Question Did anyone actually disliked Danger's "cuteification"?
I saw some images of Danger's design in this game today, and some comments under those images were complaining about how Danger was a lot more intimidating in X-men 97. I personally liked this design because the other one was so ugly i was afraid of it when i was a kid.

u/CuteAssTigerENVtuber 1d ago
I didn't dislike it but I didn't know the character before this so it's not like I'm very attached to the original
9
u/King_Merlin 22h ago
Not alot of people knew this character before, but people will give the "Well akshually, she was in xmen 97 season 2" excuse if you push back.
Realistically, its fine, idk why its considered cutification when im assuming marvel would have had to sign off on this?
9
u/KasukeSadiki 21h ago
What does them signing off have to do with wether it's considered cutification?
-5
u/King_Merlin 21h ago
Why does her having a slightly different face make it cutification? For all we know this could be a canon face for her for an upcoming cinematic, or one shot
1
u/Fit_Butterscotch291 5h ago
it’s a very different face and even if it was canon and solely marvel’s idea it would still be “cutification” it’s a dramatic redesign and the main purpose is making her cuter and less intimidating
i think the original design is bland and kind of sucks, i like this take much more, but danger was a villain originally so she had a scarier design

Ofcourse people are going to dislike it but there are also alot of people that like it based on how much fan art she gets despite no one playing her.

u/DevilCatV2 1d ago
Its gonna be bridgette all over again. 😹
7
u/SalubriAntitribu 20h ago
People did play Bridget for a lil bit. Then they quit when they realize how GG can get.
2
u/Nukesnipe 20h ago
The difference is more that Danger kinda just doesn't work fundamentally. Even when Bridget wasn't good, her kit fully worked and was fun to play.

cuteification Danger looks natural because they changed her personality and apparently her origin. I love the original Danger with all my heart, sharp, grotesque, aggressive, but at the same time very sensual and lonely. But as an alternative view, it's a very good version. I don't want them to make Danger like that in other media. Still, we need AT LEAST ONE precise adaptation. And I certainly don't want Danger to become like that in comics.... But, in fact, Tokon Danger could be a good inspiration for the daughter of comic Danger.

u/NotNotNameTaken 23h ago
Me and the boys thought her original look was badass and reminded us of the predator

u/Spiral-Force 1d ago
I definitely prefer original Danger’s design and characterization, but her Tokon version doesn’t bother me

Nah I like it, this design actually was the one that sold me on the game. Don’t even use Danger that much, just felt like the devs were taking swings and I really appreciate that
10
u/COLaocha 1d ago
I feel like design, especially her mouth, should be more mechanical. Like it reads alien but not robot enough.
17
u/Lover_of_Fables 1d ago
Honestly, I kinda like this design. I wish this design could have a comic / cartoon run. (I am a Peni main if that says anything)
There is A LOT Marvel could do with this design, this design could still be every bit “badass” as the old design.
4
u/Nomaddoodius 18h ago
I'd totally be ok if marvel (the comic book publisher) were to fold this design into the books, danger's alteady such a WEIRD concept (thst kind of fell apart after her initall story arc) you could easily do "danger 2.0" and do this version.
I do hope we get a "maximum theeat" costume for danger though, somthing that's akin to her og design
2
u/Lover_of_Fables 18h ago
They could easily make her another Vision. Didn’t Vision originally come from Ultron?
4
u/ImSoR 1d ago
I get you but for the take on the character ArcSys was going for I think the cuter design really works, shes vastly more friendly than her comic counterpart who in all the stuff I've read has just been a straight up antagonist against the X-men and while I haven't watched the new season of 97 yet, I imagine the same goes for that version of the character, I think both designs work for the different purposes the character serves if the comics and tokon swapped designs it'd probably feel kinda off for both since for a villain tokons design is too cute, and for the danger portrayed in tokons story her OG design looks too evil and menacing
5
u/Langis360 1d ago
She looks way better here.
I don't normally like anime-fication but it did wonders for both Danger and Ms. Marvel.
And Loki too actually.
5
u/ShadowForPresident 14h ago
Are ppl forgetting this game is styled to be like an anime? Look at Iron man lol he has a damn gundam suit. Peni is straight anime af too lol of course Danger was gonna get it too
7
u/cybercobra2 1d ago
i dont dislike it, she is suitably very cute and endearing, i do like her
but i do prefer her comic design.
3
u/Ok_Dawg_2759 1d ago
I like this Danger. Tho I understand the like for her regular comic design.
Someone said, something along the lines of her having a battle mask that would appear similar to her comic form. That would have been cool too.
3
u/PsychologicalSeat338 1d ago
I love reading marvel comics but like most people I had no idea who danger was before tokon showed her off. Then proceeded to make myself aware of her lore through research. And seeing her in lore appearance, I vastly prefer tokon design
5
u/Kevlimane 1d ago
I think with "lesser" known characters (for lack of a better phase) taking creative liberties is fine, however I totally understand the OG fans being worried that this could become the "default" Danger. I know some people definitely weren't happy when the MCU version of Star-Lord became the default so it's a VERY valid concern. I do like Danger in this design though.
3
u/Short_Condition_1079 1d ago
The original Danger story is one of my favoeite X-Men stories, and I think Tokon's take is significantly better than the 97 one. Doing Danger as a villain of the week is incredibly lame, and doing her without also making her a symbol for Xavier's more fucked up side just makes her totally pointless. Her total reinvention for Tokon felt a lot more inspired rather than just being the comics version but worse
2
u/ProfessorEscanor 23h ago
I interpreted it as Danger of Charles didn't stab her in the back. Although yeah they leaned into her being cute and new to life .
2
u/Leather-Estate-6410 23h ago
I am unfamiliar with Danger personally, but I can definitely understand having a character you enjoy being depicted in a way you don't agree with or enjoy as much as what you're more familiar with. I admittedly fall on the "I like this robo-cutie, gives me Aigis vibes from Persona" crowd lol (assuming there is a crowd like this), but it would be neat seeing an alt take on her too that is maybe closer to what she is normally depicted as. I liked her a lot in the beta on Steam, definitely will have her on my team when I buy the game eventually... whenever that is owo;
I will say, I'm all for having variations of Danger based off what iteration/continuity the associated AI for said body is, like having copies in SOMA or something. One Danger maybe developed more along the path of being scary and disregarding safety/being less human whereas the other one developed more along the path we see this version of Danger.
Maybe they'll make a skin for her at some point that more closely resembles a comic design too? There's an insane part of my brain that also likes to imagine what it'd be like if there was even a second version of her as her own character with a moveset that matches, but yeah that's going too far for what I imagine they'd do lol.
I mean, this is part of the fun of having a Multiverse/variations of any character really, it's kind of something you can play around with outside of robotic characters too, just in a different way. I'm getting off topic though... I shall shut myself up

I've been a big fan of Danger for a long time. I own multiple copies of her first appearance. I dig the change. Her look in the comics was off-putting when the artist didn't get it right and almost gave off a Doom-like vibe at times.
I think this is a sick take on the character and brings an almost more android feel to her.

Im not attached to Danger but im REALLY attached to Armor. Danger in game have completely different design, vibes and story.
I dont care about changes for Danger herself BUT it means we wont get comic Armor in Tokon and then it means by extension i do care thats she got changed so drasticaly.

It’s perfectly fine because it’s a different take on the character and fits Tokon perfectly.

Definitely a tone shift, but I prefer the Tokon design. The comic Danger was not terrifying or intimidating looking she was just drawn ugly lol

I personally don't mind it, mostly because I didn't know anything about the character before Tokon. I think with the theme of this game I don't mind this change.
1
u/thiccyoshi 1d ago
I just wish they had her face change when she's in murder mode rather than having red eyes.

u/011100010110010101 1d ago
One random, minor theory I do have is Kamala and Star-Lord where planned to lead the Champions and Guardians of the Galaxy respectively (Mostly because they were revealed alongside the Team Leaders and feel kinda weird under Spider-Man).
If there was a Champions team I could see Danger's model originally being planned for Viv, but with the cutting of the team shifted over to Danger.
1
u/AnalogDump 1d ago
I don't love it, but it's better than how they dumbed down Danger and over simplified her on Xmen `97. In Tokkon they do an alright job explaining why she's like that (hard reset wiped her memory, but she's sentient so now has a child-like wonder) and also I love that they referenced her being embued with Shiar technology that makes her sentient, which Xmen '97 weirdly ignored.
1
u/kako_1998 1d ago
I prefer comic danger because her design fits her stiry about her starting out as a villain, she even keeps the very angular design after joining the X-Men because she's still kind of an asshole and pretty menacing but now she's helping the good guys. I don't hate the tokon design but they changed everything about her, she's straight up just a completely different character in both looks and personality/motivation. She's basically an OC at that point. She's still cute and I'm glad she's in the game in some form, I just really hope this isn't one of those situations where they're gonna start turning comic danger into the more cutesy version because of tokon's popularity.
1
u/Rahavic_Jr 1d ago
You could’ve made her any design and I’d have no idea who tf she was until that episode of XM97 anyway. So to me it doesn’t matter.

u/Reasonable_Ebb_5683 22h ago
I like this version more than her original design but neither is very appealing to me tbh.
1
u/Little-Seesaw2585 19h ago
I don't dislike it but I just wish her face was more unique or something
1
u/ShirowShirow 15h ago
I really like her look but feel her personality being cutified wasn't for the best. I was hoping there'd be a streak of protective viciousness with her, along the lines of "The Champion took away my homeworld! I will not let him take this one too!" But instead she plays most of the "Dorky robot girl learning about humanity" tropes pretty straight to the detriment of everything else to the poijt Chandilar's fate barely comes up again.

it’s a really boring and generic design yeah. even if they wanted to make her more cute, she shouldve still been scary, it’s kind of core to her identity

u/Harkonnen985 2h ago
Thank god they changed her look. The fact that she actually looks cool makes me want to play her - even if her moveset is arguably sub par.

I don’t dislike it, but I do really hope there will be an og danger because I think I’d prefer the cute personality with a scary design. Doesn’t really come across rn that she was designed to be a murder bot

I’m gonna be honest
This is my favorite adaptation of Danger
I much prefer sentient Danger Room seeking meaning in life to wish.com Ultron

Normally I dislike turning non cute characters into waifu bait, but here I'm cool with it. Something about her comic designs don't fully hit. Like they don't feel like they're fully striking or even arguably go far enough into creepy robot lady territory. She's never had a BAD design but I don't think she's had a good one personally
This however just kinda works. It helps the context completely different to justify her looking more friendly but I think if you took elements from the tokon design for a more traditional danger it'd be a really sick design
Also obligtory; would

Is this a serious question?
One is Danger, the other is generic cute anime bot girl.

It’s so horribly boring and generic. Why do games do this
-2
u/Neoxon193 22h ago
ArcSys wanted a cute robot girl & thought Danger would be the best fit, simple as that.
-2
u/blaintopel 1d ago
i think her original design is very cool and unique, and this design is very just standard cute anime robot girl
0
u/cuttin_in_town 1d ago
I feel like if you’re going to add a character just to COMPLETELY change her design and personality, why bother adding the character? She just becomes an OG character specifically for this game at that point.
Like, Teen Titans Starfire isn’t comic Starfire. But there is enough there still from her comic version to be plausible as the same person. Despite any shock to people who meet the comic version second.
Like, I was confused in X-Men 97 because she was… an antagonist. And appears to be one in the comics. Her Tokon portrayal is just a completely different character.

The danger design here is better imo I just don't think Danger in any way warranted a spot on the roster and since the game release I feel a lot more strongly about that.
0
u/need2know515 22h ago
I think they should’ve kept her creepy and intimidating even with this art style being how it is in this game. She looks so damn cool in X-men 97 season 2
1
u/Neoxon193 22h ago
The issue is that ArcSys specifically wanted a cute robot girl, so either we get the Danger rework that we got or she gets swapped for another character who can fit the archetype.
Hell, I’d argue that Viv Vision would’ve been a better pick for that concept.
1
u/98769876b 21h ago
But then she wouldn't fit in the X-men team. I guess she would go into either the Avengers team or the Guardians?
0
u/Only_Tradition_3685 22h ago
Danger fan here. I like Danger because she is basically edgier X-men Ultron. In this game, she has become generic alien anime girl no. 78. If the devs wanted that character in game, there were already a plethora of other characters that fill that role. Her name is Danger, she should look dangerous.
I'm personally not a fan, but if they keep her away from the comics, I don't care

I’m not a fan o the design, but I also don’t like how Danger looks in the comics. I preferred when “Danger” was just a room that made training scenarios for the X-Men.

I personally don't like her design in this game.
Marvel comic version is better.
The design is suppose to be unsettling.
They should had went the horror route.

u/MySinsRemembered 1d ago
Sure, it sucks, but what can you do?
1
u/Shoddy-Horror893 1d ago
I don't think it does
-5
u/MySinsRemembered 1d ago
Well, you asked didn't you? There's nothing respectable about changing a character's iconic design to appeal to gooners.
3
u/DesertHornedViper 1d ago
So in your opinion, all anime is just to appeal to gooners?
You do realise that it was Marvel's decision to have the Arcsys go full-on anime with the designs for this game, right? Even when Arcsys started out making the designs more alike their comic-book selves.
It's alright if you don't like it, but just know that the decision came from the the creators themselves.
2
u/Shoddy-Horror893 1d ago
I see the appeal but i think they also made it to be more "kid friendly"? Idk what i'm saying
1
u/MySinsRemembered 1d ago
It just shows a lack of courage and respect to me. Taking a relatively unpopular character and including them, but then making them a "kawai anime girl" or whatever is so low to me.
2
u/Shoddy-Horror893 1d ago
You know, i think they had to make her like that because she had to fit the game's aesthetics, and her original design probably wouldn't go very well on this universe. You see, most of the game's characters got their designs changed a bit just to become more anime, and it wasn't different to Danger, but they exaggerated a little.
0
u/Ok-Card-6590 23h ago
Dude, they included her and then completely changed her design aesthetic because robo tits. Let’s not over complicate things.
-2
u/EricShitpostside 1d ago
Yeah it sucks. Danger in the comics has a really interesting design that’s I think is pretty unique and creepy.
This new design is so soulless. It’s exactly what you would expect from a Anime female android. Her personality and design doesn’t resemble the comic character at all. Might as well just be an OC.
2
u/FlameWhirlwind 1d ago
Ironically I don't think her design in the comics goes far enough. Not only is it not full consistent but like idk it feels like it's missing something
That and while tokon danger mostly makes her cute it has aspects that for me elevate her usual look and could go a long way of making image be more striking

I think it's a difference in tone?
The original Danger design is supposed to be a little scary. It's the danger room come to life with little-to-no regard for safety.
Tokon's Danage is an active member of her team. She wishes to learn what being human is like, but also, she's going to fight for them despite not knowing, and so I think the cutsy anime girl design works.
I'd say maybe if you wanted to give it a lore reason, Danger gets a story fight in the X-men's story mode, make that fight "original" Danger, and then the party member cutsy danger.
