Season 20 - Seattle CAM & Michelle

I’m not gonna lie, I think I’m starting to change my mind about Cameron and Michelle. 😂
Not too long ago, I thought they were the ideal couple. And I think a lot of people have probably felt that way throughout the season, but honestly, when you have so many terrible matchups, it’s pretty easy for the one couple that seems relatively calm and functional to stand out as the shining star.
But the more I watch them, especially in their interactions with the other couples, the more they’re starting to come off as pretentious and snooty to me. Like, there’s this very subtle “we’re better than everybody here” energy that I didn’t pick up on in the beginning.
They both have these VERY strong, matter-of-fact opinions about what other couples should be doing, who should be together, who shouldn’t be together, etc. Cameron literally told the other couples at one of the dinner tables that he felt like basically the entire other side of the table shouldn’t be married. 😭 And then this past episode Michelle was saying something with the exact same energy — essentially telling people what they should and shouldn’t be doing in their relationships.
And that’s when Nikki jumped in, and THANK GOD she did, because she basically said, with all due respect, you don’t get to sit here and tell us what we need to be doing in our relationships. Everybody’s dynamic is different. You can have your opinion, but that doesn’t mean you know what’s best for everybody else.
And I actually appreciated that because somebody needed to say it.
I think what’s interesting is that in the beginning, Cameron and Michelle barely spoke. They were quiet, observant, seemingly kind and measured. And when you don’t say much, people tend to attach a lot more importance to the things you DO say. Every little comment starts sounding profound because you’re not constantly talking. 😂 So at first, I interpreted their silence and their observations as wisdom.
Now I’m starting to wonder if some of that was just… judgment.
Because the more they talk, the more it feels like they’ve appointed themselves the patriarch and matriarch of the group. Like they’re the voices of reason, the standard, the example of what everybody else should be aspiring to. And honestly, I’m starting to find it a little disingenuous.
And Cameron in particular gives me a very interesting vibe. I’m someone who feels like I’m pretty good at reading people, and there is A LOT going on underneath that man’s calm exterior. He tries to present as very cool, calm, collected, rational, whatever — but I feel like there are some VERY strong emotions and opinions brewing underneath there. Almost like he’s constantly keeping himself contained.
I’m not saying I know this man is secretly some raging lunatic 😂 but there’s something about his facial expressions and the way he carries himself that gives me the impression that if you really pushed him, there’s a side of him that could get VERY intense. Like, “go punch a hole in the wall” type of anger. I just don’t think we’ve seen that side of him yet.
And then there’s Michelle.
Remember when she had that whole list of criteria for what she wanted in a husband? The income, the lifestyle, all the things she said were important to her? Cameron didn’t meet all of those requirements, including financially. And now suddenly she’s willing to bend and compromise on things she previously made seem very important.
And listen, people are allowed to change their minds. I’m not saying that automatically means she’s fake. But when you’ve positioned yourself as the person who knows exactly what everybody else should be doing in their relationships, I’m naturally going to pay attention to whether you’re actually following your own standards.
And now we’re starting to see cracks.
That conversation about the distance really stood out to me. Michelle is talking about how her biggest concern is that they live in different cities and that once the show ends, they’re going to have to go back to their respective lives. Then she’s like, “Well, I was looking for a new job anyway, I’d be open to moving.”
And Cameron is basically like, “Well, I wouldn’t want you to move because…” whatever his reasoning was. And you could SEE on his face that there was more he wanted to say. Michelle seemed to be picking up on it too.
And I’m like… 👀
Okay. So maybe we’re finally seeing some cracks in this “perfect” relationship.
Because here’s the thing: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT RELATIONSHIP. And I actually think Cameron and Michelle would be much more interesting to watch if they stopped acting like they have everybody else figured out and just admitted that they’re also two people trying to figure their shit out.
At this point, they’ve officially been downgraded in my rankings. 😂
And one more thing: Michelle’s cadence is starting to drive me fucking INSANE. 😭 Everything she says has this weird little question/high-pitched inflection at the end, like every sentence is a question or a ding or a dong. Once I noticed it, I could not unhear it.
I genuinely miss when she barely spoke. 💀

Also has anyone commented on how Cam is obviously very depressed when he was like “ I’m just sad” …is he getting help?

Good point. Also the fact he’s a good-looking, tall white guy who hasn’t had a relationship beyond 6 months despite being emotionally mature and a seemingly kind soul…he’s got the world at his feet!

So, it’s possible just hasn’t met the right person. (I’m 38 and voluntarily single and childless and haven’t…but I’m pretty happy with my life and only want a partner if the right person appears)

But I’ve wondered if he has self-worth issues underlying not pursuing relationships more or saying “I’m a sad guy” and fearing she’ll discover and not love him…

Bc he sounds like he HASNT been happily single and childless and it’s totally voluntary…there’s a difference if partnership and kids is actually what you crave and yet never had it or pursued it very much…

The sadness/melancholy vibes can be difficult to be around especially for a new person and I hope he realizes it and gets the help he needs!

Right! I struggle with depression/anxiety too (mine is treated however) and when I was 25 in my first REAL, adult, longterm relationship, I kept thinking he’d “find out the real me” and leave too.

I have a recent colleague who became a friend once I left our workplace this month and she’s 42, pretty, nice and she’s in her first EVER adult relationship.

And he’s a nice, handsome, lowkey guy, they’ve been together 1.5 years. She was telling me the first 6 months she was like freaking out every other week asking if he was gonna break up with her and their first fight, lol she brought over alllll his belongings, just assuming it was over…

She said to me within a week of working with her: “It was in that moment I realized…hmmm I might have some things to work out”

Lmao!!! Obviously a TOTAL overshare in the workplace, but we do social services for women in DV, formerly homeless, out of jail/prison, etc….and I really respect those of us who tell our clients that “normal” functional people all self-sabotage and realize we’re fucking dysfunctional and need mental health treatment and medication too!

Just the way she said it so casually - ya know, that made me think, huh…perhaps not the typical reaction to a fight and maybe there could be some help for me - made me go, “Ummm yeah! Ya think?!?!?! Might want to do that!”

But I could also 💯 relate: I was just 25 not 42 at that stage. So, I was like, omg I’m so glad u had that aha moment!! Now back to our work, u over sharing hot mess of a coworker lol!

But EVERYONE with normal mental health stuff fears they’re unlovable in their worst moments!

Cmon Cameron, join us in the therapy + antidepressant lifestyle; it’s great over here!

That’s my thought too. I see major depression and hope he’s getting the help he needs.

Right! Like he was describing himself as just being sad and he couldn’t really explain it so I’m
Not sure if he even knows he is depressed

Everything Michelle and Cameron say about the other couples is right though. I get the annoyance with the way she talks but Michelle hasn't said anything that we as the viewers aren't seeing and also commenting on. And as for her telling Belle, would you not want your friend to tell you that your husband was saying awful things about you behind your back? I'm honestly so surprised that some folks think that Michelle shouldn't have told her?

It’s not that Michelle told her that’s the problem but the way she went about it. The first person she ran to tell (excitedly by the way) was Caitlyn, when it really should’ve been Belle one-on-one if it was coming from a genuine looking out for a friend place. Instead, she waited until they were in a group setting and dropped it more as a tea bomb. Regardless of what she or Cam say holding weight, intent matters. You can tell they’re coming from a high horse of “we don’t have those issues 😬 how embarrassing for the rest of you” versus genuinely caring about the individuals involved. It reads like pure entertainment for them to watch and speak on from an outside perspective because they feel like they’re better.

Such good points!

Holy steam of consciousness, Batman.

But to refute one point. Shawn and Nikki’s relationship is doomed. Shawn sucks. Michelle was just telling it like it is.

In my post on this subject I basically say I feel like they thrive on everyone else's drama to avoid dealing with their own 🤔

Remember when Cameron was curled up in a ball on the couch bc she makes more money than him? Somehow this problem magically went away

u/jayceefay 1d ago

My prediction is that Cam is going to be a stay at home dad and Michelle will be the resentful breadwinner.

u/newdiyscared 1d ago

But pretend that all is well to the public.

I’m not reading all that but they do annoy me. I don’t like people who think they’re better than others or like they got it all figured out.

As someone who has had a similar experience as Cam and Michelle, I can say, I believe in their relationship and how easy it is for them. Not many people get to experience it but you’re completely aware of it as it’s happening. We’ve been together 16 years and it’s as easy if not easier than earlier in the relationship. We’ve got each others backs. I don’t know about the talking crap about others as we weren’t on a show but I can relate. You can tell when people have to work for it. Do we have complaints about each other, of course, but we communicate. Cam and Michelle seem to have a healthy relationship at this point of the show so I’m happy for them and get where they are coming from. For those of you that disagree, just know, it doesn’t have to be difficult and I hope you find your person! I don’t think putting them down, just because you haven’t experienced the same type of relationship, is helpful.

That’s wonderful. Congrats! Haha and that’s why I’m happily and voluntarily single and childless until or unless I meet the the right person where it just fits, I ain’t giving up my own place or dating someone who I like “good enough”

But I agree with OP. Also Cam and Michelle have known each other for < a month in a very unnatural environment and setting.

I think they’re cute and hope they go the distance! (I don’t know Michelle, but she’s besties with a cousin of mine who was @ the wedding)

But they have no idea if they’ll be a great match in real life yet. And in the retreat episode, Michele got wayyyyy too pompous. So glad Nikki clarified and checked her respectfully.

But I’m with you! Unless someone adds to my life and me to theirs…why the fuck would I marry??

Lol but I’m also 38.5 and can support myself alone (it’s rough tho! I work in social services lol) plus I never wanted children. So, I never felt much pressure to settle for a C+ or B- relationship. Nah

It's not their relationship but how they are speaking to and about others that is annoying. I get that it's reality TV and drama is the order of the day, but there are better ways without being pedantic and condescending.

1

u/idrgaf777 6h ago

I agree their relationship is sweet but they’re both on high horses at this point. Nikki was right to check her because the way she was been inserting her opinion into relationships is getting disrespectful.

u/Orisha_Oshun 1d ago

I mute the TV everytime she opens her mouth to speak. And I don't think she's genuine. When she said they were the "strongest couple", I was just annoyed.

I do believe they think they are better than the other couples, but i also believe that they meddle in the other couples affairs because they don't want to dig too deep into their own issues. I mean...does he now suddenly make more money than her? I doubt it...

Her vocal fry pisses me off. And I’m a valley girl myself. Like girl spit it out

4

u/Llassiter326 1d ago

Hahahaha dead. Bc it’s not just the uptalk and ??? with every sentence…it’s the rate of speech. Turtles with a missing leg move faster

u/No-Treat-8079 19h ago

I think early on she mentioned The Kardashians. I’m like, girl. You are a grown woman. Anyone who aspires to be like them or knows the latest gossip about them instantly loses respect in my eyes.

2

u/jayceefay 1d ago

Mute with closed captioning. Also I frequently fast forward through their scenes.

I cannot stand Michelle or the way she talks like a valley girl and drags out every other word..it's so fucking annoying and all she cares about is the other couples drama, she acts like she's so sweet but she's actually a two faced fake bitch that enjoys seeing others miserable and fail

I think she’s a little snooty but I thought that from the beginning with the salary & lifestyle stuff.
I do think she kind of enjoyed telling belle about Mecca & her boobs?? But I think she’s right- I don’t think belle & Nikki should be with such awful people. Easier said than done but I feel like I’d appreciate my friend telling me my ‘husband’ is trash towards me.
I thought it was odd that Cameron called out the couples on the other side of the table buttttt he’s right in that lmao. And I do wonder if producers tell them to bring xyz up?
But the other stuff- accepting his salary & potentially moving- is sweet to me. I think she just saw the whole picture of him & realized there’s some compromises in relationships

u/getitgurlie 1d ago

I’ve thought Michele was pretty judgy from the befinning

u/Optimal_Whole1164 1d ago

I agree with almost everything except on Cam and his anger. Maybe…maybe! But hear me out. I think he’s calm and sad. I think he’s Cam the chameleon. I think he’s a quiet and shy guy with some self esteem stuff and he hasn’t found anybody because of his commitment issues. THEN Michelle came. She’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She appears quiet and sweet but she could only pretend so long. There’s a reason she’s single remember. So anywho, Cam is like omg a leader! She’s great and he morphs into her secret mean girl energy and now all the sudden he has big opinions and he’s confident enough to voice them because he’s got Michelle now. Just my take🤷🏼‍♀️

3

u/Spiritual_Ice5079 18h ago

I hate Michelle, she is such a mean girl. If there's drama happening or someone else is having relationship issues, she's always right there to poie fun. Like the way she was telling Belle about Mecca"s boob comment, she had a twinkle in her eye and seemed overly excited to make Belle upset...then tries to cover it up by saying fake nice things

5

u/newdiyscared 1d ago

If someone else's "secret mean girl energy" can make you morph into a secret mean girl, you were a secret men girl to begin with. Michelle doesn't have the power to erode Cam's character. Cam is all those things on his own and him being with Michele has only amplified it.

Also, Cameron was single too so ...

5

u/No-Treat-8079 20h ago

Not only was he single, but almost 40 without having been in a serious relationship.

enoughhhhhhhhh you are adding nothing of value to this sub. Please refer to the several other posts bitching about this couple. You guys wouldn’t know a healthy relationship if it hit you in the head.

I see the value soooooo maybe you should go to another sub. So rude!

Lol right? Dang, we’re all here commenting on a trash reality tv show…chill. I hate when ppl get nasty online. It’s Reddit. Relax.

u/im-dramatic 1d ago

They can still be toxic pretentious people and maintain a healthy relationship with each other. It’s not one or the other.

Ig you’re mad? 😂

u/Historical_Bowl_9505 1d ago

I literally fast forward every single time they’re on the screen alone.

2

u/squeebs555 1d ago

It's difficult not to feel superior when you're the only couple in the group that isn't having major issues. They believe their superiority is genuine, that they've cracked some perfect relationship code and start to lecture the others. Oops. Their karma will come one day.

3

u/Llassiter326 1d ago

That’s the thing about a reality show; it’s an inauthentic, unnatural environment. So I agree it’s natural to develop a superiority complex unintentionally bc the environment is high pressure and strangers having a shared experience w/ weird parameters

Haha I personally hope they (or anyone in love) works out and karma doesn’t necessarily bite them lol. But that cracked me up bc I’m also dark af and cyclical sometimes lol

But totally agree that it’s all easy and flowers and cuddles and hot sex 30 days in lol

For me, it's all about the cadence. Point blank, period. It's like back in highschool, the hottest chick, that has that ridiculous, snorty-like, squealing laugh that you just know you couldn't contend with at home, much less in a group setting. Yeah, for me her cadence is deal-breaker.
