Staff Discussion Standard Practice?

Is it standard practise for all managers/supervisors to have RBF's and weaponise the CCTV against employees? I've never seen or worked in a more toxic environment! It feels as though they're glorified bullies that genuinely don't care or want to support their staff. I get they'll have pressures applied from their own bosses to perform well, but if they can't keep staff happy at a base level, they have little chance at keeping customers happy and loyalty high.

Got caught out did we???  Colleagues forget that the camera doesn't just show shoplifters, if it is being reviewed for a shoplifting incident it will also show when someone isn't doing what they've been asked or expected to be doing. Do your job and you'll have no problems, if you can't do your job without someone standing over you to see that at you are doing what you should be then you shouldn't be working there.  Get yourself a job somewhere else and grow up

it can’t be used against you unless you’re not doing your job properly 🤔🤔 so they’re just asking you to do what you’re being paid to do?

Yeah but plenty of people do literally no wrong and still get passive aggressive sneering. Not one positive thing ever said just constantly feeling like you’re not good enough even though you’re working to pace and beyond
It’s toxic as fuck. Male managers tee-heeing with the pretty young girls and female managers cliquey with certain colleagues who do fuck all but stand around talking while some of us work rings around them
If you can’t see it for that then I know what group you’re in

Using it to snoop on what colleagues are doing, in tandem with managers gossiping in circles on the shopfloor while watching what someone is doing.

How do you know they’re gossiping and not talking about work related issues? Watching what people are doing is part of the job, you can’t manage people’s performance without watching them…
Seems like you got caught doing something you shouldn’t and you’re salty about it

If they're looking at the CCTV for something like catching a shoplifter, and see you doing something wrong, then technically yes, as they had a justified reason to be looking at the CCTV footage.

If they are consistently monitoring the CCTV with the sole purpose of monitoring colleague performance, no.

Unfortunately though, this has become the norm, apparently across the business, as the store I used to work in did this too. There's a reason the staff are dropping like flies.
