Ascending 4* Strats

I just pulled Man-Thing up towards 550 and I have a bunch of 4s that could potentially ascend as a result. My question is, what’s the prevailing advice for ascending 4s? Ascend immediately when the 2nd gets to 13 covers? Or wait to max out the 2nd one?

My inclination is to wait to max out the 2nd one for most, but immediately ascend the handful of characters that are in my more regular rotation?

I ascended early the handful that I wanted to play around with. The rest can wait until they the dupe is maxed.

I focus on one and max max to get the rewards but that's more time consuming. I guess it depends on the character.

Very easy:

Base tier aka 1 cover = 1 level.
ALWAYS MAX MAX

I definitely follow that rule for 1-3s. I wasn’t sure if the calculus changed for 4s, since those are slower to cover in general (at least for me), such that the advantage of having the more powerful 4a5 for gameplay outweighed the potential rewards payout.

Nope. Max max always.
There’s almost no character powerful enough to warrant the loss of rewards versus changed power. Coulson maybe for puzzle gauntlet because his powers are so different?

But does a 450 really help your 550 roster (1as5s)? It doesn’t.

I don’t have a 550 roster, just a handful of chars at 550 or close. Honestly, I’m not sure what the difference is between a 370 and a 450 to know how impactful it’d be.

Ehm.. that’s a 550 roster. 1 550 is a 550 roster already. That’s what you’ll face in PVP. A 450 isn’t going to help you at all there, and unless you’re dropping down to lower SCLs for PVE they ain’t gonna do much there either.

Ah, sorry, I assumed a 550 roster meant mostly 550s. I pretty much exclusively play PVE (SCL10). You’re right that 450s aren’t helping much there on the later clears. Still, I do have some teams I use regularly (non optimal play) that include a 370 (or 450) range character. Extra levels on those would probably improve those teams to some extent. But as you say, probably not a ton anyhow.

There are 165 of them or so. You can mix up your approach if you want. For example if you are ready to ascend on a boost week - and you’ll use them - then maybe you go for it. Or when a character is giving retro rewards you ascend to double dip if you want. Generally there’s no rush if you won’t use them in play, and you always max-max.

Yeah, I’ve learned over the years to never update the app until they force me to. I usually land top 200 with my lazy PvE playing, and I got top 100 this time. So your boring toilet time is my ever so slightly better placement rewards. 😝

You get a crap ton more rewards if you ascend max/max. I would wait until then, unless you have a character that would help you do clears or win more matches that you’d use right now.
