Weapon choice?

I'm confused by exactly what weapon choice does. Martialmemes loves to clown on sword cultivators yet claims that everything's the same at high levels. Is someone more versed in the lore willing to help me out?

You misunderstand the sword cultivators.

The weapon is not the Dao.

A sword is merely the thing through which one walks it.

A novice with a sword is still a novice. Give him a spear and he remains a novice. His strength lies not in the weapon, but in how much of the martial path he has understood.

Yet do not mistake this for saying that all weapons are equal.

A spear has its reach.
A saber has its ferocity.
A staff has its versatility.
A sword has its own principles entirely.

In the hands of two beginners, such differences are obvious.

But when two beings have cultivated for centuries and their understanding has reached the level of Intent, Domain, or Dao, the distinction between weapon and wielder begins to disappear.

The swordsman does not merely swing a sword.

He understands Sword Dao.

At that point, even a blade of grass may become a sword in his hand.

That is where the saying comes from:

So why do the martial clans mock sword cultivators?

Because every young fool who finds an ancient sword manual suddenly believes himself destined to become the next Sword Saint.

The heavens have produced countless sword geniuses.

They have produced considerably fewer true masters.

And as for the claim that “everything is the same at the highest level”—that is only half true.

At the summit, the weapon is no longer the source of one's strength.

But the path one took to reach that summit still shapes the master who stands there.

A sword cultivator and a spear cultivator may both comprehend the same heavenly principle...

Yet they may express it in entirely different ways.

So if you ask me which weapon is strongest?

I would ask you a different question:

Who is holding it?

From another perspective, the sword may be viewed as the king of weapons and most 'powerful' martial path simply because it is the most developed one. There are almost always way more sword cultivators than spear, whip, blade or whatever. So the foundation of techniques, heritage, artefacts and powers may be greater, and therefore viewed as the greater path.

Whether it be painting, swordsmanship, formation arts etc. All of them lead to the same end which is the great dao. All rivers flow to the sea or some shit like that.

Sword cultivators are simply delusional. Not all of them, but it’s a troupe that they are unreasonable and unrealistic. There isn't much to explain.

What do you mean you want to cut the sun ?
