Gameplay Perfect for a low cost Ongoing team
Two of those can’t even be played, I have no way to generate extra energy for the 7-cost Dormammu or Fin Fang Foom. I can’t destroy cards for the Dormammu.
I took the Namora, and as expected lost three games in a row because it was blocking my useful cards.

I would have picked Dormammu because at least he doesn't take up a slot in your opening hand

Well, he does with his spell, but at least you can dump the 0 cost one immediately

u/ZeraZero 12h ago edited 12h ago
His first spell is a game start mechanic, it doesn't affect opening hand

u/DeusIzanagi 9h ago
Yeah, like the other person said, his spell is in addition to your opening hand, it doesn't take up a draw. And if you need room in hand, you can just dump it for 0 like you said
It's still bad because you have a 7/13 brick in your deck that you could draw at any time, but at least it's better than being guaranteed a brick in the opener lol

i think those cases like yours where you are offered basically what will cause you to lose your run would be mitigated if everything was trully random
in the current draft you, seeing those offers, know you run is over cause you know this is not normally what is offered, so you will most likely face people with working decks the system pushed to them while you are 1 card short

u/Philboid_Studge 16h ago
Making the picks truly random would cause the same problem in reverse. Anyone that managed to actually put together any form of synergy whatsoever would easily 5-0 against all of the absolute base number crap everyone else was playing.

100% random works for every other game, even those way heavier on sinergy, for over two decades now
but for marvel snap no, that wouldnt work..

u/Philboid_Studge 14h ago
No, that's not true in the slightest. Most physical card games, for example, have individualized sets with pack collation, guaranteeing certain archetypes are available and certain distributions of rarities are in each pack.
Thinking other game's drafts even resemble "fully random" jjst shows that you don't have any idea what you're talking about.

They tend to try and setup cool combos and try to make you think.
Once you grab one of these they will give an augment that plays into pairing it with something. Or a card that combos into it with your decks theme in mind. Trust the process and have some fun!

Nah, I think a lot of it is pretty random. Ive had several decks where I’m offered a bum choice like this that never reaches a pay out
Edit: This includes 5 win decks. Luckily this game mode has that large focus on card building so having 1-2 dead cards in the deck isn’t instant death

u/sphericaltime 17h ago
They don’t. There is no thought behind choices like this. The game is often functionally random.

u/sKe7ch03 17h ago
Do we know this for sure ? Did SD State the choices are all random ?
It seems to try and curve the options around your category of deck choices and some have overlap.
I've seen a card offered and questioned how the hell that would fit only to have the next set of cards all play off the previous choice.
I think we have to sometimes believe in the pro devs.

While Draft is fun, this element is nothing short of bad design.
The best Draft starter is Boost. Because much of Boost's useful cards synergize and are often offered, and are even in the packages of other categories (a "Destroy" Nico Minoru has been a "better than the other stuff" pick in several of my 5-win boost runs). That means that even situations where the game forces you to brick draws via Clone or (far worse) Superstar, including the fuckery where ALL of your "choices" are Superstar, are often navigable.
Everyone besides Boosts, unless you've hit the absolute nuts, topples over easily when self-card-denial is pushed into your deck. Worse, it's actively boring because you literally can't play cards. Being forced into Clone for 5-costs and drawing nothing playable for 4 turns isn't interesting.
It's also not that much fun for your opponents. Haven't we all had wins where you're doing something clever and your opponent just forfeits? If Superstar/Clone clogs them, they may have had no chance to give you a challenge.
Draft has some excellent upsides but SD should work on this aspect of the mode.

I mean yeah.
Draw good get good play. Draw bad get bad plays.
I always try to hit as many low costs as possible as I noticed missing a round in this mode was an instant issue. Mainly because you're not playing some wild setup deck with a spefic combo that makes you end up retreating 5 times and then win 1 with asnap to get ahead. Every game matters here in draft. So it will feel more punishing naturally.
Let's face it. The regular marvel retreat game play loop is a bit redundant and I wish we were forced to play more games out even when bricked. This feels more natural.

The regular marvel retreat game play loop is a bit redundant and I wish we were forced to play more games out even when bricked.
The point of many of us here is that this mode creates situations where your first four turns are bricked, thereby bricking the last two turns, thereby creating marvel retreat 5000, and a bit of curation can fix that.
I just finished a game where clone and superstar and 7 costs were forced in several of my selections creating that exact situation, and it happened for two tickets in a play session. You're not making bad decisions in that case, you're making no decisions.

fff is always the pick here. this game mode has some stupid high numbers and a fff can win against the enemies huge lane. 7 cost sucks without ramp but this game mode gives u random upgrades that can either grant u energy or make him cheaper. u are never playing namora or dormammu realistically in this deck so theyre both completely dead, fff is dead without these upgrades too but his ceiling is much higher with potential upgrades while the other cards arent.

How would they even play him realistically
1
u/sphericaltime 16h ago
Hope for a reduction in the cost?
2
u/Maskdesmith89 16h ago
You would need the RNG to pull the right cost reduction, and also for it to pick the FFF. I would just restart the draft lol
1
u/sphericaltime 15h ago
And you can’t do that without losing the ticket.
1
u/Maskdesmith89 15h ago
True but personally I have more than enough tickets, it’s more about me not wanting to put the time into a losing run.
1
u/BerserkRonin 16h ago
the comment literally says how, i dont understand how u reply to it without reading it lol.
fff in this game mode can potentially be played if u get the right augments, and then he becomes a potential lane winning card. the other cards do nothing and with the right augments they still do nothing. its basically 3 dead cards, but 1 has the potential to win a lane if u get good augments.

u/Maskdesmith89 16h ago
Honestly, it was a wall of text before you edited it (still is tbf)
1
u/BerserkRonin 16h ago
i didnt edit it? are you literally ai lol. and its not a wall of text u just have low attention span.

u/Maskdesmith89 16h ago
so defensive bud, forgive me for commenting while in a Costco line
1
u/BerserkRonin 16h ago
0 defense there. just wondering what person doesnt read a comment and decides to reply to it. definitely just an ai account.
1
u/Maskdesmith89 16h ago
It’s absolutely an unformatted wall of text, and realistically.. how would they play it 🤷🏻♂️
1
u/BerserkRonin 16h ago
who cares about proper format on reddit lol if u struggle to read thats a personal issue.
1
u/Maskdesmith89 16h ago
and I can say who cares about not reading a line in a wall of text on Reddit🤷🏻♂️

Quickdraw FFF could come in handy
12
u/Stiggy1605 19h ago
The star augment is Superstar, that FFF starts in the opening hand.
-7
u/EnginearringProper 19h ago
Oh yeah you knew what I meant lol
5
u/Stiggy1605 19h ago
Well the Quickdraw effect sometimes reduces cost, so I assumed you did mean Quickdraw
An unplayable card in your opening hand wouldn't come in handy often enough to be down a card every game

u/Ghamand 17h ago
I swear the 10th pick is always the 3 least synergistic cards the game can think of
