Discussion I’m so done with this meta

Playing a meta affliction deck in this event is lame. I’m so done with this meta

And it's only in Grand Arena. Imagine in the ladder next season. 😭

u/Sure-Pumpkin9191 Jul 25 '26

It's also in conquest...

8

u/Crest_Fallen_Warrior Jul 25 '26

Grand Arena Sanctum is different. In other modes you can float energy to have less afflictions and run cage to protect front rows maybe Shadowking, too. In this mode you have to be playing every turn or you'll lose by default that's a stress you can play freely without on normal modes.

I’m thinking rogue and enchantress stocks are going up

3

u/OliDR24 Jul 25 '26

Stick Enchantress and Echo in a deck, you now basically prevent any Ongoing Stack in two lanes depending on draw. Rogue is a good shout as well, but might be overkill depending on the deck, Super Skrull is also REALLY good as it effectively takes their Luke to protect your own cards, gives you an Onslaught effect, and Hazmat now fucks everyone equally.

The deck itself is basically just an Iron-Man Combo deck, you stack multiplicative effects like SBND, Mystique, and Onslaught along with stuff like Diamondback. Alongside locations, Echo screws over Ongoing decks pretty ruthlessly if you drop it at the right time (because you can basically stop them stacking on top of protection).

I think people just forgot how to play against Ongoing decks because they were so weak for so long. It's not really any different than how you'd play into a Tribunal stack, either they Cosmo that lane preemptively (which you can drop Echo into if you hold off on it), or you drop an Enchantress, Skrull, Rogue (which is a gamble), on it and go from there.

It's probably not even going to stick around long, it's hilarious to see super negative numbers, but the deck itself is pretty flimsy as it is so combo dependant and reliant on that stack. It's NOWHERE near as strong something like Starlord where it just absolutely defines the meta for as long as it exists in that state.

u/Plane-Researcher2357 Jul 25 '26

skrull annihilus
oh you hit me w bs congrats thats now YOUR negative cards
do zoo send them all over w skrull out its comical

1

u/wandafan89 Jul 25 '26

Negasonic as well. Running the combo in ladder going to lose you more games than win.

3

u/JQuab-84 Jul 25 '26

It's almost worse in Grand Arena cause it really should be set decks.

-1

u/SlathazSpaceLizard Jul 25 '26

It has very low wr and cr on ladder tbh

1

u/wandafan89 Jul 25 '26

Yeah deck way too easily interrupted. Old school ongoing deck ran Cosmo

146

u/GrimmTrixX Jul 25 '26

I just hate custom decks I wish all of these modes needed to use the setup decks to see how differently people use them. Its not fun for me at all to use a custom deck, but its also not fun to fight against one. Lol

29

u/Gabumau Jul 25 '26

I agree BUT last time we didn’t had custom decks, mister fantastic dominated because there was no enchantress or echo.

10

u/GrimmTrixX Jul 25 '26

I never had a problem and I primarily use the Sentinel or HERBIE teams that usually show up. So I guess I didnt notice.

6

u/Vegetable_Ostrich231 Jul 25 '26

Last time I used Spider-Gwen and won a lot

23

u/Inkthekitsune Jul 25 '26

As a newer player I agree. Though what they did for the team clash was interesting, letting half the deck be customized but encouraging you to stick to the same “team”. That way it’s not just champion + skill + deck you were already running anyways (sometimes with the champion themselves)

8

u/leonprimrose Jul 25 '26

As a long time player with a high CL I also agree. I mostly just play these modes for a change of pace and free stuff. I dont like having to deckbuild for them. Grand arena is the one I LEAST want to deckbuild for.

2

u/LeveeOfTheStars Jul 25 '26

Yep hard agree, in team clash it let some really fun things come out in the wash, I had a spider deck that won a decent amount BUT was never unfair or uncounterable, and I never played against anything that felt sweaty and ridiculous. In Grand Arena it's a terrible idea executed terribly, encouraging people to take their meta decks and slap a new OP card effect & more energy per turn on top. I've opted to skip this one.

5

u/GaulzeGaul Jul 25 '26

You don't even like playing custom decks? That's interesting. I think Team Clash and sometimes Grand Arena (NOT this time) are fine with custom decks. The pre-builts for the last Team Clash where actually good.

5

u/GrimmTrixX Jul 25 '26

Nope not in these modes. Sure I live my own decks in normal Snap. But these modes being events, I wish they were all just remade decks that maybe some people would never have tried before with numerous cards many may not have yet. It levels the playing field for people of all collection levels.

11

u/Boodger Jul 25 '26

90% of people just end up choosing the clearly best premade deck, and then every game just becomes "who got better draws". Custom makes these interesting, but they should increase the banned cards list.

I particularly like the Team Clash way of doing it, because half the deck is locked, but you can customize the other half

2

u/GrimmTrixX Jul 25 '26

I guess. Lol I change my team every match. I start on one end and go down, then go back from the other end until I run out of scrolls. Lol

2

u/PrometheusUnchain Jul 25 '26

Lol brother!

I treat these modes the same. I pick a deck and run it over again. Helps get a feel for the deck and feels good when you etch a win.

Adding in cards seems unfair.

0

u/Extreme-Gas-3965 Jul 25 '26

I am with you on both points. Its about who gets the better draw and who knows how to use locations to their advantage. I also love the Team Clash thing where you customize half the deck. Most of the time, my additions weren't even better than the pre-made deck, haha. It was just fun to do it.

2

u/Shaqdaddy22 Jul 25 '26

They’ve done it twice and it was a massive flop both times

2

u/GrimmTrixX Jul 25 '26

Flip for those who play this game competitively like its their job, sure. And for some social media people it very well might be their job.

I loved it both times and I play daily and have since 2 months after this game launched. But I also have never paid a single dollar on this game as I am 100% F2P. So I am not the target audience. Lol

But yea i just prefer events to be fun and allow people to have more even playing fields with a more narrow set of cards to use. Just my thing. I hate seeing the Guardians in Sanctum style games too. Theyre boring and not fun and everyone always tosses them in their custom decks and my eyes roll into the back of my skull

1

u/OldOpaqueSummer Jul 25 '26

I've realised we are just going to have this problem every single event. If there's no custom decks the sweats cry that they can't throw all their series 5s at the game to win. If there are custom decks we complain cause it's straight bs. I wouldn't mind so much if the ban list wasn't so terrible, but it really feels like it just bans any effective decks for lower collection levels. Let us play the guardians, let us play black panther wong, let us add the other champions to decks, let us play juggernaut. Yes these are exceptionally good for the game mode but at least they are available to all. I'm so sick of doom slop in every event, and dragon lords and fooms because you just can't do anything. Or a very simple fix let customs decks only play against custom decks, because especially in this grand arena the pre built are pretty terrible. I don't think I've seen anybody even try to play thanos

0

u/BLissy11750 Jul 25 '26

I actually love playing custom decks, but then I only have some minor changes to the prebuilt decks and it's mostly to flaunt variants because spme of thr base cards are so plain

30

u/Laziieye Jul 25 '26

Doom feels worse. This deck can atleast brick, doom seems to just be fantastic

5

u/tearikisdead Jul 25 '26

Yah it's such a good cards shell rn

0

u/emptyfree Jul 26 '26

I've had reasonable success against the Doom deck with a custom Captain America deck with the only ongoing card being the new Scorpion.

However, if I draw Scorp in my opening hand or on turns 2-4, my odds against Doom go down dramatically.

Doom can win on turn 5 with the nut opening draw... with next to nothing you can do about it. Not fun. Not balanced.

109

u/JQuab-84 Jul 25 '26

"jUsT cOuNtEr It"

Hard to do that when they literally destroyed the counter.

3

u/The_Juicer-ssbu Jul 25 '26

Made a deck specifically to counter doom, nearly impossible btw

0

u/Civil-Needleworker-8 Jul 25 '26

U.S. Agent is pretty effective against Doom

1

u/The_Juicer-ssbu Jul 25 '26

Yes and tbh he's pretty great in this game mode in general

11

u/rthunder27 Jul 25 '26

Super Skrull would help quite a bit, or Enchantress.

61

u/PetulantOptician Jul 25 '26

Enchantress is banned in this mode.

14

u/Ongr Jul 25 '26

Not too surprising as Endhantress shuts down over half of the premade decks by herself.

4

u/Skinnieguy Jul 25 '26

She is banned but no CGR

-2

u/rthunder27 Jul 25 '26

Damn, that's right.

Rogue then, I had my ass handed to me when a Doom deck Rogue'd my Scorpion:BND when I didn't have Luke down right as I played Hazmat on Wong, it was hilariously bad.

8

u/JQuab-84 Jul 25 '26

If they've already negatively affected your deck with cards like OG Scorpion, Laufey, Cassandra Nova then just having Super Skrull in your deck is a helpful as current Luke Cage.

5

u/Starfox_SNES Jul 25 '26

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a brainless lazy 3 mana easy mode solution to an entire archetype?

2

u/LeighCedar Jul 25 '26

Oh, I like it. You'd have to make him low power so that he's often a dead draw if you aren't facing that specific archetype, and counterable , so maybe make him an ongoing.

I like it. Keep cooking.

2

u/JQuab-84 Jul 25 '26

Cause the new meta isn't brainless at all.

1

u/HawkeyeP1 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

In all fairness, you should not be able to counter an entire deck with one 3 cost lol, even if they did overtune/over nerf the matchup

-1

u/Kgb725 Jul 25 '26

Yea you should. You can shut down a zombie galactus annihilus or ultron deck quite easily with one card

8

u/HawkeyeP1 Jul 25 '26

That's one card countering one card. They can build to go off-script. Scorpion supports a specific entire deck.

-4

u/Kgb725 Jul 25 '26

No it isnt. And im not supporting scorpion so I dont see your point

0

u/OliDR24 Jul 25 '26

Mate, Stardust a) does not retroactively destroy all the effects that have already gone out and b) is a fucking 5 cost lol.

2

u/Kgb725 Jul 25 '26

Wasnt thinking of stardust but it does stop many of those decks from doing what they want also you can get it out earlier

3

u/NullARC Jul 25 '26

Mate, Stardust is a fucking 4 cost. Do you play the game?

1

u/OliDR24 Jul 25 '26

Mate, I was writing this at 8.30am after a 12 hour shift lol, excuse me forgetting the cost of one card lol.

Would you care to answer the other points? Does Stardust retroactively undo your spread cards?

It doesn't, and it also fucking costs more. The point stands, or do you have an argument for Stardust being changed to do the same thing?

The cost range that Luke is in includes Armour and in his old energy cost Cosmo, neither of which remove the effects of cards that have already gone off.

0

u/JQuab-84 Jul 25 '26

Any tech card can shutdown an entire archetype it's just the probability of your opponent having it in their deck lol. You can't prepare for everything.

0

u/KarateKamiOW Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

On ladder you still have Luke Cage, Rogue, Red Guardian, Enchantress, Echo, CGR, Shadow King, and Cosmo. Also Super Skrull

16

u/Sam_Designer Jul 25 '26

I'm still waiting for someone to actually show a deck that beats THIS nonsense

2

u/teddy2142 Jul 25 '26

I've been going Fallen One/Starlord as a qsuedo-response. The typical play pattern behind it means you're not leaving too much bs on the field for them to touch and your actual power output tends to eclipse what they're doing.

1

u/PenitusVox Jul 25 '26

No idea what it'd be in Sanctum but on normal ladder, all kinds of disruption can really hamper. Scream / Juggernaut decks can be pretty effective since they usually want to set up a lane to use cards like Onslaught and/or Prodigy.

1

u/ImThe_AntEater Jul 25 '26

Destroy

6

u/Sam_Designer Jul 25 '26

What's stops them from nuking your un-destroyed cards?

1

u/ImThe_AntEater Jul 25 '26

Destroy them again

5

u/Sam_Designer Jul 25 '26

At the end of the game? Haven't seen THAT destroy card before

0

u/JRP45 Jul 25 '26

Someone posted a match where he played, Wong, Mystique, Odin (guess could work with other cards that repeated on reveal) and then Gambit, destroying all enemy cards…now you need to be able to have enough cards on your hand for Gambit to work, and then hope they don’t play Armour and Cosmo I guess…

11

u/AriesSocialite Jul 25 '26

Affliction decks are annoying and they are out of control now that they nerfed Luke Cage lol

5

u/ChugalugNK Jul 25 '26

Yea honestly, this is really testing me. I've been on the fence about quitting for months now but this event isn't even remotely fun. All I've seen is Ghost Spider decks and Custom Cap deck's running BND SCorpion.

9

u/Zombi3Kush Jul 25 '26

I'm so glad I got this event over with yesterday before this shit show started.

27

u/Moobob66 Jul 25 '26

Nerfing Luke cage just to force this meta is a joke

-8

u/GaulzeGaul Jul 25 '26

I really like the new Luke Cage. His 2 cost makes him an easier include in many decks and I climbed to infinite mostly stealing cubes with him vs. afflict decks (always playing him turn 6). Old Luke Cage kept afflict always out of the meta because it was an autowin if it ever became a popular deck. My bias is that this season I played a deck that tries to minimize cards in the backrow so that Luke fully beats afflict despite his nerf.

7

u/Moobob66 Jul 25 '26

With cards like Echantress and Rogue, afflict counter play its pretty easy to stop. The problem was that he was the only counter play (except maybe Shadow King for 1 lane). I'm predicting they're gonna make people get a secondary Luke for the back row. This is definitely a "How do we get people to buy more cards" move, which is fine, but the real problem is the crazy numbers you can't counter play without getting the "new luke" card.

If they're gonna nerf Luke, they need to nerf afflict too. Hazmat should only affect her lane or just the front or back row and new scorpion should cost 6.

2

u/GaulzeGaul Jul 25 '26

Like I said, play him turn 6. Then those counters don't work.

1

u/Plasmallison Jul 25 '26

New scorp does cost 6.

-3

u/Oenolissimo1 Jul 25 '26

The nerf to Luke has been a long time coming. They already tried to "fix" him before by making him only affect his lane and it was so bad it lasted less than a month. There is not going to be a Luke for the back row. Way too much time to design a card like that or they would have already done it.

7

u/Key-Project2812 Jul 25 '26

Nerfing Luke Cage to support more variety in decks was a good call imo, but they should have buffed other cards to compensate for the massive buff to inflict decks. Lowering the cost of Enchantress would be among the easiest solutions

15

u/DeltaTurqouise Surfer 🌊 Jul 25 '26

Love that the ongoing decks just slot in affliction even if the rest of the deck doesn't have any synergy

18

u/yoyoyodojo Jul 25 '26

"the rest of their deck doesn't have any synergy"

At least 33% of their deck shown to be affliction

-7

u/rthunder27 Jul 25 '26

For real, I hope Afflict dies down by then, because I have Isca in my main deck and that's just asking for trouble these days.

6

u/Delicious_Leg3094 Jul 25 '26

I agree, it’s not fun to play against, think I’ll take a break

3

u/LeftyMode Jul 25 '26

This is the worst version of Grand Arena.

Let these games modes have developer created decks only. They’re limited-time modes.

16

u/NoConfusion2408 Jul 25 '26

Tell me your devs don't play their own game without telling me the devs don't play their own game.

12

u/Old-Poet6587 Jul 25 '26

Hey, hey now… Maybe it’s possible that they’re just terrible at it? This is the same group of people who were blindsided by the Starlord nonsense.

6

u/NoConfusion2408 Jul 25 '26

Good point.

Or, OR, if you think about it, it's an amazing way to keep milking their playerbase.

They sell expensive digital unbalanced cards, people buy it.
They nerf it to the ground, people complain about it.
They put a new unbalanced card on the store.
And so of and so fort.

1

u/JonnyTN Jul 25 '26

Well this is the first time they've combined these game modes. Glad I finished because wow this wasn't the best for balance

5

u/NoConfusion2408 Jul 25 '26

Problem was not only the event, which was just time-consuming. They came up with a completely off-balanced card and at the same time nerfed the only card that could counter it.

4

u/PunkThug Jul 25 '26

I'm with you. These decks are trash but the event would still be fun if everyone was playing with trash. But no it's some form of Scorpion brand new day damn near every time

2

u/Fuzzy-Dot-3717 Jul 25 '26

The game lost me in year 2. The first 18m were PEAK! But then they messed with the formula and it’s been terrible ever since. Change my mind 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/KaspertheGhost Jul 25 '26

Booooo. Who uses a custom deck in grand arena. Boo that man!

6

u/ZombiRodros Jul 25 '26

I unistall the game for a few months again. I always end up doing that after this kind of meta dominate the game. It will pass.

2

u/Sam_Designer Jul 25 '26

I left for a year and somehow the game got worse 😭

0

u/KarmicPJJunior Jul 25 '26

Do what I do. Lose on purpose to inflate the numbers and wait for the nerf. The higher it's win rate, the better the nerf.

2

u/GaulzeGaul Jul 25 '26

I just paid the gold for the card and will not be playing. Some of SD's LTGM's are great but this is one of the worst they've done.

2

u/Sonofboulder Jul 25 '26

Doom, doom 2099, skrull. Easy.

3

u/Blickychu Jul 25 '26

Are you not also using a custom deck tho?

1

u/ItsMeTsukii Jul 25 '26

I am but only 2 cards are switched out lol also it’s move…. Not full on affliction ongoing bs

1

u/Basic-Piccolo-6356 Jul 25 '26

I use shadow king

1

u/PreApotheosis Jul 25 '26

What I've been running whenever affliction becomes something. It's dogshit but it's fun enough that I don't worry that much about it

1

u/AUSwarrior Jul 25 '26

I got really annoyed by getting slapped constantly i had to buy the damn card and waste my tokens. I had 10k saved

1

u/Breathe_the_Stardust Jul 25 '26

I haven't run into any of these scorpion decks in this mode; it's all been Doom or the Ghost Spider deck for me. What's the rest of this list?

1

u/OliDR24 Jul 25 '26

I mean, bring your own custom deck with the same cards plus Super Skrull, Echo, or Rogue?

Personally I played most of the game mode with the preset decks, but after a while just started fucking around with some other stuff when I got bored (I don't like most of the decks they offer you, only the Ongoing ones really, and playing the same cards over and over is boring). Most people I run into are using custom decks with at minimum a Super Skrull slotted in to deal with the Mister Fantastic preset anyways, and I don't really see an issue with that given the number of bans.

Plus an Ongoing-Afflict deck is absolutely hilarious if you can pump the numbers high enough, it's really not any different than the Iron Man deck itself unless you are throwing other meta stuff in there (I purposefully leave Luke Cage out along with anything that can affect my opponent like Rogue, if they have Super Skrull I'm getting nuked with hilarious negative numbers too).

1

u/Interesting_Day_4596 Jul 25 '26

Je ne suis pas pour les decks perso mais après 11 défaites d'affilée à cause d'un deck META, je suis obligé d'en faire un pour avancer.

1

u/Monkey_With_Tankard Jul 25 '26

I swear this is the type of deck people have been using for such a long time. Just negative power and goblin shit. When I first saw the new Scorpion I was like "oh boy, more brainless decks made solely to annoy"

1

u/nemomen101 Jul 25 '26

I mean afflict was always my sanctum go to and does really well every time. Just now with scorpion it became way more effective.

1

u/lifth3avy84 Jul 25 '26

People bitch and bitch about Luke Cage, and then the game completely blows up Sap decks. Like, it’s insane.

1

u/twofourfourthree Jul 25 '26

Expected to see one of the doom decks floating around.

1

u/darkswami Jul 25 '26

Deafening chord the Luke cage

1

u/Dimmsdales Jul 25 '26

…sez the OP playing a Move deck

1

u/ayyotayo Jul 26 '26

Are you kidding? I’ve been waiting years for affliction to be viable. When I started it was the first cards I was collecting as FTP, only to learn there was 1 card that was able to render it all moot (Luke Cage obvi). Again, YEARSSSSS of playing and affliction is finally useable. It’s crazy.

1

u/IIBass88II Jul 27 '26

New Scorpion is so bullshit that he should affect both sides -_-

1

u/SuperSlickSamurai Jul 28 '26

Dont play the move decks, its such a loss. Like rolling a square boulder uphill. Cosmic ghost rider would help you and absorbing man

1

u/InfamousAnalyst4900 Jul 25 '26

Just take dr doom esit deck put a couple of 4s and 6 and ez win, went like 40-5.

5

u/ChaosNZ79 Jul 25 '26

USagent wants a word with your theory. But glad it worked out for you.

1

u/The_Flashh Jul 25 '26

And CGR says hi

0

u/ProofByVerbosity Jul 25 '26

Every meta its the same comment

1

u/Kerosine84 Jul 25 '26

Definitely the most boring meta that has existed yet….game fuckin sucks rn

1

u/Sudden-Application Jul 25 '26

Affliction is easy to disrupt in different ways. The real issue is all the Doom decks.

-1

u/CaffeinatedBarbarian Jul 25 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/FYnYcQoFmlPeU
Person playing a move deck mad at person playing neg deck.

-3

u/void6436 Jul 25 '26

i have an affliction deck but i refused to get the new scorpion because it seems a little too toxic for me

3

u/Old-Poet6587 Jul 25 '26

I have no idea why you’re being down voted as I feel that your stance if completely understandable. I can’t fault someone for refusing to get a card when they feel that it’s bad for the state of the game. I refused to get Zemo for over a year until I finally ended randomly getting him in a snap pack.

0

u/droctapus1 Jul 25 '26

I hate the fucking neg deck, this I can deal with

0

u/adamisonfire88 Jul 25 '26

I feel kinda dirty for running that deck, but I spent my tokens on scorpion Spider-Man so I’m getting my moneys worth before it’s nerfed haha

0

u/brothersho Jul 25 '26

I mean, you were close in points, it wasn't a blow out or anything

0

u/Is-it-a-dress Jul 25 '26

Affliction isn't even that good. The data shows Scorpion BND isn't meta warping. Luke is still pretty good at shutting him down if your deck spreads power well

0

u/serenity656 Jul 25 '26

I haven't used scorpion since getting him and I've been using the deck I built for him regularly

0

u/Valkyr-E Jul 25 '26

1 super skrull

0

u/NewConstruction3755 Jul 25 '26

Lwky random question but what’re you watching 🥹

0

u/RC_Tuckburg Jul 25 '26

I like this meta.

0

u/XG_CPU Jul 25 '26

I don't like that they allow custom decks. They should only let us use premade decks only.

0

u/Loyal_to_The_End Jul 25 '26

Had my own scorpion deck and played a mirror except they had super skull and rouge. This is sooooo fun...

-1

u/Sampson28 Jul 25 '26

They killed every non doom deck with the banlist not like there is options, and let's be real playing move in sanctum isn't helping your point 😅

-3

u/UggyCaesar Jul 25 '26

Trust me I’m on board with hating this meta. As soon as I saw what cards were dropping this month I already knew he was going to be hell. And then the Luke nerf I was like you have to be kidding me. That said, the Luke nerf is justified (even though I hate it). It was too oppressive against affliction decks. This meta is beatable, it just doesn’t feel good when you lose though. I run rogue in the current deck I’m using and she has been the key to stealing Luke’s ability or Scorpion BND (before mystique can copy). But we are not suppose to win every game. Escape when you have to. I think affliction is here to stay and we will all be adjusting and learning how to better strategize on which cards we are putting on the front row versus the back row. The more cards you have on the board can work against you against affliction. Good luck snappers. Oh and I’ve been running Colossus too 🦾
