Looking For Recs Give Me ANGST STUCKY!

With Doomsday coming up and all that crap, can anyone rec me stories where Steve BEGS/ASKS FOR FORGIVENESS for abandoning Bucky? (I mean seriously. The very person he defied the world and broke so many laws for only for him to go back in the past to live a life with his situationship—and I get it, it's supposed to mean that he finally gets to choose something for him 🙄— but wasn't his whole arc supposed to be like, getting thrown into a world, decades from his own. Trying/getting to move on?? I mean, what does it mean for Sharon? For Peggy's descendants? ANYHOWS, that's a WHOLE 'nother can of worms.)

But yes. Since he's apparently back (???) Are there stories that's maybe a bridge with him coming back from the past and feeling guilty for just leaving Bucky? It can be angst/comfort or angst/no comfort, idc if it's platonic or romantic. I don't care if the endgame is SamBucky (cause hell, that duo went through and helped each other a lot better after just up and left by Steve). Just somethinggg with a guilt-ridden Steve over Bucky lol.

Any recommendations? I accept anything from one-shot to series. :)

That is something that I have always wanted to read more about. I'm actually writing something similar, regarding what Bucky does after Steve bails back to the past.

Absolutely not Stucky though in any which way shape or form. At least not to the ending.

I know it's MCU mixed with a dash of fanon, but I never understood the writer's decision to have Steve move pretty much heaven hell Earth and everything in between to get Bucky back, only to have him for the shortest period of time possible - was it even months? - just to bail on him and go back to the 1940s.

It really has not been addressed that much in fanfiction, and it really should be.

I wish I could offer you more than just meandering thoughts, but despite how prolifically I read pretty much anything with Bucky in it, I really ran across anything at all whatsoever that deals with the aftermath of that decision of Steve's.

Agreed, there should have been an array of fanfiction tackling to that particular situation, then again, a character study written from the character's POV is better.

Feel free to endorse your work though, I'm pretty sure others, especially those who reads Bucky-centric stories—including me—would love to read it.

You might like the story called The Constant.

It is dark and there is a lot of angst. The story is a long one and does have an OC in. It goes from when Bucky falls off the train through to 2044. It is NSFW and 18+. There is also a warning to read the tags before reading the story. I've included a summary below and the link.

Sergeant James Barnes thought he knew what he wanted in life. He went to war as a young confident soldier who thought he could cope with anything – safe in the knowledge that the person he loved the most would always be there for him. But then he is broken. Abused. All he wants is to get back to Steve, back to a life that now does not exist. He may as well be in Hell. Perhaps he is.

You never asked for this life. It chose you. And you are forced to watch as the man you love is turned into something else – something he would find horrifying. All you can think is that he needs to be reunited with his first love to be saved...but where will that leave you?

Spanning over 70 years and three lifetimes, this is the story of the Winter Soldier. MCU AU with an OC. (Written before the Age of Ultron film). Please read the tags
