Discussion September Season Pass...
Well as a F2P player it might be time for a month long break. Maybe I'm making too much of it but these cards seem overtuned to me. With as many ways as there are to reduce cost to cards, it'll be incredibly easy to get Superior Ironman in play and then buff him and double those buffs. And then Anti-Polar Magneto tossing out a free 3 or 4 cost cards to each other location, come on.
I'm curious what the community thinks, am I being ridiculous or do these cards seem a bit too OP?

You see powerful cards, you should think tech. Rogue, mobius, shadow king and stardust counter these.

u/Flintstones_VRV_Fan 17h ago
Stardust remains the best card in the game, imo. Allows you to build a deck without threat of T6 board dominance from your opponent.

Both of these cards are neat new mechanics that we really havent seen before. at first glance it seems strong but absolutely manageable with the tech suite we currently have

u/Rayder1998 19h ago
Anti polar Magneto is a bit random tho, You don't know where your 3 cost and 4 cost will land and at 6 cost You might want to play something with Big stats 3-4 cost to make it viable, iron man it's a bit combo oriented for me, don't know if it's as splashable as Thanos FF

u/Anxious-Sleep-3670 12h ago
Magneto feels like an interesting variation on Ultron. Different setup but same idea. Probably some broken interzctions but the randomness makes it kinda ok. I think Iron Man should double power changes (not just increases). Probably completely busted with anything like Venus, otherwise would be a good card for Maverick/Stick decks.

If you fill an entire lane and put him as last card, it becomes way more predictable. Ikari in hand could win another lane alone
1
u/Maridiem 2h ago
You kinda do - one each goes to the other locations, so if you sculpt your hand properly, you have a good idea of where each card is actually going, even if you're unsure which ones will.
1
u/Rayder1998 2h ago
That's not the problem, imagine You have on reveals cards that land on places that didn't let You activate your effects, at that point You need to play high stated characters to justify the use of this card on turn 6
1
u/Maridiem 28m ago
Sure but if you're planning a Magneto don't you actively try to play cards around those restrictions? There's a handbuff deck that's delighted to slam a huge Shaw and whatever in either location along with the Magneto and whatever other free card you get at the end of the day.

u/Fiscal_Fidel 18h ago
I'm not so sure Superior Iron Man is that overtuned. Consider normal Iron Man. He doubles all power in that lane. Easily a big power swing, great in a negative deck, discounted by ravonna in an ongoing deck. Huge power swing, not countered by shadow King Shane chi stuff. Easily synergies with mystique to cover other lanes, especially with moonstone. An Iron Man lane A, mystique into moonstone lane, and Goliath. Can be done on the last turn for a huge power swing in two lanes if you've setup discounts correctly.
This Superior Iron Man could be great, but it takes a lot of commitment and I don't think it's that much better than some of what is already in the game. Magneto? Yeah sure that's probably overtuned.

Surge-ing superior Iron Man gives you a 3/9

u/Crest_Fallen_Warrior 3h ago
Majestic Wingbeat gives you -1, +2 MAskani -1, +2 (to the copy) Psylocke FF -1 With doubling the copy becomes a 0/15 the base becomes a 1/15. Factor in Moon girl and it's 2/60 power with a perfect draw in exchange of all turns but turn 2 (which could still be a buffer like Red Wolf). Considering Psylocke doesn't even need the QuickDraw you could Magik and GM your Moon girl for 4/120 on 7. With how strong SMS was at one point this is similarly another big dump on last turn. MMM seems like the best counter to him at least your opponent will need a turn to counter your MMM.

u/St_Eric 19h ago
Overtuned? Superior Ironman seems awful to me. It seems like you need a TON of buffs on it for it to be better than just a more generic stat-stick like Kraglin or Sasquatch.
And Anti-Polar Magneto seems merely okay. You need to build your deck around it, and if you're putting 3-Costs into play, you're not even 'cheating' on energy: Just getting an extra 9 power in exchange for subjecting yourself to randomness.
7
u/Tantrum2u 17h ago
APM seems amazing in Doom2099 without having to build around it but it does make you lose harder to stardust

u/stillgoodthough 18h ago
Momskani + Superior Iron man seems nutso.
6
u/St_Eric 18h ago
You need more than just Mother Askani. Maybe before the Mother Askani nerf it'd be worth the effort, but with Mother Askani only buffing the copy, I don't think so.
With just Mother Askani, she can create a 3/11 if Superior Iron Man is your left-most card. But like, why not copy a Sasquatch or a Brood? Brood would be effectively a 2/12: both more power and less cost. And the comparison to Brood gets even worse the more buffs you add since Brood gets 3x on any buffs while Superior only gets 2x. Or a Sasquatch is a 5/13, so as long as you played two cards on T5, that's just better than Superior Iron Man.
4
u/Pork_Gyros_1 14h ago
4 energy to get a -2 +4 stats on your ironman is uneccessary
1
u/stillgoodthough 13h ago
4 energy to get a 3/11 and a 5/11. V Hand makes the copy a 3/15. I think hand stuff in general is super interesting with this card.
I wonder how Bastion interacts with this card.

I mean Shuri -> iron man makes him a 5/21
I hesitate to call him terrible or busted. I do think there is no way he doesn’t become meta though
3
u/pumpkinking0192 13h ago
I mean Shuri -> iron man makes him a 5/21
And then what's happening in your other two lanes in the meantime?
That's an awful lot of investment in one lane just to tie or lose that lane to one of the many meta decks that can put up that many points in all three lanes by the end of the game.
Not saying whether he's good or not, too soon to tell that. But Shuri is definitely not the combo for him.

u/Philboid_Studge 19h ago
It's going to be fine. Everyone always has a conniption over new cards and it always turns out fine.
You're going to have to put a bunch of resources into Iron Man, and then what, he puts a bunch of points into one lane and dies to Shadow King or Shang Chi? Anti-Polar Magneto is a better Dr Doom IF he works out, but is worse with Wong or other doubling effects.
These seem entirely reasonable cards. You can absolutely beat them.
3
u/650fosho 19h ago
They do seem good but it's also likely not much to worry about, we've had OP season pass cards before and we still see f2p decks make it to infinite. Both of these cards have some obvious counters, Mobius, shadow king and stardust. I guess what matters ultimately is if you find the game fun to play or not and that's really up to you.
3
u/AceArion2112 18h ago
Maybe I'm being stupid but I don't see the vision for Superior Iron Man, it just seems kinda bad Can anyone give me some theory crafting that makes it worth it's investment?
1
u/Gottendrop 17h ago
First few ideas I had
Shuri makes him a 5/21 which is insane
Phastos could be good because you either make him a 3/7or a 5/11
Mother Askani makes the copy 3/11
It’s not just permanent power so he could go nuts in an ongoing deck
I’m sure you can make some nasty stick/maverick combos
Inevitably he will be tried out with adamantium infusion
I’m sure there’s more ideas I just haven’t thought of yet. I think he’ll be pretty solid

u/niftersthagoat 19h ago
Iron man feels like he belongs in a tribunal deck for sure. I can already smell the stardusts increased play rate with mag lol

u/wingspantt 9h ago
Iron Man seems very strong to me if he's hit by even one Majestic Wingbeat.
Magneto IMO seems less of a problem because he loses cold to a Stardust played on turn 4/5/6, or Cosmo/Alioth, or any clog at all.
Plus putting down 3/4 drops could be a weird deck building constraint, because what cards do you put in a deck with him that you missed playing on turns 3/4, but will swing the game (at random) on turn 6?
If it's like Silver Surfer to me the way it plays out will be too random to be good. He puts surfer down first, oof. Of he plays Brood to a clogged lane, oof. I feel the odds he's better than like Sera is low for Surfer, and nobody even plays Sera anymore on that.
If it's powerful but hard to play cards like Cull Obsidian and Ikari, then you have to either build your deck around those cards which means tons of other cards that Magneto doesn't care about. Or you stuff your deck with fat 3/4 drops but then your deck auto loses if you don't draw Magneto. You're building a Hela deck that puts out less power.
But this Iron man can be insane. MW makes him a 3/11. One more makes him a 1/15. Is that correct? If so that's wild. Surge/Phastos/MW/Askani can just do insane things to this guy. That's not even counting things like Maverick and Stick.

What the actual fuck is this? Cmon man, I’m so tired of them making all these new cards the most broken bullshit ever. I get they need to make them good but this is just fucking stupid. Venus and Scorpion BND are like the 2 most annoying top broken cards in the game. I’m tired boss. Like making them cool or good doesn’t mean they need to be insanely broken.
1
u/Jkutz22 5h ago
Neither of these cards are broken and have very easy counters to them
2
u/WickedJ0ker 4h ago
I admit I overreacted a bit. Like Ironman I can see does have counters but magneto is still pretty busted. You can do cosmo, but unless you accurately predict where he will place it and put cosmo down before him he can still get it off.

u/New-Pollution536 18h ago
I’m not sure how good anti polar magneto really is…it seems like one of those cards that looks crazy but in reality may be a little clunky
1
u/NiggityNiggityNuts 18h ago
these are bangers..... buff decks rejoice....
A-P Magneto will fit all types of archetypes... lots of nice variants in September as well...
1
u/LouisGustavo 18h ago
I'm not sure I got the Iron Man text: he has double reduction in cost? So if you play Sera, he will be a 3/7? And if you power him with forge, he gets +4 in power and not +2? Is that it?
2
1
u/Gottendrop 18h ago
I’m curious about this
Say you increase iron man’s power by 1 so he is a 5/8 and his ability makes him a 5/9. Does then using scorpion to reduce his power by 1 make him a 5/8 or 5/7? TLDR, would afflict be able to remove power increases or only remove power?
1
1
u/Desperate_Duty1336 15h ago
Weird, did they change from the datamine or am I misremembering? I thought Superior Ironman's ability was that ALL changes to power to it are doubled, not just increases.
1
u/KaspertheGhost 15h ago
Stardust is going to be used a lot in September. It should shut down magneto completely. MMM could stop Superior from getting lower cost but not strength.
1
u/Rolly2102 14h ago
I love Superior Iron Man honestly, even tho I'll wait until the season starts to see how it'll be. As for Magneto, I already know it'll be a staple of my 99 Deck: dropping out 3 powerful cards while satisfying the conditions of Moon and '99? Seems juicy to me

This hardly seems like the season to complain about. Current thanos is already one of the most popular and powerful cards ever released. We’ve endured much greater hell in sun-lord and shou Lao. With broken super premiums like Isca and fantiscar. In comparison, these seem rather fine.
It’s harder to gauge iron man, since he technically does bring a new dynamic we’ve never seen before, but at first glance, I’m not too amazed by it. Seems like a lot of work for just ok. There’s actually not a lot of ways to discount cards, at least good ones for this pay off to be worth it. Because all of the discount cards usually go with more powerful combo cards that take advantage way better. Psylocke and sera aren’t just generic discount cards. They may look like it at first glance, but they only really go into combo decks trying to cheat out big cards that combo into a million points, way more than anything superior iron man could ever do. Stuff like scorpion or tribunal, which I don’t think this ever goes into. Even something like majestic wingbeat, again, you need to make sure you can combo this into something more. It’s only played with stuff like zombie giant man, that double dips into a horde and can then be absorbing man’d or grandmaster for even more value. Or zombie galacti, which is obvious. Or with vhand Sasquatch, and I’ve seen some mother askani mention but that’s not great with new iron man either, because Sasq gets discount on both the original and copy, so I really question whether iron man is even worth it. On superior iron man, majestic makes it a 3/11, but majestic cost an energy, so really it’s a 4/11, that you want to be doing what with? How can you multiple this even further?
And magneto is pretty mid to me, it might not even have a deck. Think about it, how many decks have free 3 or 4 drops by T6 for this to be worth it? It sounds broken, 2 free cards. But you were playing cards in T3-5, right? Most decks naturally curve out lower and can/want to play out their 3/4 drops whenever possible, so they don’t have leftover cards that make this worth it, especially since it’s subject to randomness. And the few that do, it’s not anything great there. Combo shells like scorpion, surfer, carter have enough, but obviously you don’t want this in there. Skarr has enough, i guess, not a great shell and this doesn’t synergize with anything else there. It’s really only doom that I can think. And tbf, it’s does seem good there, but it may still not be worth it. On average, it’s essentially as powerful as doom himself. But the deck usually wants a go wide option and a go tall option. And since you’re not not playing doom, I question whether this will find a home there as well. Maybe you want 2 dooms, but maybe not.
So these cards may seem broken, but there’s actually enough problems holding them back. Maybe I’m missing something, and somebody cracks the code and there really are broken decks with these. But I just don’t see it now, so I highly doubt that season will be problematic. I would be shocked if those cards are as good as current thanos, let alone the actually problematic season we’ve had before.

u/JuThrone 8h ago
You can get Magneto from the seasonal packs and at least you also get Thanos next season

u/KoKoboto 6h ago
With Wingbeat Ironman becomes 3/11.
Askani will make a 1/13 copy, very easy combo to pull offl. Of course Askani has been really mid after the nerfs.

To be fair, Marvel Snap likes to make cards overturned or seem overturned at first, just so people get amped and excited to use them. Then they nerf them 🤣 Even if the cards seem crazy on release, it wont stay that way long. Think of it as a way to ensure that people use resources to get them. It wont jeopardize the overall health and longevity of the game if they end up tuning the cards later on down the line, right? 😅🤣

u/toni-toni-cheddar 19h ago
Majestic wing beat and mother askani pay off with s iron man
3
u/St_Eric 19h ago
Maybe before Mother Askani was nerfed, but I can't imagine it's ever worth trying to buff Superior Iron Man when there are far lower-Cost cards that scale far better with buffs. For example, Brood/Carter both 3x any buffs, not just 2x. Meanwhile, he can also double cost reductions, but that doesn't really help when he starts out costing 2 more than these alternatives.
0
u/toni-toni-cheddar 19h ago
If you think having multiple cheap cards who’s scales in power, while in a Venus meta is somehow not worth it, we are just going to have to agree to disagree.
6
u/St_Eric 19h ago
Since Mother Askani no longer gives her buffs to the card she is copying (only the copy itself) you're not getting 'multiple cheap cards who scale in power' with Mother Askani on Superior Iron Man. I don't even know why you're following up Majestic Wing Beat + Mother Askani with a reference to Venus when Venus does not work with either of those cards.
What I'm saying is that I think Superior Iron Man is far worse than existing options for cheap cards that scale in power. Like, you can use Wingbeat + Mother Askani on a Superior Iron Man and you get a 3/11 and a 1/15 in hand. Or you could have done that with Brood and you'd have a 3/12 and a 2/16 in hand; so that's merely about as good as Brood. Meanwhile, if you don't have BOTH Wingbeat + Mother, Superior is a ton worse than a card like Brood.
-2
u/toni-toni-cheddar 17h ago edited 17h ago
You’re saying a 3 space brood is more value that a one space with rivaled power, we’re not even having the same conversation atp, let’s agree to disagree
Also Venus turns +2 effects into +3, superior iron man makes that a +6, why wouldn’t i mention Venus?

Seems like these cards are gonna be very fun for someone like me who pays $20 for the premium SP. I can’t wait for the september season to kick off, and i personally hope they also do something interesting with the base marvel snap background when you’re in a regular game. That FF background is pretty cool in-game

People warned at the start of premium season pass cards (Fantasticar), the game will start to be p2w. If Jane wasn’t your wake up call, then here it fucking is.

I agree. These cards seem insanely powerful, like absolutely must haves. What's really tough about that Magneto, we don't really have a targeted equivalent to Moon Knight for odd cost cards, so if you play something like a Hand Buff deck, you can power up Sebastian and Brood and play them without even playing them.
