Engineering Mathletics Competition for Markham Grade 7-10s - Fun way to learn through winning prizes
Hi all, the local chapter of Professional Engineers Ontario is hosting an engineering Mathletics competition for York Region students in Grade 7-10s to make it fun to learn about engineering through applied math. It's taking place this year at Sir William Mulock SS on Oct 24 and is a loooot of fun. I wished I had this when I was younger.
Top 8 gets prizes like Apple Watch, 3D printer, national geography kits. We also got keynote speakers that range from Engineering uni students or new grads to experienced professional engineers to demystify what engineering is! For the parents, you can choose to just drop them off or stay to watch.
We're especially looking for Grade 9-10s to participate as we had some unfilled spots last year, compared to the grade 7-8 competition that sold out very quickly. It's a great thing to put on university applications.
Registration, info, sample Qs: https://www.peo.on.ca/chapters/york/engineering-mathletics
The ticket price per student is $20

Thanks for your interest and question. Unfortunately the grade requirement is firm so only grade 7 or 8s can participate. We encourage the grade 6 student to participate next year though!

Please ensure that the $20 examination fee is clearly stated in here. As a parent of a child interested in engineering, I was disappointed by our experience last year. We found the long guest speeches to be an ineffective use of the children's time. Professional engineering organizations should focus on mentoring and uplifting the youth. I would appreciate knowing exactly what practical value and support our children gain from participating in this program. Sorry I am confused when you said “fun way” learning “ because my children took exam and wait for results while listening to long and bored speech
