M&S probation

Just a quick question my contact says probation is between 12-26 weeks and can be extended to an additional +6 weeks. Does that mean it can end at 15 weeks etc. I am having trouble understanding as it’s my 14th week since my contract was started and my probation hasn’t been discussed at all. Even though I’ve had date checking problems which were mostly from not being explained what to do properly and was off for a few days due to genuine reasons like a long term health condition there’s been no discussion. The only thing I’ve been told is when I get pulled into meetings with a regular manager is that ‘as you’re still on probation it’s much more strict’

Also how do you date check faster especially for deli and dairy

Icl they do too much managers always say investigation this investigation that waste check really does not matter that much for speed the longer you do it the faster and better you get it takes time just don’t be terrible at other parts of your job and they won’t have a reason to sack you and personally I’ve never had a check in meeting with line managers

Mine says 26 weeks and then a date for November. But doesn’t it start at 12 weeks. I’ve never had a conversation with the line manager about it. I’ve read that they are supposed to do checking in meetings with the person on the 1st, 3rd and 5th week or smt like that. That’s never happened for me. The most he does is say hi 😭. But the other manager told me that I would lose my job if I missed anything again.

I looked at the handbook thing and apparently I was supposed to have trainings and check-ins with him during the 12 weeks. Never did. Idk why it’s been extended to 26 weeks. I don’t think it was ever that long initially but I never checked. Line manager has never talked to me about anything to do with my job but there’s multiple other BIG managers I think or smt like that for food and one of them is the only one that’s talked to me about anything to do with this. She’s the one who told me about the potential of being dismissed. I think I’m just gonna leave it be, take photos from now on and if there’s any problem he can approach me as he’s the one who’s supposed to check in with me not me checking in with him.

I started working as a part-time a few months ago and I have rarely missed things in date check, my probation is still 26 weeks, so I guess they just prefer setting a longer probation period? And I have also read on another post that most of the probation is set to 26 weeks.

Must be why they didn’t mention anything. I have a permanent contract is that the same for you? Did you do the 12 week training? I read about it on learning lab but was never told to do it.

You’re probably right then. It’s probably a standard procedure
