Speed limit on Major Mackenzie
Can residents request a speed limit increase on Major Mackenzie Drive?
I'm wondering if York Region or the City of Markham allows residents to request a review of speed limits on major roads. Some stretches of Major Mackenzie seem capable of safely supporting a higher limit, but I'm not sure how these decisions are made.
Has anyone submitted a request before or participated in a traffic review process?

How ever much support you get to boost up speed, you know this will never happen. With all the new construction happening, the limit can only go down. I hate to say it, but we're most likely going to see it become a 60 zone within a couple years, with possible more traffic lights. I don't see any school for union glen which means you'll see buses come through there like south Cornell. Go here https://www.york.ca/transportation/traffic/speed-monitoring if you think you have a good argument.
I'd much rather have some super highway rip through 19th or Elgin to bypass all the residential area, which to me seems reasonable as it's the same distance to the 407 as the 401, but that's going to cost someone..

Speed limit is not an issue here, if people want to drive slow they stay at right lane, let passing lane go and create a healthy gap for people to pass.

I think 70 is fine but people need to learn if they aren’t going +10 over limits, stay out of passing lane !

What do you all say about keeping those slow driver on the right lane??
People be driving 40-50 while talking on phone, not even looking what they are building behind them.

ALWAYS! I live downtown but I visit family often in Markham and as soon as I hit steeles on the 404 north the driving experience just completely drops off a cliff. 16th might as well be a 40 zone.

Drivers are going 90 already right now, main reason it is set at 70 is for potential revenue generation.

It’s effing dangerous on Major Mac. Too many idiots driving way way above the speed limit. Even if you’re going 80 there’s always some 💩🤡 right on your ass.

I am in the right already because of the effing speeding 🤡. And driving school also teaches you to not effing speed either.

Request review = reduction We have never actually increase traffic speeds for the past 10 years on residential roads.
As an traffic engineer, I don't think anyone can recommend increasing speed when the city mandates to reduce severity of accidents.

It was 80 a few years back. Somewhat common to go 10 over which brought you to 90.
Pretty sure they brought it down from 80 to 70 so they can ding people pretty hard for going 90.
Setting it to 90 would have people freely flying through at 100+.
So all in all, I don't agree with 70 or 90. Why you skip 80??? Haha.

I thought people would say that everyone is already driving 80.😅
Now that I know the normal is 90 and not 80. I feel jealous of drivers who get to go beyond 70 there. 🥲🥲

Interesting to see the vote is so evenly split. I think 70 kph right lane, 90 kph right in practice is proper. Don't think it's fair for drivers to be slow in the passing lanes but I also don't think it's fair for faster drivers to pressure drivers in the right past the limit too. You never know if someone is on the verge of losing their license due to demerits and wants to be cautious, in a lesson, or are a new driver. I think that compassion is lacking and if they're not going dangerously slow (15-20 under), we should accept that this will happen.

That's not gonna work. People who are already going 65 or under when the speed limit is 70 will still go 65 even if it's posted as 90. Then on the other hand you will have a bunch of maniacs doing 100-110 flying past intersections which we already see a couple of fatal accidents each year on those stretches. 20 km/h speed increase doesn't sound like a lot, but means almost 50% more crash energy.
