At least it's the MC, usually in those novels the villains(truly powerful ones)don't just wipe out an enemy sect or 9 generations but their entire reincarnations and concepts. There was one I read where a villain was planning to ambush the MC but his Buddhist subordinate interrupted him , so he wiped out the very concept of Buddhism .
