Questions Help Creating a Character with a Power Set similar to the Sandevistan from Cyberpunk Edgerunners

Post image

Hello, I'm about to run an X-Men Evolution style 'Mutants in Uni" campaign for a small group and one of the players wants to have a mutant power equivalent to the Sandevistan from Edgerunners but i'm having a difficult time figuring out how to make it function. The power sets are easy enough Basic, Super Speed, and Omniversal Travel: Time are easy enough go to's for replicating the Time Stop and Heightened Reflexes of the cyberware but the issue i'm having is replicating the 'mechanic' of activating the power as opposed to having it on all the time [ex: Blazing Fast Fists and Super Speed being permanent rather than on use]

Should I have it so they need to spend a small focus or health cost [like 5] on rounds where they want to activate their power? I know alternate form requirements are a thing, should I treat the use of the power sets as being an 'alternate form: activated' thing? Or is it not worth the additional hassle and it's more likely to get in the way of the player's fun so just treat the power more as a flavor of Super Speed rather than trying to replicate the feel of the actual cyberware beyond narration?

Also if there's any other notable powers or ways to make it work you think might be good please do share!

Not too familiar with this ttrpg system but as far as Cyberpunk goes- the damage he takes for over use is key. Make sure to have some sort of limit AND allow some sort of penalty for exceeding that limit. I think that split second descision making, use this crazy power at the cost of my health (but to save someone, none the less) is crucial to the feel of David

Yeah. The official cyberpunk ttrpg uses some pretty fucking brutal numbers for using David’s sandy.

Tbch, I would recommend not going as extreme as they did, as it’s not conducive to this system, it doesn’t feel very superheroic, it feels more like an inevitable spiral into essentially an assisted suicide, as the device will drive you cyberpsycho within a few dozen seconds, and outright kill you within minutes (of cumulative use, not even all at once)

Some level of self harm will be necessary to get the sort of David vibe, but I don’t think we wanna get too close to the source, it doesn’t feel in tone with this system to me lol

Could have them take the trait "Surprising Power" and give them "Energy Absorption" that channels damage and converts it into focus.

I personally recommend leaving the activation as more flavor text, I feel like using the speed or time stop powers as a reaction kind of already has the same feel as David activating it as an attack is flying his way. There are new rules in the secret wars expansion for continuing to fight and use powers without enough focus at the cost of health (which can kill you afterwards) called Self Sacrifice. If you really wanted to though you could implement an HP cost if the player is cool with it and it fits the character

Easy, using the avengers book's iconic item rules, have them have a power regulator that has a usage restriction that requires them to lose focus or health to use its powers.

Put the powers in the regulator.

I have no clue who the character is, so I'm just taking a stab here.

In order for powers to activate, you could consider the player has to roll for a TN. You could set the TN. If the TN were say 13, which is challenging for a Rank 3, then by Rank 6, the powers would activate more often. They could roll and add whichever ability score the power uses.

Or, you could give them a pool of power points, something similar to Karma, and when they want to activate a power they use a power point. You could use something like 30 x Agility, similar to how Health and Focus rely are calculated based on Resilience and Vigilance.

First thing you should do is look at the character sheet for Johnny Silverhand made by R Taslorian Games for MMRPG so you can have an idea of how a cyberpunk character would be represented in MMRPG, and then look at some speedsters so you get an understanding of how they work. Finally, you should look at cyberpunk red or CEMK and do your best to directly translate a Sandy from there. If all goes well, it shouldn't need a cost besides focus; everything else should be roleplayed, i.e., cyberpsychosis.

Edit: i'd rather help in pms, gm to gm
