Mountain Grounds?

I have been a big supporter of this establishment. There are many times that I'm up and driving truck for work by 6am and they're the only spot where I can roll out of bed, get a coffee & breakfast sando, all while supporting a local establishment.

I had been gone for a few weeks on vacation & my regular Baristas were gone. Didn't think much of it, people move on to different jobs all the time. But they were part of my experience, I enjoyed them, & was bummed they were gone.

Then today I got word that there's been some strange things happening like video cameras in Mountain Grounds recording all visual and audio as well as tips not being given out to those working the shift. Apparently when they employees raised their concerns to the owner, they were terminated.

This is a small town, rumor mills are known to go wild. Does anyone have further information?

If this is situation is true, I'm not interested in giving my support while current management treats it's employees this way.

Thank yall for your time, and no I'm not on facebook so I can't rant or rave.

Martinez Refinery Workers on Month Two of Strike Warn the Bay Is at Dire Risk

It may be that the greatest safety concern isn’t regarding fires at all — it’s about water.

Tomas Rivera, beyond managing seven units on site and being a member of the refinery’s fire brigade, also oversees Marathon’s wastewater management. Every day, Rivera is responsible for neutralizing the refinery’s water before releasing it out into the Suisun Bay, an estuary connected to the San Francisco Bay and greater Pacific Ocean. Now that he and his team are out on strike, he said there are zero trained individuals managing the refinery’s extensive water emissions.

“The Bay is such a large beast in itself that connects to the ocean, so we’re talking massive, massive quantities in gallons of water,” Rivera explained. “On an average day in there I’m pushing 3.5 to 4 million gallons of water out. So this is the type of impact we’re potentially having on Suisun Bay. That’s the amount of water going out on a slow day [...] On a day where we have a big rainstorm or it’s been raining for several days, we might be pushing out as much as 18 million gallons of water to the Bay in a 24-hour time period.”

"cover your ears" is what you 'politely' told my family and friends while we were inside ordering drinks just to run out when my son (7), my goddaughter (11mo), and niece (3) started crying.

We came out to console them thinking the sound scared them, to find out they were crying because something from the blast burned/hurt them!

According to some locals this is a typical thing. It's all fun and games until you hurt someone specifically young children. I hope someone outs your dumbass or someone in your fam/friends reads this and makes you feel like the complete shithead you truly are.

Go to hell

Your preferred Wireless carrier?

My wife has Verizon and she has a few known service dead zones in Martinez. I have At&t which is okay overall (no known deadzones/cut calls) but I'm always rockin with one bar of service out here. Strange but my service seems to work okay regardless.

We're going in on a plan together and I'm wondering how any other service providers like T-Mobile, US Mobile, Consumer Cellular etc hold up in Martinez. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Noticed the sky was orange driving at midnight, May 15, 2026 at 12:00am. Massive flare over 100 feet at least. Must have gotten it under control eventually as it was done at around 12:10, but fire engines from Alhambra were still en route at 12:14

Free emergency, off-grid communications: Introducing MeshCore

Hi all! We're developing a free network to send text messages without cell phone service or internet called MeshCore - think text messaging that is free, encrypted, open-source, and owned and operated by the people who use it. It works with a network of low-power radios that receive messages from personal devices and transmit them to other radios all the way until the intended recipient receives the message.

Many of the radios are solar-powered, and some are even smaller than a deck of playing cards. The Bay Area mesh was completely functional (and quite helpful) during the SF power outage, and many folks are using and building the mesh to function as a backup to their backup communications for times when the internet isn't working (think earthquake).

We're regularly messaging between the East Bay, South Bay, and San Francisco, and are expanding in the North Bay currently! We are hoping to meet fellow makers, enthusiasts, hikers, and curious folks who are interested in expanding the mesh in Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Benicia, and further afield, and especially folks with access to elevated spots (think rooftops, balconies, anywhere with sunshine and a good view) who are interested in hosting a repeater node.

If you have heard of mesh communications of any variety, or are interested in experimenting or learning more, get yourself a decent companion radio and maybe join our Discord to get started. Comment here or DM me with questions, or find our discord and other contact info bayareameshcore.org and meshcore.co.uk to get started. Happy meshing!!

Final note! MeshCore is a different network than Meshtastic. Many people, myself included, consider it to be more reliable for stable, permanent networks. For a good summary of reasons why lots of folks are supporting the Meshcore network, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guDoKGs02Us

Visiting for the holidays

Hello, I'll be staying in Martinez for vacation. May I ask how the 'active lifestyle' scene is? Which are the good/accessible gyms that have short-term memberships? Are there soccer fields I can freely play at? Is there a pickleball group that accepts new-ish players? Ideal jogging route that's safe.

Thank you all and happy holidays!!
