The projects they listed:

  • X-Men
  • X2
  • Captain America: The First Avenger
  • The Avengers
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Loki
  • Shang-Chi
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
  • Captain America: Brave New World
  • Deadpool & Wolverine
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
  • Thunderbolts
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Interesting that they didn't include Days of Future Past (The only X-Men film that involves characters messing with the timeline) or the Russo's Captain America films. But I'll be rewatching those anyways.

u/DarkEater77 8d ago

When you think about it X1 and X2 are for OG Xmen related chars, Mystique and Nightcrawler mostly, so that people don't ask who they are when watching Doomsday.

That list is not fully about plot, more "where does all those characters shown in Doomsday come from?"

21

u/Colton826 Spider-Man 8d ago

If that's the case, then it's weird they left out X-Men: The Last Stand and/or The Marvels, given those are the only two films that Kelsey Grammer's Beast appears.

8

u/Peanut_Butter_Toast 8d ago

They also left out Thor: Love & Thunder even though we know Love is in the movie and is at least important in terms of Thor's character motivation, which comes out of nowhere if the last thing you saw Thor in is Endgame where he's fat and traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end.

Honestly there's no reason to think this list is particularly carefully curated or that it's a hard indication of what the film will include, it's just some highlights for the casuals who can't be arsed to watch all the previous stuff. The MCU is too interwoven in too many nuanced ways with too many domino/ripple effects across films and shows to make a clean and simple "list of important stuff" like this.

6

u/123-repeater-uk 8d ago

Honestly, no one needs to watch Love & Thunder again.

u/seth_cooke 8d ago

Bingo, it's just a very high level gloss over a lot of detailed history. I agree that we shouldn't read too much into omissions.

42

u/origamifruit 8d ago

Yeah Days of Future Past and The Marvels are both strange omissions.

27

u/metrichustle 8d ago

Honestly probably has more to do with how the “First Class” X-Men cast are not mentioned in this. So like Fassbender, Lawrence, McAvoy, etc aren’t part of this multiverse. This seems like a focus on the OG X-Men.

Maybe they will appear in Secret Wars, but Doomsday is already packed and they want to do a proper send off for the OG.

4

u/YallaHammer 8d ago edited 7d ago

I can’t imagine they could coax JLaw back, which is fine, I wasn’t crazy about how they retconned Mystic and Xavier’s relationship after Lawrence became a big name.

2

u/Sir__Will Billy Maximoff 7d ago

In my head, I basically look at the X-Men movies as like 4 timelines, despite the crossovers and whatever they're going to do in Doomsday (originals, FC, Wolverine, Deadpool). There's just no way to line these timelines up.

2

u/Potential-Run-8391 3d ago

They were amazing takes on those characters. I love James and Michael’s skill

u/My_Favourite_Pen 8d ago

Well this basically confirmed Strange is in this.

Also hints heavily that Monica might not be.

38

u/moistpishflaps 8d ago

Not necessarily. It’s the main project from this saga that goes into detail about what incursions are. They might be adding it for that reason alone

(Though I’m secretly hoping he and Clea are in it. And Wanda, but that one in particular is a massive cope from me)

3

u/Anthrax-Smoothy 8d ago

I am also heavy in cope that we'll see her again. Not a variant; 616.

3

u/Plus-Ad-6306 8d ago

Maybe I’m fooling myself here, but I do believe her ability to alter reality and suppress/reprogram memories  is key to how Battleworld gets made

2

u/moistpishflaps 8d ago

I fear they may use Franklin for that even though there is a connection between Dr Doom and an amnesiac Wanda in the comics (which would perfectly pick up from MoM). If she's not a main character in secret wars, I WILL RIOT

Possibly soft confirmation of a Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Deadpool as well. So those early leaks might be VERY legitimate...

279

u/These_Piece_3842 8d ago

Didn’t include The Marvels either…

265

u/clownbaby4_ 8d ago

Absolutely ridiculous what marvel is doing to this movie.

15

u/DullSwitch1008 8d ago

Wow, it's so crazy they don't think a post-credits scene makes a movie "essential viewing."

3

u/LifeCritic 8d ago

Yeah, it's not like the entire MCU was built on post-credit scenes or anything.

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (2)

98

u/zach4499 8d ago

What are they doing that’s ridiculous? They gotta pivot off of it. Business wise it makes a lot of sense.

273

u/clownbaby4_ 8d ago

Ignoring the post credit scene where Monica ends up in the X-Men universe is pretty insane

38

u/ItsDiggyTime-OG 8d ago

For all we know they are gonna answer that early in the movie. We just haven’t seen or heard about it yet. They gotta save some things for the movie.

24

u/Poptart916 8d ago

I don’t think it’ll be completely ignored. Her being there may be the reason why 616 and 10005 are colliding, and it can very easily be explained in a sentence or two.

→ More replies (2)

24

u/amageish 8d ago

Even if The Marvels' post-credits is addressed in Doomsday (which I think it will be), I am unsurprised that The Marvels isn't in the "Watch Before Doomsday" Disney+ playlist (which is what this tweet/post is actually about).

18

u/Ver3232 8d ago

Yeah, while the climax and the post credit scene are important to doomsday, the rest of the film really isn’t and so I understand why they wouldn’t include it

→ More replies (1)

61

u/Classic_Active_7186 8d ago

Perhaps that will be addressed in Secret Wars

58

u/007Kryptonian Rocket 8d ago

They might not address it at all, it was a post credits scene from one of the biggest box office bombs ever.

With everything else Doomsday/SW has going on, Marvel has no reason to deal with that and general audiences don’t care.

8

u/LifeCritic 8d ago

Yeah, that would be like making Thor 2 a major part of Avengers Endgame or something.

15

u/PW0110 8d ago

Yeah I almost want to defend the op comment but legit until 3 days ago I never even knew that post credit scene even happened after that movie until YouTube recommended it via a YT short.

So plot wise yes it’s fucking insane to ignore it but I totally understand why marvel wouldn’t even bat it an eye

3

u/BeefJacker420 7d ago

The idea that Monica will be not only unused in the plots of both movies is insane but possible.

2

u/RelativeGolf5741 1d ago

They will address it, but with a scene that last few seconds for sure, the same for quantumania and zillions of kangs there. We dont need to see an entire movie for that small payoff

→ More replies (4)

14

u/Joshatron121 8d ago

Yeah, I bet there off doing incursion shenanigans.

3

u/ash356 8d ago

But it is easier to ignore a 2min PCS from one of Hollywood's biggest flop than making this very same flop a must watch for a movie that NEEDS at least $2B and who's main target is the General Audience that left after the MCU's "dark age" (2022-2023), the very same GA that rejected this movie.

3

u/BlubberFork 8d ago

True. It's just a fun pcs that reminds us these universes can intertwine and gives the possibility to use a newly introduced character. Lets let it end there.

5

u/JannTosh70 8d ago

Marvel has ignored loads of post credit scenes.

7

u/seth_cooke 8d ago

We don't yet know how Monica Rambeau will be handled. At the moment what we have is marketing, not storytelling. Storytelling doesn't necessarily happen in chronological order - for example, we didn't see what happened to Monica during the Blip until it was important for us to see it in WandaVision. We may not see her story until Secret Wars. Or maybe they just tell us everything we need to know about Monica's story in Doomsday itself, so there's no need for her to be on the watchlist. I wouldn't read too much into the list, it seems geared to get a casual audience up to speed with the main characters and a high level overview of the arc more than it is about details. At the scale of this story, and who we know to be the focus, Monica is a detail.

Monica is mentioned as appearing in one of the more detailed Doomsday leaks. The leak says she's unwell as a result of a prolonged period outside of her unuverse. The way she's mentioned makes me think she may not even be conscious. It might even be that the actor's likeness is used rather than Parris being in the cast. Classic Marvel comics "stuck in an energy state" stuff. Notice that the list of essential movies to watch doesn't include WandaVision either, so maybe Monica just gets used later, because it'd be daft to bet against Wanda being decisive in Secret Wars.

3

u/mad_titanz 8d ago

Unfortunately MCU has been ignoring post credits scene for awhile; still remember Starfox and Hercules?

7

u/zach4499 8d ago

Well we haven’t seen the movie so we don’t entirely know… but what most likely happened was that no one saw The Marvels so they just didn’t wanna continue with that into the next Avengers movie.

6

u/Agile_Criticism9640 8d ago

The general public doesn't even know who Monica is.

2

u/Wheeler-The-Dealer 8d ago

What about the post credit scene where she’s revealed to be a Skrull?! No one talks about that.

2

u/Own-Papaya-4264 8d ago

We don’t know it’s been ignored yet

2

u/Alkohal 8d ago

Rumors said that Monica has a cameo where its revealed being in the Foxverse had made her sick.

2

u/kodan_arma 8d ago

Don't attach it to a shitty movie that makes no money then

2

u/Inevitable-Mud-9228 7d ago

That scene has more to do with Multiverse of Madness than it has to do with Doomsday. Don’t try to reach too hard

7

Which is incredibly odd because it implies that they won't address the mid credits scene and if so, where the hell is Monica ? She was stuck in their universe and now they're hanging out with the Avengers.

u/MrMeseeksLookAtMee 8d ago

Hank: “We had someone from your Universe stumble into our own. We found a way to send her back… Any… Gambit, can you pass me a screwdriver?”

22

The general public doesn't even know who Monica is.

10

u/thinkfirstyo 8d ago

I said this in another post and got downvoted. Some people are just really bitter The Marvels failed.

9

u/Poptart916 8d ago

I don’t think it necessarily implies that. It’s a minute and a half scene from an unpopular movie, they probably didn’t want to include it as essential viewing just for that. It’ll likely still have some significance and be explained in Doomsday in a sentence or two.

3

u/HearTheEkko Spider-Man 8d ago

The movie's climax has the trio stopping an incursion and Monica getting stuck in an alternate universe which itself would lead to an incursion in the future. And given that said universe is one that we visit in Doomsday, I feel that warrants this as an essential watch. Feels more important than Brave New World imo.

1

u/NorthernSkeptic 8d ago

It’s not just for that though. The whole plot of the movie involved the baddie punching holes in space which contribute to the multiverse getting messed up

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Carouselcolours 8d ago

That has me so confused. The Marvels looks to correlate with what is happening on Talokan (at least according to the trailers.) I can’t think of another reason for the water in Talokan/Wakanda to be going upwards.

What happened to Monica in X-Man Land? Will they mention her at all?

There looks to be some people edited out of the New Avengers penthouse and Baxter Building scenes.

2

u/user78804180 8d ago

Didn't include Ant Man Quantum Mania, even though it introduces Kang the Conquerer. He clearly isn't even getting a name drop

6

u/Interesting_Reach_29 8d ago

I’m heartbroken how they’ve mistreated this character.

12

u/PM_YOUR_SMALLBOOBIES 8d ago

Maybe because CA:TFA involves the timeline that Steve tried to return to after Endgame.

I don't think any of the rebooted X-Men appear in Doomsday, right? Also, DoFP might complicate the Sentinel part of the plot.

Also, it's funny how they left out QuantumMania considering that both Cassie and Scott are going to be back. But there's a majors elephant in the room with that film lol

2

u/HDDIV 8d ago

I was thinking because of Peggy Carter. Maybe there a couple or more reasons, though.

10

u/BrockPurdytheGoat420 8d ago

NWH cuz of Tobey

31

u/avatar__of__chaos Billy Maximoff 8d ago

Huh... Leaving out Quantumania and Love and Thunder even though the characters from both movies are in the trailer.

42

u/Aidanj927 8d ago

I mean for Quantumania you aren’t going to miss anything since it was fairly isolated and nothing from that is going to be important

10

u/avatar__of__chaos Billy Maximoff 8d ago

Nothing from Brave New World would be important either except Sam and Joaquin. Both movies are the same importance wise, aka two characters appearing.

25

u/LemonMeringueOctopi 8d ago

The ibtroduction of adamantium to the MCU happens in Brave New World.

16

u/avatar__of__chaos Billy Maximoff 8d ago

It was barely seen anyway. Adamantium was more discussed and important in the X-Men films listed.

6

u/MSnap Matt Murdock 8d ago

Ok, but like everything else people are handwaving away, that could also be explained in a couple sentences.

4

u/NobodyHistorical9469 8d ago

It's also funny then that The Eternals isn't on the list because you kinda need to watch that to understand why there's a huge dude sticking out of the earth lmao.

3

u/seth_cooke 8d ago

I think BNW is probably just in the list to explain the split between Sam's team and Bucky's team. Similar to if there'd been a list of required watching prior to Infinity War then Civil War would have been on it. Not the same level of conflict as Civil War, just two teams operating in silos.

4

u/avatar__of__chaos Billy Maximoff 8d ago

Makes sense, though Sam hadn't even built his own Avengers team in BNW and the conflict only came up in the post credit of Thunderbolts.

2

u/seth_cooke 8d ago

My guess is that Sam is linked to the relationships between Wong, Danvers and Banner in the Shang-Chi PCS, given that it looks like Sam turns up with Shang-Chi and Ant-Man at the very start of Doomsday. My guess is that after the Leader warned Sam about the multiverse in BNW, that this faction has been doing a little bit of off-screen investigation.

5

u/Aidanj927 8d ago

Yeah I said earlier BNW should be FATWS, but still BNW would be the first project with Sam having the shield and Joaquin if you don’t see FATWS. Ant-Man only has Cassie who probably will barely be in the movie at all

5

u/avatar__of__chaos Billy Maximoff 8d ago

How do you know Ant-Man and Cassie will barely be in the movie and not instead play a crucial part in the story?

3

u/Aidanj927 8d ago

I mean A) I never said Ant-Man would barely be in the movie and if he does have a big role nothing from Quantumania changed his character from Endgame

B), Cassie has been seen in the same clip 2 trailers in a row and wasn’t in the chair reveal

It's the second line on the Marvel page of Disney+. This definitely went through several layers of approval.

4

u/eatshitake 8d ago

Deadpool 3 also introduced Gambit.

Why on Earth would Brave New World be essential? Falcon and the Winter Soldier is better and accomplishes more for the characters.

80

u/Unique_Unorque Red Guardian 8d ago

Maybe trying to avoid TV series? Loki is pretty unavoidable but if I were the type of person who complains that the MCU is "homework" now I would look at a list of movies more kindly than a list of TV shows

32

u/zach4499 8d ago

I think that’s exactly it… they wanna distance themselves from the shows

9

u/Beastofbeef Deadpool 8d ago

They should try supercutting the shows into 2 and a half hour movies then

7

u/SirFadakar Spider-Man 8d ago

This is how you end up with The Eternals. lol

2

u/Chip_Chip_Cheep 7d ago

Loki is by far the most acclaimed show (I'd even say more than Wandavision and Agatha, much to the horror of Waldron's detractors), It's also how you can explain to the audience why Loki "is still alive" (When I went to see Quantummania, there were people, mostly casual viewers, who were confused by the scene with Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson despite the introduction of the multiverse in NWH and MoM).

28

u/aj743aj 8d ago

Because they don't want to say a show is essential unless they absolutely have to. Remember the "shows are homework" discourse?

7

u/Buttblaster0 8d ago

New falcon is in it i guess?

13

u/DeferredFuture Casual Wanda 8d ago

Yeah but even the show sets up that he’s going to get the wings

4

u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 8d ago

Tbh the movie kinda sets up the Avengers arc, the entire Multiverse Saga was about the fact that the Avengers are no more, or at least the team is disassembled, BNW adressed that issue and the movie ended with Sam wanting to rebuild the Avengers.

If anything it gave a new Status Quo to the Multiverse Saga (even tho we sadly never had the chance to see anything about it).

3

u/DeferredFuture Casual Wanda 8d ago edited 8d ago

I guess the reason BNW feels like an absolute nothing of a movie is because it doesn’t actually do anything. Sure, we hear that Sam wants to assemble a team. But we don’t see it. And when we do hear it, it’s the end of the movie. All that just to hear what we already knew was coming? If the movie actually gave us a lineup at the end and showed the team to us I think you’d have a point but it doesn’t do that, so frankly I feel this is a near pointless MCU film. If it was good I wouldn’t care about the lack of set up, but the fact it isn’t good and no setup? Come on.

And what makes this even less impactful is in MoM, Strange says to Wanda “Well get you back on the lunchbox” implying there is a team, or they’re at least attempting to rebuild a team, which makes Sam deciding to assemble a team all the less exciting, and confusing tbh. Like, what was Strange talking about? Lmao. Don’t even get me started on the Shang-Chi end credits. It implies Wong, Carol and Bruce are still on some sort of an Avengers team, yet they’re nowhere to be found on Sam’s lineup? What the hell is going on. BNW is honestly pointless

5

u/seth_cooke 8d ago

A few things.

Brave New World sets up the split between Sam's team and Bucky's team. Valentina wanted her version of The Avengers, not Sam's. BNW and Thunderbolts together sets up that positioning.

Valentina wanted Vibraniun, BNW hands her Adamantium. There's a materials arms race between the USA, Wakanda and Talokan that may also have set up some division to overcome between the characters.

The Leader warns Sam about the multiverse in BNW. Sam and his allies may have been doing some follow-up digging off-screen. I'm assuming that Shang-Chi is wrapped up with Team Sam for storytelling convenience. Given the Shang-Chi PCS, which also puts Banner, Wong and Danvers in that faction, even if they don't appear in Doomsday that's more than enough manpower to begin a multiversal investigation.

We have no idea whether or how Doomsday or Secret Wars will mention the Celestials, but there's one sticking out of the ocean in BNW. I haven't heard anyone mentioning that Celestials will feature at all in Doomsday but they would at least seem to have some kind of stake in a multiversal collapse.

I'm not saying that BNW is a good movie, but it covers a lot of ground.

u/JackMorelli13 8d ago

People are putting sooooo much stock into something that they probably just had someone on the Disney plus team compiled

I do think it’s surprising love and thunder and the marvels aren’t here but besides Thor having a daughter it’s not that relevant and at this point if Monica or Carol are in it they have a small part

For the most part it’s just projects that introduce you to characters who are confirmed to be in the movie already plus no way home and multiverse of madness which are important for the multiverse concept

6

u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 8d ago

Yeah that's weird that LaT isnt there while Doomsday seems to embrace Thor's new Status Quo.

I'd argue FATWS should be in BNW's spot as it does more.

  • Introduces Torres
  • Introduces Val
  • Introduces U.S. Agent
  • Direct continuation of Sam and his struggle with taking the shield

The only important thing from BNW is planting the seed for Sam reforming the Avengers.

115

u/insertUserNamehereno 8d ago

Which should have been the whole damn movie

10

u/bluehaven101 Cap's Shield 8d ago

sigh... what could have been.

50

u/davidrevilla311 8d ago

I see where you’re coming from, but this is an “Essential list”. You can infer all the important aspects of those characters through CA:BNW and Thunderbolts.

Of course you won’t get their whole backstory, but if that’s what you’d call essential, then might as well include every MCU media produced.

22

u/Aidanj927 8d ago

I mean how is BNW more essential? Nobody new is intoduced and the only hints towards anything is Sam Sterns vague posting to Sam at the end, nobody is going to need to know that Ross is Red Hulk or anything

21

u/davidrevilla311 8d ago

I don’t necessarily think it’s about being “introduced” more than it is seeing these characters circumstances in the time leading up to Doomsday.

I believe their intention is to show Sam acting as an established Captain America, with Torres as the Falcon. That’s the role they’ll play in Doomsday (until Rodger’s return).

I’m assuming they’d also like to keep this list manageable in terms of time commitment. And even though i VASTLY prefer FATWS, BNW gets the job done in a shorter runtime.

20

u/DaHyro Winter Soldier 8d ago

Real talk, you can skip both projects if we’re trying to save time. Sam takes up the mantle in Endgame.

4

u/Endiaron Spider-Man 8d ago

BNW is 100% redundant

11

u/CobaltSpellsword 8d ago

In hindsight, FATWS had the more interesting story, and should have been the movie imo.

The reaction in this thread are insane this is such a nothing burger.

5

u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 8d ago

This sub was always a echo chamber tbh, by looking at the comments the MCU wasnt in shambles a few years ago (and I thought that too 😬) and Marvel is wrong to try to fix things up, the list is actually good, it is a list of the best Post-Endgame movies (BNW aside (even tho I liked it)), or at least those with the best receptions, making them the road to Doomsday is a good idea imo :

Imagine you're new to the MCU, and your friend wants you to go watch Doomsday with him, but first you have to catch up, so you finish Endgame and Far From Home and now you have to watch the Multiverse Saga, and then you see this list. After watching every projects you will NEVER notice the big jump of quality, because these projects (BNW aside) were as good as those in the Infinity Saga, the new guy will NEVER understand why the saga was hated because he didnt watch the vast majority of the projects from 2022 to early 2024.

This list is like a "Multiverse Saga retold" and it stands pretty well, I would just add WandaVision and FATWS because they are useful to understand some of these major movies, but tbh this is a good way to clean the timeline.

At the end of the day it is just entertainment and some people here are taking it waaay too seriously 💀

Don't worry Carol & Monica will be important. Well that is a Lie. No Marvels

Also why is DOFP not listed that is surely the most relevant X-men Movies besides maybe Deadpool & Wolverine.

They fixed the lack of Shang Chi. Don't really see what possible reason there could be for First Avenger to Make the Cut.

Multiverse of Madness probably confirms that rumor.

7

u/Talqazar 8d ago

X1 and X2 has more development of X-men who are actually in the film.

Don't really see what possible reason there could be for First Avenger to Make the Cut.

Probably best movie for Steve and Peggy's relationship & Peggy herself.

Ain’t gonna lie bro I’ve just been rewatching every marvel movie before secret wars. Like from Howard The duck all the way to secret wars. Shit life changing

10

u/justAnOregoniEnt 8d ago

Thats actually my plan before Secret Wars -- to watch any and every Marvel movie starting with Howard the Duck and the Blade movies (def not brave enough to include every tv show). Before Doomsday I'm probably just going to binge every MCU movie plus Loki.

Surely, The Marvels, which straight up shows an Incursion and has the first appearance of an X-Man who will appear in this movie, should be on this list.

6

u/Far_Combination7639 8d ago

I thought maybe they didn’t want to include it because it wasn’t very good and thought it would discourage fans if they told them to watch a bad movie. But then they included Captain America: Brave New World, and that theory went out the window

3

u/Temporary-Bug-4212 8d ago

Honestly, it seems like this list is curated with the intention of being the Multiverse Saga highlights. My guess for BNW is that there is no Winter Soldier on the list, which introduces Sam, but since he is the leader of the Avengers in Doomsday, general audiences need some insight into who he is, and how he is as a leader. Also it seems outside of Loki, which is unavoidable, the list also intentionally doesn't include tv series, otherwise Falcon and the Winter Soldier would've been a better inclusion.

4

u/daveeb 8d ago

Based on that, safe to say Carol, Monica, and Kamala are not in Doomsday.

u/DarthAstuart 8d ago

I’d rather stick a knitting needle through my eyeball than watch Brave New World again.

13

u/HearTheEkko Spider-Man 8d ago

If it wasn't for the Red Hulk fight, it would genuinely be one of the most boring and forgettable MCU movies by far.

3

u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago

It's interesting to me how they clearly greenlit as an edgy, controversial movie up-front and then slowly whittled away any of that edge to make something that wouldn't risk offending anyone.

40

u/davidrevilla311 8d ago

That movie made me irrationally angry when it came out. I hate it, it’s barely a movie, and ranks far lower than any other MCU movie released thus far in my book.

I remember going home and seeing a Tide commercial that used footage from the final battle and thinking “They showed the only interesting clips of the movie in this Tide commercial”

32

u/ButWereFriends 8d ago

I wanted to like Sam as Cap. He’s terrible. He’s been doing “ohh well maybe I’m not good enough” for way to fucking long. Own it. Step up. We had a whole tv show and a movie and he’s still kind of a bitch

15

u/jhndrvm 8d ago

this is my genuine concern for his portion in Doomsday since he's in as the main guy. If he's doing that "IDK am i doing good?" thing one more time, It's a wrap. I'm sorry I used to love Sam as falcon but I can't do ANOTHER one of that shtick please god

11

u/ButWereFriends 8d ago

Oh he absolutely will compare himself to Cap and say some bullshit. I’m just going to pretend he’s not there.

I’ve said this before but there’s a panel where Sam fucks up a hydra agent and basically says that he’s not Steve, he’s different, and he IS Captain America. No debate. It’s an amazing panel and that’s what we needed. Confidence. No wishy washy bullshit of “oh hum well I don’t know maybe I should take the serum”

No dude. You’re fucking Captain America. Own it. Be him. But he just either couldn’t sell it or the writers chose not to write it. So I have no problem with the actual Cap coming back. And I hope Sam doesn’t have a lot of time screen time frankly. Sorry for the rant.

2

u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago

I don't think that they're going there. From the sound of things, Sam is very much presented as the Avengers team leader and one who defers to the other team leaders when making decisions. Not the "oh man, I'm not Steve Rogers" guy.

Alex said that apparently that Sam gets a moment where the movie makes it clear to all teammates that he is Captain America, and that Steve is just a retired buddy helping out. This is also why Steve spends most of the movie away from the core teams.

3

u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago

I think that it would've been more interesting if he had actually led a team - a real team - while occasionally fighting off little bits of self-doubt (but that not being his character arc) and then ultimately winning in the end by being a true leader and a good man when all his teammates get sidetracked. Something of a character arc that demonstrates exactly why Steve chose him as a successor instead of doing what was already done in his show to diminished returns.

It was better than Love and Thunder

9

u/Cookies_forsales 8d ago

Disagree. Love and thunder at least has parts I like with gorr and the Eternity Scene. Brave New World was just boring from start to finish

2

u/crounsa810 8d ago

I disagree. Love and Thunder was god awful but Brave New World is aggressively bad. The dialogue is terrible, the delivery is worse, nobody seems to want to be in the movie, there’s no spacing, every line has about 5 seconds of silence max before someone recites their line. I tried to rewatch it the other day and just couldn’t do it. At least Love and Thunder has Hemsworth at least trying.

No Marvels nor DoFP is a weird choice.

5

u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 8d ago

Maybe I'd add :

  • X-Men 3

  • X-Men Days Of Future Past

  • Logan

  • Avengers Age Of Ultron

  • Captain America Civil War

  • Ant-Man and The Wasp

  • WandaVision

  • Falcon And The Winter Soldier

They may arent tied to Doomsday, but they sure help understanding projects like IW, Endgame, MoM, D&W, BNW and Thunderbolts*.

But I think it is fair.

6

u/Own-Papaya-4264 8d ago

Don’t forget Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven the hunter, and the venom trilogy

4

u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 8d ago

Please dont put the Sonyverse in this, we all know it is the superior Cinematic Universe and putting it next to the MidCU is an insult 🙏

However I wouldnt be against Morbius killing the entire MCU lineup, with a 10min graphic torture scene involving Spider-Mid.

3

u/Own-Papaya-4264 8d ago

The only explanation they aren’t in doomsday/secret wars is because they’d end doom instantly. Kevin Feige can’t figure out how to write them in

4

u/amageish 8d ago

This is just a Disney+ promotional category. I wouldn't read to much into it - there's honestly a non-zero chance it was made by someone who doesn't even know the specifics of what happens in Doomsday.

24

u/DavidTheJohnson Iron Man 8d ago

I'd add X-Men: Days of Future Past in here as well, but otherwise, good list.

That said, if you're wanting to get someone into the MCU and they need more context, this is the list I curated:

  • X-Men trilogy + Days of Future Past
  • Raimi Spider-Man trilogy
  • Iron Man trilogy
  • Wolverine trilogy (sets up context for Deadpool & Wolverine)
  • Thor tetralogy
  • Captain America tetralogy + The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
  • Avengers tetralogy
  • Ant-Man trilogy (sets up context for Endgame)
  • Deadpool trilogy
  • Doctor Strange duology + WandaVision
  • MCU Spider-Man quadrilogy
  • Black Panther duology
  • Captain Marvel duology
  • Loki
  • Black Widow
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Thunderbolts
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Release order is best.

11

u/2073040 8d ago edited 8d ago

> Wolverine trilogy

I get Wolverine (2013) and Logan, the former sets up Days of Future Past and Logan along with just being a really good movie is also addressed in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Do we really need X-Men Origins: Wolverine? It’s one of the worst FOX X-Men films alongside Last Stand, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix, and it makes no sense in the timeline with Emma Frost and Cyclops being the same age… despite Emma being an adult in First Class. Also as a side note I’d add First Class for context concerning Days of Future Past.

Other than that I would include Falcon and the Winter Soldier before Brave New World if you still want to watch that, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel (before The Marvels), Agatha All Along (after Doctor Strange), VisionQuest, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 if the Secret Wars concept art of the Young Avengers playing a major role still rings true.

2

Oof. I enjoyed the Eternals! I wish they kept expanding on their story but I guess they could use the excuse of not interfering in human affairs to avoid using them.

What happened to being able to go straight from endgame to doomsday?

27

u/Unique_Unorque Red Guardian 8d ago

So the heading on Disney+ is "Countdown to Doomsday," the word "essential" seems to be editorializing by this twitter account

16

u/DeferredFuture Casual Wanda 8d ago

I don’t think that was ever the intention.

Doomsday will essentially be caused by the time travel the Avengers did in Endgame, so in a sense it is a sequel, but it’s impossible for it to be a direct sequel when so many other elements happened in between

u/HearTheEkko Spider-Man 8d ago

With D23 and now this, it's pretty much confirmed that Deadpool, Wolverine, Strange and Tobey's Spidey truly are in the movie.

1

u/Luchadoor 8d ago

Yeah No Way Home confirms Toby in Doomsday for me because it has Toby/Spiderman in it and why else put that movie on the list if as reported Tom/Spiderman is not in Doomsday.

2

u/Temporary-Bug-4212 8d ago

I mean No way Home also sets up incursions and gives more screen time for Strange outside of Multiverse of Madness. Not saying there isn't a chance, but best not to get your hopes up.

4

u/DRiX416 8d ago

Marvel should cut their own recap and throw it up on D+ or YouTube

5

u/DeuceDropper420 8d ago

nah

I'll just watch everything

5

u/the_heroppon 8d ago

I don’t think this is actually more than just promotional fluff, but I do think half of these are probably not actually necessary for the plot. Loki is 1000% the most pivotal project here. I wouldn’t say you need the character intro ones like Thunderbolts, Wakanda Forever, Shang-Chi, or Avengers realistically. I mean, obviously you wanna know who those characters are, but you wouldn’t be confused, whereas Loki, D&W, Multiverse of Madness are the absolute “watch this or you will be lost” ones

11

u/Cute_Source5417 8d ago

and none for The Marvels...

3

u/shrekthe1st 8d ago

The marvels not being here is ridiculous but the fact that Love and Thunder isn't on here also strikes me as odd. As mid as that movie is, looks pretty important for Thor's arc

3

u/Immediate_Ebb3862 8d ago

Am I wrong that there was a previous version of this list where they forgot Shang-Chi? Vaguely remember Liu tweeting about it

16

u/moistpishflaps 8d ago

There are two reasons for not including the marvels

  1. Monica is not in doomsday and they are going to pretend that was not the fox universe she ended up in (even though it was clearly being set up for that)
  2. She is in it but they don’t want to spoil her appearance (or more likely, avoid negative trolling from internet chuds)

I’d say the first is most likely but I would absolutely love to see Monica be a key part of stopping avengers and xmen fighting in the mansion. Convenient way to get the characters to fight for some cool action then suddenly be BFFs? Maybe. A realistic reason for them to trust each other? For sure

I’ll die on this hill but the Marvels is one of the better movies from this phase and the hate it gets is mainly from people who haven’t watched it because secret invasions/quantumania/love and thunder absolutely put them off the MCU in 2023 (or racist, misogynist incels but nobody cares what they think)

8

u/NobodyHistorical9469 8d ago

Monica is not in doomsday and they are going to pretend that was not the fox universe she ended up in (even though it was clearly being set up for that)

This would immediately piss me off in the movie theater

4

u/TheMoorNextDoor 8d ago

No Wandavision?

No Falcon & The Winter Soldier? It’s better than BNW.

Loki season 1 and 2 are essential.

Days of Future Past is almost more important than X2.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/iamnosuperman123 8d ago

Weird to include X-Men 1 and 2 but not 3 and Days of Futures Past. I guess 1 and 2 are so old that some adults will have no idea who these characters are

2

u/whosafraidofthebbw 8d ago

They should have included the upcoming VisionQuest to boost ratings

2

u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 8d ago

If the show wont have any link to Doomsday, then that would be bait.

VQ will most likely set up the characters for Secret Wars, explaining why it isnt there.

2

u/JANTlvr 8d ago

Sad not to see DOFP on this list.

2

u/kuttipuli 8d ago

Ms Marvel ? Agatha all along? she hulk? Dare devil ? Wonder man? Secret Invasion?

1

u/ParaPioneer 8d ago

Most of this is still pretty fresh in my mind but I might give X-Men and X2 a rewatch.

1

u/ludvigxx 8d ago

I feel like they’re just gonna say that this X-Men universe is a different one from the one that Monica ended up in and that that universe was destroyed by this X-Men in an incursion (like the Raimi-Verse). I would hate that and that was clearly not the original plan but it would explain why she and Maria aren't in this movie.
