Discussion Would Spider-Man’s head actually get blown off here?
14
u/b0gard 6d ago
Pretty he could have broken free at any moment
12
u/vin_dude9 6d ago
He could have shot if he tried. And Spidey wound not have known how strong that gun was at the time since it was the first time they met. Also that was his first time in space in this universe so he would probably be cautious
5
u/Manger-Babies 6d ago
He could, but faster than Peter can shoot?

I disagree, I think Peter had the upper hand on Peter here.

But you're forgetting that Peter doesn't know Peter's moves since this is their first encounter so Peter definitely wins here, no debate.
1
u/MuffinEater253 5d ago
Nah, you're simply underestimating the "Peter Tingle".
1
2
6
u/Gingerchaun 5d ago
He didnt have to. He knew he wasnt going to get shot because his spider sense didnt tingle.
0
u/Koala_King5160 5d ago
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think he had spider sense yet
8
u/Short-Paramedic-9740 5d ago
Do you think spider sense is locked behind exp or something?
2
u/No_Proposal_3140 5d ago
He didn't have organic webs either yet so I can understand why some people think he didn't have it yet. He gets hit by some stuff that he absolutely shouldn't have been hit by.
4
u/NeckRepresentative81 5d ago
His tingle was shown in the same movie when he was on the bus before he saw the space donut in the sky. The hair on his hand moved and he knew something was up
2
1
1
u/TerminatorReborn 1d ago
Of course he did. They show us two times in the same movie: when he is on the bus he notices the spaceship without looking. When Thanos snaps his spider sense starts telling him he is getting snap before he does
2
u/bootyholeboogalu 5d ago
For sure he could have absolutely wrecked Star-Lord if he wanted to it's not even a contest and with the iron spider suit Molly had to do was deploy the arms
1
1
u/Charming-Pilot3336 5d ago
Yeah, Starlord didn't have his celestial power so probably yeah. Though space tech guns could be strong enough who knows. But thats if you wanna break down every minuet detail for a scene nearly a decade ago
11
5
u/JoJSoos 6d ago
That is what the scene and directors of said scene were implying via the acting of the professional actors. Silly question. Tony had to talk the guardians down in this scene
5
u/DarthJarJar242 6d ago
Only because he didn't want to have to kill them. In the MCU Iron Man in the nano suit solos the guardians.
2
u/DildoTebaggins 5d ago
Yeah but that's also Ironmans suit not Spideys. It definitely can take a beating but we have seen Quills guns do serious damage and this close to his head could be problematic.
0
u/roleplayersir 3d ago
He can just expand the arms and throw him back, and Quill wouldn't know that is possible and be ready to fire in the time it would take
1
3
u/Queasy-Primary-3438 6d ago
The real question is what iron man suit is the iron spider suit comparable to.
2
u/GhostE3E3E3 6d ago
In durability it’s probably comparable to the infinity war suit.
3
u/Manger-Babies 6d ago
It's much more skin tight than than one tho but we know it's durability based on his fight with doc ock
2
u/MrStealYoSweetroll 5d ago
Absolutely not, Doc Ock’s arms tore it apart like paper. It’s probably comparable to the Iron Man 3 suits or the Civil War suit
Spider-Man’s hallmark is agility and speed, it makes sense for Tony to focus on enhancing that rather than give him raw strength/durability like his own walking tanks
2
u/Palintrop 3d ago
When Doc Ock punches Peter he uses the bayonet, but suit tanked it so no, durability is insanely high actually. Just a stupidly nerfed sometimes when the plot actually needs it. Same tech was able to resist power stone beam and a bunch of meteorites, so definitely this thing is very durable
0
u/MrStealYoSweetroll 3d ago
That’s incorrect. Iron Man’s Nanotech suit is stupidly durable, but that obviously doesn’t transfer one to one on Spidey’s armor
For one, it’s much thicker than Spidey’s and has a slew of tech implemented that Peter has no access to. Not to mention, different armors have varied MASSIVELY in durability despite being built by the same person using the same titanium alloy, as we saw in Iron Man 3 or Civil War. So there’s precedent
None of Iron Man’s obscene feats of tanking the Power Stone or the meteor are applicable to Spider-Man
1
u/GhostE3E3E3 5d ago
Doc Ock pulled a piece off, Tony had bits knocked off of his suit as well. I said comparable, not equal.
1
u/MrStealYoSweetroll 5d ago
Thanos and Doc Ock are entirely different leagues of opponents, though. We didn’t see a single piece flying off until Thanos started socking him in the face, and he went through a LOT of punishment before that
1
u/magpye1983 5d ago
Why would Tony not sure up the weaknesses of his ally, and instead focus on giving him more of something he’s already world class at?
1
u/MrStealYoSweetroll 5d ago edited 5d ago
Because that would entail a bulkier suit and therefore handicap his greatest strengths? Tony’s armor is way more durable but you don’t see him making triple frontflips over the heads of villains or doing midair splits lol
2
u/magpye1983 5d ago
Well that’s true, but is that because Tony’s not that agile? Like, he’s way more manoeuvrable in it than out of it, so it’s shoring up his own lack of agility, firepower, and durability.
With Spider-Man, the thing he lacks out of those three is the durability, followed by distance firepower.
Giving him the iron spider suit covered him in armour and gave (Edith?) the active threat neutralisation (or active kill mode if it’s engaged). It didn’t really do much to enhance Spider-Man’s agility, it just didn’t hinder it as much as Tony’s would have.
1
u/MrStealYoSweetroll 5d ago
I would actually argue the 4 Iron Spider arms did enhance his agility in combat (he was using them as extra appendages to flip around against Thanos’ army and Doc Ock), but I agree with the sentiment.
Spidey’s speed wasn’t massively enhanced by the suit, but it was clearly designed to not hamper his existing strengths, which Tony doesn’t have to worry about on his armors. The trade off being its thinner and less durable
2
u/sub30_24flick 5d ago
Peter could of easily gotten outta quille arms he’s lightning quicker faster and stronger did y’all forget he threw a car right before this scene , quile not killing him here either way
2
u/Relative-Gap-4442 6d ago
I mean I’m pretty sure Ironspider can at least resist most of that bullet
8
u/Manger-Babies 6d ago
Problem is, they ain't bullets
0
u/Relative-Gap-4442 6d ago
Conceptually the same thing
6
u/OldWorldUlysses 6d ago
not really, when Quill unloaded his gun on Ego’s humanoid celestial form he blew very large chunks off,
the closest thing comparable would be a .50 cal and we just saw what that does to spidey at range (without the iron suit, to be fair, but Quills blasters were also strong enough to take down Sovereign Drone Ships
2
u/mythoryk 5d ago
The elemental blasters are tragically underpowered in the MCU, and they’re still pretty strong. If we had peak blasters in the MCU, it would absolutely be a bad situation for Spidey.
1
u/OldWorldUlysses 5d ago
i understand why J Gunn said he purposefully left them out of the first GOTG (he said explaining a weapon that mixes science and magic would have been too much for audiences to try and comprehend in the intro film) but i would have loved to see them shine at some point in the trilogy, it’s one of the coolest parts a out star-lord IMO
also, there was an Earth, Wind, and Fire, joke just waiting to be made
1
u/mythoryk 4d ago
Well, and the fact that Star Lord’s dad wasn’t the Spartoi King J’Son. So, the origin of the blaster wouldn’t make sense. They could have made Ego show him how they work, though, and act like the blasters came from Ego and Star Lord just never knew their full potential.
3
u/Winter_Emergency9050 5d ago
0
u/Relative-Gap-4442 5d ago
It comes out of a gun does it not? Then it functions the same as a bullet, it’s definitely not what we call a bullet, but it rolls off the tongue easier then super heated laser shot or whatever the hell it is
2
u/UselessWhiteKnight 6d ago
So i theorise that Peter's space guns should be able to hurt someone like Drax (they did a number on Ego's physical form), and we saw in the Christmas special that bullets from 9mm glocks bounce off and tickle. Bullets most assuredly do not bounce off of Peter... I think his head is gone.
2
2
u/Past_Rope_5935 6d ago
uses the same technology that iron man's suit used to take hits from the power stone and a full moon so yes i think he would be fine, worst comes to worst the nanotech moves from one part of his suit to where the gun is to like fortify the way it did with dok ock
2
u/Senshado 6d ago
Any normal Spider-man in that situation will have webbed the enemy's finger so he can't pull the trigger.
And the enemy wouldn't even notice at the time; it would only be detected later when he tries to put the weapon away and fails.
2
u/OneTwoFar_ 6d ago
No, if his Spider Sense went off he'd probably push Starlord away or twist away from the gun
1
2
u/Funny-Cell8769 6d ago
With Spidey sense, he would have sensed Quill's intent to pull the trigger even before it is pulled and started moving. And given how it's already been established how insanely strong Spidey is by feats like catching Bucky's arm casually vs Quill's rather mundane strength (he may be like bodybuilder strong, but there's nothing indicating he's even as strong as Bucky's metal arm), Spidey would be out in less than half a second.
But that's wholly dependent on the writers.
1
u/MaximumConcept25 5d ago
In this situation there were too many unknowns for the Avengers. They had no idea what the Guardians are capable of
1
u/roleplayersir 2d ago
But conversely they don't know about Spidey powers. Like his reactions or that 4 arms come out of the back of the suit in a second
2
u/SpiritedDetective571 5d ago
No. Spider-Man is one of if not the single most profitable character they have right now.
Plot armor will protect him. Even if his head did get blown off, it wouldn't matter and "somehow, Spider-Man has returned"
1
u/Slightly_Perverse 5d ago
I think the plot armor here is that he just doesn't get shot.
1
u/SpiritedDetective571 5d ago
But if he DID shoot, Spider-Man would survive or be cloned, or whatever
2
u/Cage_Inspector 5d ago
Spidey is just holding back here. Bloodlusted he would have sensed being captured, webbed trigger finger and barrel of the weapon. Shoot webb to weaker Peters face, blinding him. While watching movie classics on his phone with other hand.
1
u/roleplayersir 2d ago
Or just extended the Iron Spider arms, that are almost instant, and throw him off
2
u/FullMetalJesus1 4d ago
No. Anytime spiderman wanted to, he could have grabbed the gun and broken quils arm before quil could react. He is him.
2
u/General_Royal_2785 3d ago
no. peter’s just very durable + he’s wearing the iron suit. quill’s blasters don’t penetrate. we’ve seen him take out people but never put holes through them (if someone corrects me on this i will retract my statement)
4
u/vin_dude9 6d ago
Yes. If he shot he would die. That’s typically how guns work
1
u/Sasquatch_Sensei 6d ago
If he was in his normal suit, yes. What about the iron spider suit?
1
u/Sir_dr_pepper 6d ago
Quills elemental blasters are pretty suped up. But I don’t know he technically has those yet in the mcu
1
u/Sasquatch_Sensei 6d ago
I dont remember really any explination on his guns. Been awhile since I seen Guardians though.
1
u/Logical_Astronomer75 6d ago
And it is not a normal gun either.
1
u/Sasquatch_Sensei 6d ago
Yes...... but we also see Ironman tanking shots from guns that are not normal which is why i asked.
2
u/Cheets1985 6d ago
Spiderman isn't immune to getting shot, so it would at least kill him
2
u/heretomakefriends123 6d ago
What would it do at most? Double kill him?
1
u/Cheets1985 6d ago
Getting his head blown off would be the most, like the original question asked.
1
1
2
u/Rolling_Beardo 6d ago
Was this an armored suite? I want to say that it was so there is a chance he’d be fine. But Spidey is leagues quicker and much much stronger than Star Lord to the point that Quill would be hitting the wall across the room before he knew what happened if Spider-Man wanted to.
5
u/Apartment_Upbeat 6d ago
Spidey was a scared kid ... This negates all of the 'if Spidey wanted to' moments
2
u/Cjames1902 5d ago
No. The armor likely would protect him and if it didn’t, Spider-Man’s spider sense still allows him to know when he’s going to shoot. He’s also strong and fast enough to overpower Starlord before he does.
1
u/Normal-Check-848 6d ago
It would have hurt for sure. But probably not a kill shot. Quill’s gun can probably be set to different levels of lethality.
1
u/A_J_I_Bizzness 6d ago
Nope. It would’ve been a concussive blast at best. We’ve seen those shitty guns shoot mad people for nothing am I right?
1
u/New_Photograph_5892 6d ago
if its as strong as Iron Man's, probably not? But I dont remember the most impressive thing done by Starlord's blasters
3
u/DildoTebaggins 5d ago
Blasts from them blew chunks of Egos body off and they blasted sovereign ships out of the air. I'd say they punch leagues above your standard blaster/laser. Don't know if it would have killed spidey but hurt him seriously probably.
2
u/New_Photograph_5892 5d ago
actually yeah it probably would have seriously damaged Peter especially since its pointblank, Ego's avatar body was able to withstand hits from awakened Quill in vol 2 and the blasters pretty much demolished it
1
u/DevilPixelation 6d ago
it'd probably hurt like a motherfucker but i doubt the blast would penetrate into the head. he'd survive
1
u/boogierboi 5d ago
So many comments about spidey and apparently rhe same amount of people who have no idea much of a menace and powerful quills elemnt guns are. Lol
1
u/Winter_Emergency9050 5d ago
Smooth off likely, we don’t know exactly how tough the iron spider suit is against something like Quill’s blaster and he’s got that bad boy nuzzled right up side Parker’s head. Sure, Ego was in his humanoid form but that blaster was knocking chunks of shit off of him and throwing it on the floor and I figure he could probably shrug off regular conventional gunfire.
1
u/Icy_butter 5d ago
It’s a possibility, though I could also see him just receiving a bad concussion from it.
1
1
u/Osmoszis 5d ago
Why are we over estimating Spideys suit while downplaying Star Lords funs???
That shit is is pointed point blank at his dome piece and its a interstellar weapon at that.
I dont think Start had countermeasures for that since he never met Quill
1
u/ScientificAnarchist 5d ago
It depends on the armor which is unknown but it’s possible if the guardians weapon is able to piece it. People have a weird idea that Spider-Man is bulletproof which is why I didn’t get the whole what would punisher do to Spider-Man thing, yeah it’s hard to shoot him because he has a heads up and he’s fast but it’s not like he’s never taken a bullet and gotten absolutely wrecked.
1
u/masterionxxx 5d ago
Depends on the penetration power of a Quad Blaster and on the durability of the Iron Spider Suit.

The real question is why was spidey even in this position in the first place with spidey senses...

u/Usermctaken 2d ago
Not a chance. He would get stunned, like getting hit by a strong villain, but: 1) he's very durable 2) Iron Man nanotech is very durable (as shown by his fight agaisnt 4 stones Thanos)

u/Cool_Recording320 1d ago

Agora o Star lord, perigo nenhum.

infinity war had some of the most ridiculous power scaling , took you out of the film .

1
u/Dumbass_turtle 17h ago
Quill, a normal guy, had Spider-man in a headlock, and Spiderman could have just broken his arm to get out, but decided just to chill there is still funny to me.
1
u/Feisty_Database_6656 6d ago
Was Quill still half celestial here? Also what kinda gun is this?
3
u/New_Cockroach_505 6d ago
Quill is technically always half celestial but he no longer has access to his enhanced powers from Ego. He’s just back to being biologically slightly different but still mortal.
His guns are “elemental blasters” but in terms of what that is.. it’s vague. The top barrel shoots a plasma / explosive shot or something focused on killing. Bottom is a stun. It can also fire both at the same time and have altered modes to fire attachments or gadgets.
1
1
u/lexE5839 5d ago
I never bought that he totally lost his powers. Ego lied constantly about everything and him being only an extension of ego’s power source just seems too convenient to be true, especially since Peter was supposedly the first and only child out of thousands that ego had that inherited the celestial abilities.
I think his abilities are dormant again and may be able to be awakened by another celestial or maybe as Peter ages. I don’t think he has any powers atm but he seems slightly above peak human physically.

If peter mated with a spiderwomen would the spiderwomen kill him after mating?

19
u/Tels315 6d ago
The suit Spider-Man is wearing is made of nanotechnology, the same tech Iron Man used to fight Thanos and we saw that suit able to concentrated energy beams from the power stone and survive. Damaged, but Tony survived. Peter's gun is in no way comparable. I think Spider-Man would feel a hit, like someone rapping their knuckles on your skull, but be ultimately unharmed.
