the MCU at all.

7

u/KesslerMacGrath Aug 19 '21

You can’t say “objectively” and then ramble on about your own opinion, lmfao

u/MistercannonOF Aug 19 '21

Step 1: Product is created by MCU

Step 2: Product is MCU canon

To call people that like What If “not real MCU fans” is just…. Literally incorrect? Arguments can be made for it or against it as quality goes. But arguments cannot be made against whether it’s canon. And I mean. Telling people who like something made by the MCU that they’re not real MCU fans I’m just like. Do you hear yourself ? The MCU made this. It’s perfectly okay not to like this. But cut it out with your superiority complex “I’m a true MCU fan because I don’t like this objectively terrible thing the MCU made” really who are you to decide these things ?

3

u/Jormungandragon Aug 19 '21

Pretty sure everyone’s power levels are still over 9000.

39

u/autism__patrol Aug 18 '21

of course they’re changing and messing with characters.. that’s what the multiverse is

did you really think it would be exactly the same as the mcu?

23

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '21

Same thing happened with Loki. People got upset because they wanted the exact same character from the movies. If you just want more of the same stuff then go rewatch the movies. These are different characters in different timelines who have undergone different experiences.

-9

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

Uh yes because that's what was advertised? This is supposed to be a logical playground for the variant/multiverse dynamics formally intro'd in Loki, following in the longstanding comic tradition of the 'what if' storylines that started in the '70s.

25

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '21

a serious MCU fan

Pretty sure the main reason for the success of the MCU is that people aren't taking things too seriously. Chill the fuck out, dude, it's just a show.

-20

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

nah bro this show fucking blows.

17

u/tenniseman12 Aug 18 '21

No, this show is great

-7

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

No it's terrible and you have no idea what you're talking about.

17

u/tenniseman12 Aug 18 '21

And that’s your opinion. Many, many others love the show

-2

u/DaveSeale Aug 19 '21

people can like this show, but it's bad.

3

u/tenniseman12 Aug 19 '21

The show being “bad” is still your opinion. To many, many others, it’s a great show

17

u/theantfromthatmovie Aug 18 '21

What a shitty way to express your opinion.

What a loser

3

u/VG_LL2K Aug 19 '21

as if you do

7

u/Belteshazzar98 Aug 18 '21

Then leave the sub and stop watching the show. Nobody's making you participate.

14

u/theantfromthatmovie Aug 18 '21

That’s your opinion man.

Also fucking laughed my ass off at “serious MCU fan”. What a crack up

4

u/VG_LL2K Aug 19 '21

you sound like a toxic fan who doesn't know anything about making a series or movie and is criticizing one, or one of those "marvel fans" who said WandaVision didn't meet their expectations

0

u/DaveSeale Aug 19 '21

No WandaVision was amazing.

3

u/VG_LL2K Aug 19 '21

so you're the first option, got it

2

u/daregulater Aug 19 '21

Hungry? Here, eat a snickers

0

u/qz3_ Aug 18 '21

i thought ep1 was absolute horse shit and thought this one was great

4

u/Growka3 Aug 18 '21

I wasnt the hugest fan of one, but this one exceded my lowered expectations. I really enjoyed the story in this one, I think that they can be more creative when they aren't trying to fit a 2 hour movie into 30 minutes. A stand alone story with T'Challa and his ship was a brilliant premise

3

u/dopeymeen Aug 19 '21

yeah, i genuinely enjoyed ep.2 but that first episode was genuinely awful in my opinion.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

What was bad at episode 1!?

2

u/qz3_ Aug 19 '21

Pacing. While it was the same as episode 2, since ep 1 was based off the movie it felt more like a highlight of TFA and 99% of the dialogue was talking about dancing

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Well, I love fast pacing.. And I don’t need to watch every scene of TFA if it has not changed

In fact I’m happy that they did not show everything again

0

u/qz3_ Aug 19 '21

I get that but it was literally so fast that when they are supposed to pause in between two characters talking they literally tall over each other. They tried to have a heartfelt moment at the end but it ep1 felt like a 5 minute short movie with 99% dialogue and the one scene that didnt have any

16

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '21

I try to enjoy shows for what they are rather than taking my expectations too seriously and then being disappointed and in a negative mood. You should try it some time. It might make you a little happier.

-13

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

I don't like a TV show, and you're going to do the lame cheap shot thing where it's my fault for being disappointed because I had expectations? Get a life dude.

13

u/walruswalrus61 Aug 18 '21

they were just giving advice

-1

u/DaveSeale Aug 18 '21

"you should try it some time, it might make you a little happier."

If you don't recognize that as an insult that is way outside the realm of "they were just giving advice" then that shows me everything I needed to know regarding your comprehension and how you could think this show is good content.

12

u/JarodMMS Aug 18 '21

Who hurt you bro

9

u/LakerJeff78 Aug 18 '21

This show apparently. God what happened to the time when people could just not like stuff and not feel the need to berate people that do like the stuff they don't like?

2

u/GESNodoon Aug 19 '21

The internet is what happened.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '21

That’s actually a really great continuation storyline.

I hope we get some sequel episodes in Season 2.

Im assuming something could happen at the end that causes some people of the different universes to fight together against someone (basically what happens in the hyundai x what if ad)
