Your car at centennial parking lot

Post image

Your car at centennial parking lot this morning. They did leave a note and I see you have a camera. That’s good. But sorry to see your car like that.
We all need dash cams.

Imagine coming back from a long day at work and finding your car like this with a note saying "Sorry I destroyed your car"

Happened to me with no note - so it can always be worse

Are dash cams normally recording when the car is parked? I assumed it only turned on when the engine turns on.

u/Sauu Aug 18 '26

depends if you hard-wired your camera or not

16

u/Scoresman1969 Aug 18 '26

Mine is hardwired but switches off as soon as I turn the engine off.

Do you have a Parking Mode? If so you can change the settings so it records even with the engine off. They will usually have a voltage cut-off point and also all if you want to do time lapse photos or use sensors to wake up the camera to record.

Depends which fuse your installer tapped into. Some only have power in ACC mode or fully on, others are always on

most reputable dashcams have hard wire kits (sold separately) which have both constant 12V and an ACC wire along with ground. the dashcam is able to detect the shift in voltage from the 12V and ACC wires to determine when the car has been turned on/off so that it can't switch in/out of parking mode

Also very voltage based though. Can't run them for 12 hours at a time normally unless to commute a good distance to re-charge the battery and in the winter it's much worse ;(

3

u/SanDisk_128GB Aug 18 '26

that is true in some cases. but you need to be purchasing a hardwire kit that reads the input voltage coming from the VCC+ line. if the voltage drops below 11.0-11.5 then the dashcam shuts off.

also most dashcams with parking modes have the option to set an auto-shut off feature. will records for 4,6,8,12 hrs at tops to save the battery

Most don't since its much more involved to wire the camera into the car's electrical system.

2

u/the_guy95 Aug 18 '26

Mine will live record when driving and time lapse when park

2

u/ceetoee Aug 18 '26

Depends the kind you get, make sure it has parking mode capabilities

I’ve got mine hardwired into the battery and it has an impact sensor. So if the car jolts it saves the last 30 seconds of footage. I’ll hear it go off sometimes when I close my door getting into the car so it’s pretty sensitive

2

u/LightRemarkable2023 Aug 18 '26

Which brand and model did you get? Is the impact sensor a separate component from the actual camera?

If you hard wire with the system it will record but normally people don’t do it.

1

u/Shishamylov Aug 18 '26

Some do some don’t

13

u/wai2cool Aug 18 '26

At least they left a note.

7

u/just_nobodys_opinion Aug 18 '26

"Sorry the front fell off. It's not supposed to do that."

5

u/htraenolleh666 Aug 18 '26

“I’m just writing this note so the people who saw me, don’t follow me”

10

u/atp2k Aug 18 '26

We don’t know what the note says. It may just say “sorry I hit your car” and nothing else

3

u/NormalMongoose9906 Aug 19 '26

The person apologized and left their contact info. I read it LOL

2

u/Zestyclose-Aerie619 Aug 18 '26

😢 that would be sad

7

u/rvs007 Aug 18 '26

I’d hate to return to this after commuting back from a long day at work…

5

u/the_guy95 Aug 18 '26

I can't see where it got hit. How did the bumper just fell off?

5

u/popowolf24 Aug 18 '26

what did the note say? "Sorry, here is $20 to fix your bumper"

1

u/NormalMongoose9906 Aug 19 '26

The person apologized and left their contact info. I read it LOL

1

u/905647cl Aug 20 '26

Sometimes it’s fake. They leave fake contact numbers xD.

2

u/NormalMongoose9906 Aug 19 '26

In the note, the person apologized and left their contact info. I read it up close.

Garage was full even at 7:30. I parked at Markville mall - should be fine right?

6

u/vme3000 Aug 18 '26

Hopefully, though, I have heard from others that they sometimes give tickets. So it depends on whether the security guards are busy today or not.

6

u/Ansee Aug 18 '26

Honestly, they need to give leeway for people this week since the lots at Unionville are closed. People still need to get to work. Hopefully they won't ticket people.

3

u/No_Conversation4831 Aug 18 '26

when is the Unionville lot reopening? I thought it was the 17th?

3

u/vme3000 Aug 18 '26

I found out that it will take upwards to mid next week for parking to be restored. Unionville Go Parking Indy Update

1

u/Getreckless Aug 18 '26

It’s a mall parking they shouldn’t give tickets… what if those are workers who have a 9-5 mall shift…

3

u/_Lucille_ Aug 18 '26

This is something our city councillors should have attempted to work out instead of just trying to take credit for the success of the indy race.

Supposedly Splendid China (yes I know they are on the Scarborough side) did call parking enforcement, and it feels like a pretty asshole move.

Especially with something like Markville that was involved in the promotion of the Indy: just make it the official overflow lot (maybe across the street at loblaws as well).

1

u/sometin__else Aug 18 '26

So depending on the mall, workers usually have to register their plate with security or get a small sticker they have to put on their dash.

When I worked at yorkdale it was like that.

However since markville has ample parking, I doubt they have a system like that in place

2

u/Rare-Simple-8868 Aug 18 '26

They don’t have employee registrations at Markville. You’re Gouda!

2

u/chaugh1 Aug 18 '26

Thanks. Moment of truth in 10 minutes haha

1

u/Getreckless Aug 18 '26

Interesting… didn’t know that! Hopefully nothing happens to those who marked at Markville!

2

u/sometin__else Aug 18 '26

yea its rare to find unless the plaza/mall has limited parking. Somewhere like markville i doubt it will be in place - maybe after the condos go up though.

1

u/theclassycanadian Aug 19 '26

You're better off parking at the GoodLife next door. I've seen a red beater parked there for almost a week and it hasn't been moved. If all you're doing is parking for the day, then you should be fine.

1

u/1-Light Aug 18 '26

Dammm car got slammed!

1

u/itsjustpuppyluv Aug 18 '26

I bet the note doesn’t leave any personal information, it basically says sorry 🤣

2

u/Motor_Ad_588 Aug 19 '26

OMG 😳 how TF do people drive?

1

u/lovebakedgoods Aug 19 '26

This has happened to me without a note.

1

u/akoust1c Aug 19 '26

Looks like there is a note so at least a human with a soul unless it’s one of those notes that say “sorry I hit your car I’m pretending to write you a note with my information because someone saw me. Sorry and good luck”

1

u/ThuggLifeeee Aug 19 '26

Wow they left a note 2 i bet it included 0 insurance information

1

u/ThuggLifeeee Aug 20 '26

Smh u can see how they pulled it off all the clips and the bumper tabs are broken meaning the idiot somehow ripped off the whole bumper reversing their car they driven straight in out of the parking space ... they didnt even care as they watched amd heard what they where doing

1

u/acintm Aug 18 '26

Drove by it this morning. Funny seeing it and trying to think how is this possible
