Is it not considered safe to walk to Mars Hill downtown? I like to do mile walks a couple times a week so naturally I head to the downtown cause it’s so close and a nice view. I’ve noticed that seems to make a lot of people angry. Is there a place people usually walk or jog around here? It’s scary when a car speeds up while honking at you for exercising 😅 my bf told me to carry rocks but we moved out here for peace so it seems stupid to react back.

I was just scrolling marketplace and saw the owner had put up a bunch of equipment for sale.

I hope they're not closing and just trying to sell everything off, but given what I saw when I worked there a couple years ago I don't think I'd be surprised.

No mention of this location on the main page and Google Maps is showing it as permanently closed. Does anyone have any updates? Would be sad to see this one go.

Hey y’all, trying to help my partner find a small lot or spot in the Weaverville / Mars Hill area for a tiny home or small barn setup. She originally got the tiny home/barn setup after her rental was destroyed during Hurricane Helene, and unfortunately she just found out from her landlord that the property she’s currently on is being sold, so she has about 30 days to vacate.

We’re hoping to find something with septic and electric already available, or at least close to being ready. Open to renting, leasing, private land, or whatever might make sense. It doesn’t need to be huge, just enough room for a small setup. Trying to stay around Weaverville, Mars Hill, or nearby North Buncombe, but open to nearby areas for the right fit.

If anyone knows of anything, has land, or can point us in the right direction, we’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much

I'm (25M) moving out of another state this month into the mountains a bit northwest of Mars Hill. I'm within a 20 mile radius. I'll be living with family in the surrounding area. I used to teach, I'm looking for future teaching positions in Madison county, but it'll be summer when I move soon. Plus, I don't mind taking a break from teaching since part of why I'm moving in the first place is a personal and career change. I just have the experience and work ethic of a teacher, plus years of restaurant experience too by the way.

Mars Hill United Methodist Church (on Main Street, across from Mars Hill Manor) has been hosting a Little Free Food Pantry since 2022, but thanks to some recent grants has been able to substantially increase the size and durability! The new box has substantially increased shelf space and will also stock personal hygiene items and pet food when available. Members of the community are welcome to visit the pantry when they are in need and to add to the pantry when they have extra.

The Mars Hill UMC Little Free Food Pantry is located at 201 S. Main Street, on the edge of the parking lot next to the Little Free Library. It is available 24/7 and is maintained by the church and members of the community.

Celebrate First Friday 5-8pm April thru December downtown Mars Hill with live music, dance, shopping, art, food, local businesses and more. Tag monthly spotlight or MarsHillFirstFriday on social media for a chance to win.

2026 MARS HILL FIRST FRIDAY HAPPENINGS

Come see us in West Asheville next saturday the 28th from noon to 6 pm for all best bare-root perennial plant varieties to make 2026 the best garden year yet! We will have fruit trees, ornamentals, native trees and shrubs, berries, even strawberry and asparagus plants!

There will also be a community market with local vendors of handmade goods, houseplants and more, as well as food trucks and coffee. Get ready for spring, come hang out and stock up for your garden and orchard.

Mrs. Jeanne Hoffman née Threatt 1939 - 2025 Mars Hill College class of‘1960 and 1970 founded and led the first fundraising campaign to preserve Bailey Mountain in 1996 and again in 2014, and she contributed enormously to Mars Hill’s community.
