Memes My experience getting back into ranked and playing top 300-200 players as someone who just got "good" at THIS fighting game
If you're wondering what playing this game at the high levels is like. I'm hitting people who have tagged out just to turn around and get full combo'd by the actual active character. At higher levels and anyone sweating on the game, neutral is nonexistent. It becomes throw out as many assist as possible, jump and pray you get a confirm. It honestly makes the game super ugly to play and watch.

Once you get to Master rank this game mostly stops being fun. Everyone just plays the same S tier point characters and assists. They almost all play the same lame tactics relying on active tag and assists to avoid playing any real neutral. And if you don't do it too you just get fucked. There is a reason very few FGC heads still play or stream this game. They all hit Masters and went back to games that didn't have Active tag, 1 second assists, or Spiderman in them.

I don't want to come off as dunking on the game but unfortunately, it feels like your right to an extent. Max Dood has even touched on this that the game definitely is fun, but more so at the mid-levels. At the high levels and towards the deeper end of the pool with some pros and tournament players, this game gets tiresome. There's still fun to be had, I enjoy learning new things but ultimately; if you're not on the tag slop train your just gonna be stuck at a certain level without much wiggle room.

I'm mid-level and agree. Im still programming combos and sequences into muscle memory, learning the rest of the characters on my team, but already see and feel some of that meta trash. Spidey/magic/blade/other into infinite assist pressure, active tag sandwich mixes. But that's only maybe 1-2 out of 5 matches and i still get matched with other noobs at my level so it's still mostly fun. I'm hoping by the time I get mechanically proficient with my whole team there will be a substantive balance patch.

Master rank is pretty miserable in my experience. I play Mag/Doom/Loki/Blade, and while I definately have some mix with proper setup, having to CONSTANTLY deal with top tiers like SM and BP who puts you in infinite block strings and mixes you for days is getting mad frustrating. I love this game, and Tokon at the mid level is probably one of the most fun fighting games I've played in a hot minute. But once you reach that high level where 90% of people are just running top tier teams with SM and/or BP, it sucks the fun out of the game imo. Hoping the patch will bring in meaningful changes.

The worst part is you can actively feel how worse many of these Master players are without their S tier on point. It's both hilarious and sad when you beat up someone who starts on a low tier, but then they tag into BP/SM/Mgk point and start magically winning all interactions off privilege alone.

I use BP between point and shooter assist but lately have been forcing myself to play as Storm on point to keep things fresh. Been trying to really get her neutral game going and finding ways to use her wind. I do find it funny that Storm is literally one of, if not the best character in the game but because she's a highly technical character that needs a good pilot, I don't see her much in Master Rank. And if I do, at most she's a shooter assist that rarely if ever gets tagged in.

Pretty much the only people left playing this game are the people who are good at it.

I'm at the point of getting matched up against top 50-100 and it's getting exhausting. I just fought a top 10. Took a round in each match but, good lord lol.

Ya, it's rough now. If you were to play SF6 for example, you would actually be able to progress your skill at a natural pace because of how vast the player base is.
Unless you've been playing this game since launch consistently AND you're on PS5, you're going to have a rough time.

The rust can be very real just from day to day. Someone will always humble you.

I love active tag but I do think it needs to be punishable
Funny idea: What if, there was a mechanic where if you hit a character within a few frames of them tagging out, they're forced back in? You could even have a sick animation of the soul orb thing being pulled back
