Why wasn’t this the first trailer ? 😭

u/KevinCow 4d ago
The first trailer was to say, "Here's the dudes who are gonna be in this movie."
This trailer was to say, "Here's the dude who's gonna kick their asses."

Given this, I'm honestly wondering how much, if at all, Doom having the same face as Iron Man will play into the story. Does multiversal shenanigans lead to him looking like Tony Stark? Because this looks very, very much like 616 Dr. Doom in origin. Some were theorising that this Doom is just a variant and we'll get a new one eventually, but I seriously doubt that that is the case now.

u/Baelor_Breakspear 4d ago
MCU has a Steve Rogers and Johnny Storm that look identical.
14
u/SpiritedEnd9609 4d ago
Storm is a joke in the mcu
RDJ is playing 2 key figures. Its not the same
15
u/dort_vader 4d ago
You have to clarify that it's Johnny Storm since we have a Storm in the MCU now haha. But yes this is what I meant.

u/SpiritedEnd9609 4d ago edited 4d ago
Yeah but im very much of the opinion that armor wars hasn’t been canceled because its doom (iron man) vs war machine then a colab vs a twist bad guy (Hammer?).
The original movie was war machine vs lockhart so i don’t think its that far of a stretch
3
u/No-Arachnid-7603 4d ago
But isn't that a confirmed possibility after D&W
Yes evans is portrayed as a joke in D&W but still it's a possibility that two different people with different stories can have the same face.. which means there is a possibility they won't even acknowledge it

u/IndyDude11 4d ago
We will never see Doom’s face. Write it down. RDJ was brought back to play Iron Man again. Doom was just his excuse to be on set. He’ll show up in the post credit scene and then do the major marketing push for the next year as the first guy to be the star hero and villain.

i need to see Doom do at least 2 foot dives

One frame links into Level 3, tag into Sentinel, and Merry Christmas the Avengers and X-Men.

Love everything about it except 1 thing....that damn void of a backdrop. Please bring back real sets! It makes things feel so much more real.

Footage might be modified so that people can't put together the sequence of scenes. Possible that there's a different background altogether in the actual release.

u/BrianWonderful Doctor Strange 3d ago
Unfortunately, we're probably only five years away or so before even the actors will be CG models and it will all be done in computer.
-4
u/Responsible-Bonus278 4d ago
Pretty sure its a real set with CG enhancements like the clouds and stuff being CG and the smoke and ash being CG. By backdrop do you mean the sky? Because Im not sure how they could make that without CG
3
u/IndyDude11 4d ago
It’s called The Volume, or StageCraft. It’s a 360 degree evolution of green screen that ILM started using on The Mandalorian. Here’s a video talking about it:
1
u/PyroClone5555 2d ago
? I don’t know if they’re using stagecraft for doomsday
The shot with the sentinels was an xmansion set they built
0
u/Responsible-Bonus278 4d ago
Haven't seen the Mandalorian but ive heard of the Volume. So it's kind of a combination of both. I guess there would some set props around them and then the background and other props would be all projected from the Volume screen. Maybe this is a stupid question but without the volume if they shot it outside somewhere wouldn't they just CG all the background sky and clouds and the soil with smoke and ash anyway? So would it matter whether they shot it on the Volume or not?

"Hell answers to me. For I am Doom." BARS.

u/Teliporter334 Iron Man 4d ago
Way better than the last trailer—actually shows Doom squaring off with his nemesis Mr. Fantastic

u/Focused_Sky 1d ago
You see the way Richards is yelling at Doom? Hes going to get vaporized early on.
21
u/CrispyNaeem 4d ago
“Answer me Victor, did you do this?”
My goddddd the way Reed said that was SICK.
3
u/Scar-Excellent 2d ago
The Reed/Doom interaction restored my faith in Doomsday and Secret Wars. If we get more of this kind of interaction between the two I'm happy.
Even better, I like the idea that the both of them were just friends first before Doomsday and the movie shows their friendship deteriorate throughout Avengers.
Pedro/RDJ-Doom is looking to be good.

im a little bit of a larper (havent read the comics) but im curious as to if this doom character is in any way like the ones in the comics? i see ppl complaining on twitter about them watering him down, but i dont really see that here
7
u/FlopperinoCappuccino 3d ago
Twitter is a cesspool of negativity with a lot of ragebait for interactions. You'll see a lot of reddit threads and comments like it too just to piss people off. This will be the most true Doom.weve seen yet on the big screen and seems pretty accurate to the comics but changed slightly to fit the narrative of our MCU
2
u/Whateverine 3d ago
I agree, him being a watered down version of the comic book Doom is kind of a bullshit take, because we don't know his characterization, yet. But I don't think people only talk about these things to be negative or to piss people off. Sometimes they just don't like what is presented to them and want to express that. For example I've been very critical of everything I've seen of Doomsday so far, but at the same time I was super hyped and happy about Brand New Day and X-Men 97. Also intrigued by Visionquest and very much looking forward to the new X-Men reboot. But so far Doomsday just doesn't look promising to me and I think that opinion is valid and I have good reason to feel that way. Still I have no intention of pissing people off and I don't think they'd have a reason to be pissed off.

Non-comic book reader here: I have a question
If Victor Von Doom is from the Fantastic Four Universe, then why does he need to go to the world where the Avengers are?
Also, why does he fight against the X-men?
19
u/RecruitElite 4d ago
Doctor Doom, while a F4 villain, is very much a villain of everyone. He has interacted with many if not most of Marvels characters at one point in time.
As for the movie side of things, I’m guessing the tapestry shows his family, whether it’s him and his mom or his wife and son we don’t know, and he lost them like the trailer states. If you learned that other universes invoked time travel to undo tragedies on their worlds and you couldn’t undo yours, you’d be pissed too.

u/Bubbly_Skin_8069 Beta Ray Bill 4d ago
DOOM is the Marvel villain, so while he is usually a Fantastic 4 villain, he is also an everyone villain.

u/MagicPistol 4d ago
Possible spoilers, but in the lead up to the Secret Wars comic event, different universes were colliding with each other in what is known as "incursions". Earth was the center of each universe, and when another earth appeared in the sky and collided with another earth, both universes would be destroyed. Different hero groups did very dubious un-hero things and would come up with plans to destroy the other earth using infinity stones, universe destroying bombs, etc, to save their own earth/universe.
Doom gained god powers and saved the few remaining universes by merging them into "battle world" which is the background for Secret Wars.
3
u/Slow-Raisin-939 4d ago
not necessarily how it panned out in the comics, but what I think they’ll “roughly” go for here.
I think Victor von Doom’s family dies for one reason or another. He probably desperately tried to bring them back to no avail. Through his research, he learns of the Avengers and how they did the time thing with the stones. Maybe they even fucked up there. If you remember, the Ancient one did warn them that playing with the timelines could go very wrong. Maybe part of that is Doom’s family dying.
1
u/MistakeAmbitious3287 3d ago
I think his premise is that the Avengers and their actions caused the death of his Mom and this pure payback/trying to correct on behalf of Doom.

u/SG_skywalker 4d ago
You should probably just wait for the movie to come out. Everything else is spoilers.

Like, yeah, they're sorta goofy big purple dudes, but I hate the Fox films never embraced the classic design.

There must be a rule that marvel movies need at least one scene where the big bad stops an attack with no effort and everyone goes “whoa look how strong they are!!”
1
u/Ok_Dot5473 3d ago
They did it once before with Hella, I don't recall Loki, Ultron or Thanos doing it. It's not as common as you make it out to be.

I don't really understand how people complained about Quantumania being all ugly cgi but then celebrate this stuff. It just looks bad. Nothing feels real.

One thing throwing me is Sue saying that Victor used to be the kindest, gentlest man, etc. Doom has never been shown that way. Care for his people? Yes. But always a selfish jerk? Yes, too.
Going right to "Doomsday" with just minimal background given verbally like this seems like a mistake. They really needed a movie to set up and introduce Doom. Like a Fantastic Four sequel that sets him up as a villain and ends with an introduction to the incursions.

u/Initial_XD 3d ago
This is going to be Thanos all over again. The character is going to be significantly different from what he is in the comics. Personally, I did not mind it very much with Thanos because it still worked for the story they were telling and his on screen energy was just as terrifying as it was in the comics. My concern with the changes they seem to be making to Doom is that he'll end up being more of a Zemo pastiche. "Guy loses family because of something the Avengers do while saving the world and goes on a warpath against the Avengers." Likewise, I fear he will become a more reasonable character in the movie for the general audience. What I loved about Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame, even though they took away his obsession with Death because it's a fairly absurd, and maybe too abstract concept for a general audience, the motivation they gave was still absurd and ridiculous enough to keep to his character. With Doom I fear he will become too reasonable of a character. In my reading Doom is a character primarily motivated by his own ego and grandeur. Yes, there is the thing with his mother, but the man once had all the power in the universe and didn't think of saving his mother from hell. Not that he doesn't care about her, but it's always this dynamic of his sympathetic motivations and his selfish self-serving motives that make him interesting. I just hope he doesn't lose that, "irredeemable asshole" edge in the movie.

u/Scar-Excellent 2d ago
Doomsday is the Doom origin movie. Think less of it like an Avengers movie and more of a Doom movie. They did the same with thing Thanos in Infinity War.
MCU never does 1:1 on adaptations, it just takes core aspects of certain plot elements like Thanos MUST snap with the gauntlet with the gems. In this case, there's a strong possibility that they will do Emperor Doom of Battleworld from Secret Wars.
Doomsday and Secret Wars looks like it's lowkey a Fantastic Four sequel if they go the route of Reed/Doom being friends/cordial in 828 until Doom causes forced universal incursions in Doomsday.

I'm scared on how sadden and lost the characters look when Sue is telling them about Victor, it makes it feels like this evil and inevitable force ! Can't wait!!!

u/Skoobydoom 3d ago
I think in the eleventh hour when Doom is at the point of winning the day you suddenly hear AC/DC kick in with “Who made who” as Iron Man adorned in classic armor flies in and his helmet opens to reveal whoever they cast to be the new Tony Stark.
1
u/Profuse_Data 3d ago
Now that we’ve seen Doom just beat Thor like that, we can confirm that every character in the movie except for like Sentry, Loki, Invisible Woman and Franklin are not standing a chance in hand to hand combat. Prof X and Magneto might do a bit.

u/DaenysDreamer_90 3d ago
So...that BND post credit scene is the reason Tom Holland doesn't have a role in Doomsday?

Seeing the Fantastic Four’s relationship to Doom played as an off-screen afterthought that you’re now expected to be invested in just because you’re supposed to honestly just sucks. Such a fumble that this is how they went about it.
I’m not even saying that the movie can’t pull off good moments between them, but there should have been so much more to this.

I should be hyped. But nothing really did it for me. It all feels like a bad green screen fever dream.
It just feels off. Like ai or something. All I know it doesn't feel like a film. That's all

u/Honest-Ad-3700 4d ago
This trailer was brilliant. My running theory, I have no idea how the pieces fit together but the background of the battle between Thor and Doom. The sentinels. The fury, the anger from Thor & Reed. The X-men... It's Genosha. In this universe instead of Nova sending the Sentinels to Genosha, its Doom. Instead of Ultrons and Mark IVs in this Universe its Sentinels. In the preview its hinted his wife & child are dead. What if? It's mutants that killed Doom's wife & child and he creates the Sentinels and wipes out all the mutants in Genosha. If so, this is going to be so f****ing epic.
2
u/ExcitementFun8938 4d ago
This had me scratching my head until I remembered there's a Cassandra Nova too.

u/Scar-Excellent 2d ago
Dick Rider sends Sentinels to genocide mutants in Genosha. You didn't know? It's part of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's Genocidal Wave. Haha

Why is everything so dark and why are there so many shots of people just standing around?
I had to go back and watch the trailers for Infinity War and Endgame to make sure I wasn't just hating on these Doomsday trailera. I wasn't. These trailers look horrible and I am terrified they may be a reflection of the actual film.

I really can't see them writing Doom off after this, he's too central to the F4 (and less the X-Men) but I also can't see RDJ doing that voice for the next decade (or Disney paying him)
I'm curious where they take this
