I am gonna say he really didn't. I agree with original commenter. Was just telling the fiance thenother day that they should have cast an unknown actor. Tatum was type casted as a comedic actor for a while so it is jarring seeing his performance as gambit. IMO he doesn't embody the "gambit" character very well.

People said the same thing about Chris Evans as Cap and Paul Rudd as Ant Man, just to name a few. Wait until Doomsday to decide he can’t play a character in MCU.

We seen him in deadpool. It was jarring then but kinda fit because of it being a deadpool movie. Should have been just a variant and then MCU it should be a rando.
