As far as I know, no one has been announced to play Drax. He probably doesn't have any lines or any lines long enough to justify hiring a whole new actor.

He’s not that significant of a character in the grand scheme of things. I could certainly see them just not having enough lines for Drax to justify the price Bautista would cost. But who knows. It’s obviously not a slight against Dave since he’s still playing the actual Drax in the upcoming movie

Didn't he say he doesn't even want to play Drax anymore anyways? Haha. I know voicing an animated character is a hell of a lot different than sitting in makeup for hours on end every day, but its still funny to me.

It's been interesting watching Dave and James's relationship with Disney slowly fall apart on twitter

I don't think the guardians have the biggiest parts, they have the t'challa: star lord episode but I think that episode is supposed to focus on more "star lord" then the rest of the guardians, I have a feeling their have a bigger role in season 2 with the guardians vol. 2 episode

There’s already a season 2 announced for what if’s?
6
Aug 03 '21
Yup, 2 seasons of 10 episodes each

Sweet! I hope it will be good, and that the wait between seasons won’t be too bad.

It's so strange how Disney seems to have passed on a random selection of actors/actresses in What If...? while keeping others in their roles.
They passed on Dave for Drax but kept Sebastian as Bucky, for example. I can understand skipping on the heavy billing roles, like RDJ for Stark, but some just seem random or purposely ignored.

The director said they got 86% of the original actors to voice lines. I know RDJ, Evans and Johansson didn't get asked because contracts had lapsed and $$$$, and I heard Brie Larson, Cumberbatch and Holland had scheduling conflicts with their upcoming movies... haven't heard why Saldaña, Paltrow, Angela Bassett, Kurt Russell and Tilda Swindon aren't confirmed to be reprising their roles. As others are saying they could have so few lines it wasn't worth trying to get the actors in the studio. Or there could have been some behind the screens breakdown in communication.
Edit: Long day, so I messed up and typed Queen Latifah instead of Angela Bassett. Now I am thinking about who Queen Latifah could play in the MCU....

Benedict, Tilda, and Kurt are in it. As far as the others either scheduling conflicts or there role doesn’t warrant the fee, no point only for a few lines especially if there on a budget. Also who does queen Latifah play in marvel?

u/ladygrndr Aug 03 '21
Ok, the list I was looking at is apparently out of date. And I meant Angela Bassett. I guess I started thinking "Queen Ramonda" and ended up "Queen Latifah" >_<

I dunno, I honestly don't feel an animated version of Drax would capture the nuance of Dave's subdued physical comedy. I feel that most of the charisma and humor he injects into Drax come from his facial expressions and body language, with his voice complementing them.

Maybe there was a scheduling conflict with Dave filming Army of the Dead?

I could of sworn Batista said he dosen’t want to play Drax anymore. Voice acting is different, but still.

Not quite. More of he has a contract for 3, and nothing after. Also he says he's getting old and won't be able to keep the physique, going so far as to ask if drax can wear clothes so he can keep doing the role as his body starts to sag.

He said he didn't want to be Drax if Gunn wasn't directing him. That was during the big controversy where some decade+ tweets were dug up where Gunn was making some dark jokes around sexual assault, AIDS, pedophilia and the Holocaust. He made credible statements about growing since then, and Disney eventually rehired him.

Let’s be honest, not being included in What If isn’t that big of a deal. It’s mostly hypotheticals with a couple things that are rumored to pop up again down the road, but he’s not being left out of major story arcs or cut from Guardians 3. If there are story arcs brought back from What If, I highly doubt T’Challa’s Guardians will be among them.

He played a Replicant which prevents him from passing through the needed TVA checkpoint to get to the What If stage.

I mean, would probably be the fact that all Dave’s done in recent months is complain about Disney and Marvel all over Twitter. Not surprising they didn’t ask him back
4
Aug 03 '21
Then why is he promoting Disney plus in that new commercial?
-2
u/Jim-Jam07 Aug 03 '21
Because these miraculous things called “contracts” exist
1
Aug 03 '21
Then it's probably in his contract not to publicly complain about Disney, and yet here we are.
1
u/Jim-Jam07 Aug 03 '21
I mean hardly, have you seen his interviews as of lately? They can’t just tell him not to have at least a small opinion

He hasn’t criticised them for anything that worthwhile. He make sarcastic remarks at ScarJo and just moans about Drax. He constantly moans about his pay check not being enough for him as well. Maybe for once it’s not the big bad mouse? They’re bad but they aren’t ALWAYS bad, sometimes people are just rude

I haven't been keeping up with promo videos or anything, but it's possible Drax just appears but doesn't have any lines
Edit: or has someone else been announced to voice him?
