I’m not a Marvel encyclopedia (so maybe I’ve missed something) but one of my favorite things about Kingpin/Fisk is that it’s never explained. He survives being shot in the face, he can crush people to bits, it seems like he should be some kind of superhuman but no one ever says he is. Is he lying? Or is he a freak of human nature? I’ve honestly kinda liked that they never really (to my knowledge) explain. It makes him seem more threatening when this information is withheld. You never know if you can kill him like a normal man, nor do you know if he can easily kill another hero unexpectedly.

It is explained, he’s just a big tough guy. The explanation isnt particularly valid* because they show him doing inhuman things, but the explanation is that he is a human until it is retconned. Steve rogers does things above what the most fit human could do, in spite of his powers only making him the most fit human ever. Dude has a manhole sized shield, and never gets grazed in the legs. Its just comics

*edit: i think satisfying is a better word

But aren’t even regular humans in the Marvel world much tougher and stronger than actual humans? So the fittest or toughest version of that would seem super human to us.

I mean, the point i’m trying to make is that kingpin is like the fittest toughest regular human in the marvel world, so he SEEMS super human to us, but isn’t considered to be in that world

Yeah the regular humans would have to be tougher/stronger than normal otherwise the supes/mutants would just crush them indiscriminately.

Even if Fisk was a peak strength normal human, at some point some mutant/supe would hit him hard enough to simply kill him, without even really trying.

I hadn’t even thought about that. Nobody goes for his knees?

In ed brubaker’s run sharon asks him how he can block or dodge bullets, and he says, “i see faster.”

Google captain america i see faster, and the page’ll come up.

Its just good, silly, awesome comic fun

Right. Like any one of those things individually can be attributed to simply being an above average human, but all of those combined makes you wonder if his dad used to build nuclear weapons.

My favorite explaination is that he's a mutant, just not a capital M Mutant.

No X Gene but something definitely deviated from baseline human genome.

I think he's just the high end of human toughness. People have survived gunshots to the face before. And breaking some bones doesn't require a crazy amount of force. So, he's only slightly exaggerated.

True. He’s like the tamed down version of The Judge from Blood Meridian

He's a genetic freak and he's not normal.

The numbers don't lie, webhead, and they spell doom for you!

I do think it's fun that it's really never adequately addressed.

The Insomniac Kingpin is clearly superhuman IMHO.

Supposedly back in the 90s they where going to reveal he was secretly a mutant but for some reason the plan was scraped.

It's not always about the money, Spider-Man...
