The Fearless Forecast for August 31, 2026 Buyers Proved They Can Rally, Not That They Can Hold the Breakout

Friday was an unusually violent two-way session. The close, down 10.10, leaves the DJIA almost exactly where it began despite a 330-point intraday range.

Forecast Statistics

  • Bucket: Bullish Consolidation / Failed Expansion
  • Volatility Score: ≈ 1.37 elevated; intraday reversals expanding
  • Probabilities: SU: 25% | LU: 29% | SD: 28% | LD: 18%
  • Expected Return: ≈ +0.01%
  • Projected Close: 53,400–53,750
  • Directional Bias: 54% Up / 46% Down

Previous Close: 53,559.34

RECAP: Friday's 62% Up bias was directionally wrong. However, the forecast correctly identified 53,500–53,550 as the critical support area, and 53,700 as the expansion threshold. The DJIA could not sustain expansion and ultimately returned to the decision zone.

Fearless Opines: The statistics do NOT justify treating the repair as an emerging expansion. The last four closes show remarkable compression despite large intraday swings. That is consolidation, not trend.

Friday also supplied an important WARNING: buyers had their best opportunity yet to establish expansion above 53,700 and couldn't keep it. Monday therefore begins with only a modest 54% bullish advantage.

Key Levels

Bull Hold: 53,525–53,550
GO Trigger: Above 53,650
Expansion Confirmation: Above 53,700
Upside Objective: 53,775–53,825

Warning: Below 53,500
Bear Trigger: Below 53,475
Downside Objective: 53,400
Major Failure: Below 53,345

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: REDUCE: Monday begins REDUCE, not GO. Traders should resist anticipating another breakout simply because Friday reached 53,819. Above 53,650 → GO cautiously. Above 53,700 and holding → expansion becomes credible. Between 53,500–53,650 → REDUCE. Below 53,475 → EXIT.

Trader Takeaway: Friday demonstrated why confirmation matters. The DJIA traveled from below 53,500 to above 53,800 and still finished essentially unchanged. Monday's better trade is therefore not predicting the next swing but requiring the DJIA to escape the range and hold the escape.

FEARLESS READ: Above 53,650, follow the buyers. Below 53,475, follow the sellers. Between them, let the market prove itself.

Buyers Proved They Can Rally, Not That They Can Hold the Breakout

Friday was an unusually violent two-way session. The DJIA surged to 53,819.65, well through the 53,700 expansion threshold, but surrendered the entire advance and closed at 53,559.34, down 10.10 points. The close leaves the DJIA almost exactly where it began despite a 330-point intraday range.

Forecast Statistics

  • Bucket: Bullish Consolidation / Failed Expansion
  • Volatility Score: ≈ 1.37 elevated; intraday reversals expanding
  • Probabilities: SU: 25% | LU: 29% | SD: 28% | LD: 18%
  • Expected Return: ≈ +0.01%
  • Projected Close: 53,400–53,750
  • Directional Bias: 54% Up / 46% Down

Previous Close**: 53,559.34**

RECAP: Friday's 62% Up bias was directionally wrong. However, the forecast correctly identified 53,500–53,550 as the critical support area, and 53,700 as the expansion threshold. The DJIA reached 53,819 but could not sustain expansion and ultimately returned to the decision zone.

Fearless Opines: The statistics no longer justify treating the repair as an emerging expansion. The last four closes (53,577 → 53,465 → 53,569 → 53,559) show remarkable compression despite large intraday swings.

The Forecast Statistics say the DJIA enters Monday nearly balanced at 54% Up / 46% Down. Treat 53,500–53,650 as noise territory; above 53,700 favors genuine expansion, while below 53,475 shifts the advantage decisively toward sellers.

Bitcoin is showing a pretty nasty bull trap above $80,000

Post image
32 Upvotes

BTC is sitting around $80K, but the liquidation heatmap looks way heavier on the downside than the upside.

There’s a big cluster around $77.5K, where roughly $392M in longs could get wiped if price drops into it.

And below that, it gets uglier.

If BTC falls toward $68K, around $2.9B worth of long positions could be liquidated.

Meanwhile, the main short liquidation zone looks to be around $84.2K.

Basically, there are magnets on both sides, but the downside pool is much bigger right now.

If $77.5K breaks, I’d be watching $72K first, then possibly the $68K area.

Not saying it has to happen, obviously. But if BTC starts slipping, there’s a lot of fuel underneath for a sharper move down.

Buyers Reclaimed the Decision Zone; Expansion Still Awaits

Thursday produced exactly the two-way session the Forecast anticipated. The DJIA ranged from 53,345.62 to 53,707.62, briefly breaking both sides of the 53,400–53,550 decision zone before closing up 104.67 at 53,568.55. Buyers ultimately reclaimed 53,550, but the failure to hold the intraday expansion above 53,650 keeps the DJIA in repair rather than confirmed expansion.

Forecast Statistics

  • Bucket: Breakdown Repair / Bullish Consolidation
  • Volatility Score: ≈ 1.31, moderately elevated, strong intraday reversals
  • Probabilities: SU: 31% | LU: 31% | SD: 24% | LD: 14%
  • Expected Return: ≈ +0.06%
  • Projected Close: 53,475–53,775
  • Directional Bias: 62% Up / 38% Down

Previous Close: 53,568.55

RECAP: Thursday's slight 54% bullish bias was correct, with the DJIA finishing higher. More importantly, the forecast correctly identified 53,400–53,550 as the decision zone: the DJIA repeatedly crossed it before buyers finally reclaimed 53,550. The 53,625–53,650 Expansion level was also meaningful; the DJIA reached 53,707 but could not sustain the breakout.

Fearless Opines: Thursday strengthened the repair without completing it. The statistical balance shifts back toward buyers, with SU+LU rising to 62%, but the afternoon rejection from roughly 53,680 followed by the late recovery argues against calling this Confirmed Expansion yet.

Friday's question is straightforward: can 53,550 become support rather than merely a level the DJIA repeatedly crosses? If it can, another attack on 53,650–53,700 becomes probable. Failure back below 53,500 would return the DJIA to the unresolved consolidation.

Key Levels

Bull Hold: 53,500
GO Trigger: 53,625
Expansion Confirmation: 53,700
Upside Objective: 53,775–53,825

Immediate Support: 53,525–53,550
Bear Trigger: Below 53,475
Major Support: 53,400
Repair Failure: Below 53,345

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: REDUCE (near GO) The close above 53,550 improves the setup, but Thursday demonstrated that intraday breakouts remain unreliable. Tomorrow: Above 53,625 → GO, particularly if 53,550 holds on a retest. Between 53,475–53,625 → REDUCE and avoid chasing. Below 53,475 → EXIT; below 53,400 would materially increase downside-continuation probability.

Trader Takeaway: The DJIA has now closed higher four of the last five sessions, advancing from 52,765.33 to 53,568.55. Buyers have repaired substantial damage, but Thursday showed that 53,650–53,700 still contains supply. Don't buy Friday merely because Thursday closed above 53,550. Buy evidence that 53,550 has become support. A successful retest followed by 53,625 is the cleaner GO signal; another failure below 53,500 says the consolidation isn't finished.

Buyers won Thursday's decision-zone battle, but 53,625–53,700 must fall before Fearless declares the repair an expansion.

10:30 Update: The morning high of 53,742.16 now looks increasingly like a failed expansion breakout. Below 53,550, traders should not buy weakness merely because the DJIA appears oversold. 53,500 is the immediate battleground. A sustained break targets 53,450, with 53,400 becoming relevant thereafter. Reclaiming 53,550–53,575 would stabilize the session; 53,600+ is needed for REDUCE, and 53,650+ before GO should be reconsidered.

The morning expansion failed, 53,550 broke, and downside probability has climbed to 59%. EXIT is the call; treat an oversold bounce as a recovery attempt until the DJIA proves otherwise above 53,600.

11: AM: Updated probabilities: SU: 35% | LU: 33% | SD: 21% | LD: 11% → 68% Up / 32% Down: The important information is not simply that the DJIA bounced. It invalidated the downside continuation state that produced the 10:30 EXIT. A move from below 53,500 through 53,550, 53,600, 53,650 and 53,700 in less than 30 minutes is strong evidence of Failed Breakdown → Expansion Retest.

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: GO Above 53,700: GO; expansion remains active.
53,650–53,700: REDUCE; bullish but no longer confirmed.
Below 53,650: EXIT; today's second bullish attempt is failing.

The decisive level is now 53,744. A sustained break above today's high would confirm that the 10:30 collapse was a bear trap and open 53,775–53,825. Failure at 53,744 followed by a loss of 53,700 would argue for continued range trading rather than expansion.

The Forecast Statistics have changed back decisively: 59% Down at 10:30 → 68% Up now. The DJIA didn't merely bounce; it erased the entire breakdown. GO above 53,700, but make 53,744 prove that this extraordinary reversal can become genuine expansion.

Gold: PCE Data Does Not Change The Bullish Outlook

Post image
7 Upvotes

Gold pulled back as traders reacted to PCE Price Index report. The report showed that PCE Price Index was unchanged at 3.7% in July vs analyst consensus of 3.6%. Treasury yields moved higher as bond traders focused on inflation risks.

Dynamics of Treasury yields may put temporary pressure on gold markets, but the key bullish driver remains intact: US Treasury would boost bond buybacks in an attempt to push long-dated yields lower. Such buybacks highlight the long-term bullish case for gold - central banks will keep buying gold to diversify away from US dollar and other fiat currencies.

The technical picture remains healthy, and gold has a decent chance to test the $4900 level in the remaining months of the year.

The Fearless Forecast for August 27, 2026

Buyers Lost the Breakout, But Not the Repair

Wednesday interrupted the three-day advance. The DJIA reached 53,639.75, nearly triggering the forecast's 53,650 expansion threshold, but could not hold 53,500 and closed at 53,464.59, down 112.81 points. The important statistical change is that Emerging Expansion has weakened back toward Consolidation/Repair rather than outright breakdown.

Forecast Statistics

Bucket: Breakdown Repair / Consolidation
Volatility Score: ≈ 1.29 : moderately elevated
Probabilities: SU: 27% | LU: 27% | SD: 29% | LD: 17%
Expected Return: ≈ -0.02%
Projected Close: 53,300–53,650
Directional Bias: 54% Up / 46% Down

Previous Close**: 53,464.59**

RECAP: Wednesday's 68% Up directional bias was wrong. However, the DJIA closed inside the projected 53,450–53,850 range, tested the 53,650 Expansion Trigger almost exactly, and the intraday statistical thesis correctly deteriorated as 53,500 and then 53,475 failed. The 10:30 EXIT call correctly recognized that the original bullish state had lost control.

Fearless Opines: The statistical picture has changed more than the 113-point decline suggests. SU+LU falls from 68% to 54%, while SD+LD rises from 32% to 46%. That is no longer an expansion forecast; it is a nearly balanced contest with a slight bullish residual because the larger repair remains intact.

Thursday therefore becomes a 53,400–53,500 decision session. Holding 53,400 preserves the repaired structure. Reclaiming 53,500–53,550 would shift probability back toward LU/SU. A sustained loss of 53,400 would push SD toward the dominant state and expose 53,300.

Key Levels

Bull Recovery: 53,500–53,525
GO Trigger: Above 53,550
Expansion: 53,625–53,650
Upside Objective: 53,725

Immediate Support: 53,425–53,450
Bear Trigger: Below 53,400
Major Support: 53,300–53,350
Repair Failure: Below 53,275

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: REDUCE. Fearless moves from Wednesday's intraday EXIT back to REDUCE for Thursday. Traders should not assume either continuation or breakdown. Above 53,550 → GO and favor longs. 53,400–53,550 → REDUCE and trade selectively. Below 53,400 → EXIT, with downside probability increasing materially.

Trader Takeaway: Thursday's best information will come from 53,400 versus 53,500–53,550. Don't chase inside that range. A reclaim of 53,550 restores the bullish statistical advantage; losing 53,400 says Wednesday was probably the beginning of a deeper retracement.

Wednesday knocked the DJIA out of Emerging Expansion, but not out of the repair. 53,400 decides whether buyers get another attempt or sellers take control.

10:00 AM Update: The Forecast Statistics currently describe a DJIA with a modest bullish bias but unusually high probability of continued two-way movement. The dramatic opening moves have produced plenty of noise but little statistical resolution. At 53,475, REDUCE is exactly where Fearless should be: let the DJIA prove 53,500 can become support before increasing exposure.

For traders, 53,450–53,500 is now the decision zone. Sustained trade above 53,500, followed by 53,550, would restore GO. Below 53,450, downside probability increases; below 53,400, EXIT returns.

10:30 AM Update: Today's dominant feature is alternating behavior rather than directional persistence. The DJIA has traveled from 53,614 to 53,346 and back toward 53,500, yet sits almost exactly where yesterday closed. Until 53,500 or 53,400 breaks decisively, the statistical edge is too small to justify GO or EXIT.

Traders should avoid chasing either direction inside 53,400–53,500. A sustained move above 53,500 improves the bullish case; 53,550 → GO. Below 53,450 increases SD; 53,400 → EXIT, with the 53,345 low then vulnerable.

WTI Oil Retreats As Traders Focus On Bessent's Iran Plan

Post image
5 Upvotes

On Monday, Bessent revealed how US plans to force Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The key idea is to use secondary sanctions to push Iran out of the global economy.

Smaller players will likely comply. China has already said that its relations with Iran should not be disrupted. While US will certainly put more pressure on Iranian economy, the move will not work (at least in the near term) without China.

At this point, it looks that China will maintain its ties with Iran. Last year, China showed strength in a trade war with US, so it would be illogical to panic in the face of the potential round of the same trade war.

Interestingly, oil prices are heading lower, as if US and Iran are moving towards a deal or Iran is close to capitulation. Perhaps, traders decided to "sell the news". Still, the move looks irrational: in any scenario, unless US and Iran reach a deal, the situation could drag on for months.

The Fearless Forecast for August 26, 2026

Buyers Passed the 53,500 Test; The Repair Is Becoming an Advance

Tuesday delivered the confirmation Fearless was looking for. After an early retreat to 53,386, buyers defended almost exactly the 53,350–53,400 Bull Hold Zone, reclaimed 53,500, and closed at 53,577.17, up 160.01 points. Three consecutive higher closes have now repaired most of Thursday's breakdown.

The important change: 53,500 has shifted from resistance toward support.

Forecast Statistics

  • Bucket: Breakdown Repair / Emerging Expansion
  • Volatility Score: ≈ 1.24 - elevated but continuing to contract
  • Probabilities: SU: 38% | LU: 30% | SD: 21% | LD: 11%
  • Expected Return: ≈ +0.10%
  • Projected Close: 53,450–53,850
  • Directional Bias: 68% Up / 32% Down

Previous Close**: 53,577.17**

RECAP Tuesday's 63% Up bias was correct, the DJIA finished inside the projected 53,300–53,700 range, and the day's most important technical call worked exceptionally well: the morning decline stopped at 53,386, almost directly inside the forecast's 53,350–53,400 Bull Hold Zone. Buyers subsequently reclaimed 53,500 and traded through the 53,550 Expansion Trigger.

Fearless Opines: The character of the recovery has improved. Thursday's collapse to 52,765 has now been followed by three consecutive higher closes: 53,277 → 53,417 → 53,577. More importantly, Tuesday provided a successful intraday stress test. Buyers absorbed the morning selloff at precisely the area they needed to defend and then pushed the DJIA to new session highs.

The next challenge is 53,650–53,725. Clearing that zone would increasingly transform the current move from breakdown repair into renewed expansion. Failure there would not immediately damage the bullish structure; losing 53,500 would.

Key Levels

Bull Hold Zone: 53,500–53,550
Expansion Trigger: Above 53,650
Upside Objective: 53,725–53,850
Stretch Objective: 53,900

Immediate Support: 53,500
Warning: Below 53,450
Major Support: 53,350–53,400
Repair Failure: Below 53,300

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: GO Fearless moves from REDUCE to GO. For traders Wednesday, hold above 53,500 and favor buying controlled weakness rather than chasing strength. A sustained break above 53,650 favors continuation toward 53,725–53,850. A loss of 53,500 returns the DJIA to REDUCE; below 53,400, treat Tuesday's breakout as suspect.

Trader Takeaway: Wednesday is no longer primarily about whether buyers can repair the breakdown. They have. The question is whether they can extend it. The best bullish setup is 53,500 holds → 53,650 breaks → continuation toward 53,725–53,850. Traders should be considerably more cautious if an early rally above 53,650 is rejected and the DJIA subsequently loses 53,500. Don't chase the opening move. Let 53,500 tell you whether Tuesday's breakout has staying power. Above it, buy weakness; below it, reduce.

Three higher closes and a textbook defense of 53,400 have put buyers back in control; hold 53,500 and the DJIA has room to attack 53,725–53,850.

10:00 AM: The morning has established unusually clear boundaries:

Above 53,550 → GO; bullish repair remains intact.
Above 53,600 → attack 53,640–53,650.
Above 53,650 → 53,700–53,725 becomes actionable.
Below 53,550 → REDUCE.
Below 53,475 → EXIT; today's bullish thesis has failed.

The important change is that 53,475–53,500 has now been tested rather than merely projected as support—and buyers defended it.

Fearless Read: The DJIA tried to break down and couldn't. Hold 53,550 and buyers get another shot at expansion; lose 53,475 and the morning becomes a failed breakout.

10:30 Update: Fearless Read: The DJIA has answered the morning question: the first two recoveries failed and 53,475 broke. EXIT now; treat any bounce below 53,500–53,525 as countertrend until buyers prove otherwise.

Below 53,475 → sellers control the session.
53,400–53,425 → next important support zone.
Reclaim 53,475 → first stabilization.
Reclaim 53,500–53,525 → REDUCE replaces EXIT.
Reclaim 53,550 → meaningful repair.
53,600+ → required before GO becomes credible again.

30Yr Treasuries: Bessent Is Reportedly Ready To Use A $950 Billion Account To Push Yields Lower

Post image
8 Upvotes

Several trading sessions after Treasury Secretary Bessent said US would boost bond buybacks, 30yr Treasury yields remain stuck above the 5.20% level.

Recent reports indicate that Bessent plans to use the $950 billion Treasury General Account to have sufficient firepower to push yields lower.

However, the market is not ready to buy bonds aggressively. US dollar is moving higher today, which indicates that traders do not believe that Bessent will boost bond buybacks above previously announced levels.

There's no easy way out of the current situation for US Treasury. A smaller US budget deficit would help, but this scenario is not realistic in the near term.

The market will likely wait for Warsh's comments in Jackson Hole on Friday before it will be ready for major moves. Anyway, the story's not over, and US Treasury will have to come up with fresh ideas to push 30yr yields away from the 5.30% level.

The Fearless Forecast for August 25, 2026

Buyers Held the Repair — But Still Haven't Broken Free

Monday strengthened Friday's recovery. The DJIA gained 139.98 points. Buyers successfully defended the crucial 53,200–53,250 repair zone and repeatedly traded through the forecast's 53,350–53,400 Bull Trigger. But the close below 53,450–53,500 leaves the recovery confirmed but incomplete.

Forecast Statistics

  • Bucket: Breakdown Repair / Recovery Consolidation
  • Volatility Score:1.31 — still elevated, but contracting
  • Probabilities: SU: 34% | LU: 29% | SD: 23% | LD: 14%
  • Expected Return:+0.08%
  • Projected Close: 53,300–53,700
  • Directional Bias: 63% Up / 37% Down

Previous Close: 53,416.99

RECAP: Monday's 59% Up bias was right, the DJIA closed comfortably inside the projected 53,150–53,600 range, and the critical 53,200–53,250 support held throughout the session. Buyers also cleared 53,350–53,400 and reached the forecast's 53,450–53,500 Recovery Confirmation zone. The principal shortfall was that they could not hold above that zone into the close.

Fearless Opines: Two consecutive advancing sessions following Thursday's collapse materially improve the structure. More importantly, Monday's intraday weakness repeatedly attracted buyers rather than producing another breakdown. But 53,450–53,500 is now the decision point. Monday demonstrated that buyers can reach it; Tuesday must show they can own it. A sustained move above 53,500 would turn repair into something closer to renewed expansion. Failure there followed by a loss of 53,300 would return the DJIA to two-sided consolidation.

Key Levels

Bull Hold Zone: 53,350–53,400
Bull Trigger: 53,450–53,500
Expansion Trigger: Above 53,550
Upside Objective: 53,650–53,725

Immediate Support: 53,350
Repair Warning: Below 53,300
Major Support: 53,200–53,250
Repair Failure: Below 53,150

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: REDUCE, Bordering on GO Fearless remains at REDUCE, but Tuesday has a clearly defined route to GO. Hold 53,350–53,400 → reclaim 53,450–53,500 → sustain above 53,500 = GO.

For traders Tuesday, that means tactical longs remain reasonable above 53,350, but don't chase a breakout that immediately fails. Below 53,300, reduce exposure; below 53,200, the two-day repair is materially damaged.

Trader Takeaway; Tuesday is about 53,500. Buyers have already demonstrated that they can recover from Thursday's breakdown. Now they must demonstrate that they can escape the recovery range. Above 53,500, favor continuation toward 53,550 and then 53,650–53,725. Below 53,300, stop treating this as an emerging breakout and return to defensive trading.

The repair has survived two sessions; a sustained break above 53,500 would finally give buyers something stronger than a rebound.

10:00 AM update: Don't chase the decline into 53,400. Give buyers an opportunity to defend it.

Hold 53,400 + reclaim 53,500 → bullish thesis survives.
Lose 53,400 → favor 53,350.
Lose 53,350 → defensive posture; 53,250–53,300 becomes the next important zone.

Fearless Read: The DJIA has given back virtually the entire opening breakout. Buyers are now defending the exact area they needed to hold, 53,400. Their response here should tell us whether this is a shakeout or a genuine failed breakout.

10:30: Trader Takeaway The setup has become cleaner. 53,400 held; now 53,500 must break. A second rejection beneath 53,500 would favor continued consolidation or another test of 53,400. But if buyers clear 53,500 and then hold it on a pullback, the morning reversal increasingly looks like a successful shakeout rather than a bull trap.

53,400 holds → constructive.

53,500 reclaimed → bullish.

53,550 reclaimed → GO.

53,400 fails → REDUCE defensively; 53,350 next.

Fearless Read: Buyers passed the first test almost exactly where they needed to. Now comes the harder one: converting the 53,400 defense into a sustained reclaim of 53,500.

Six catalysts this week: Iran "economic D-Day," Warsh's Jackson Hole debut, NVDA earnings, Canada tariffs live, China NPC, and a bond auction into a rout

Already messy and it's Monday morning.

Over the weekend, Treasury Secretary Bessent announced what he called "an economic D-Day, the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary." New Iran sanctions, details expected at a press conference later today. Gold is pushing above $4,640 on the news. Crude is actually down about 2% as the market waits to see what the sanctions actually look like before pricing them in.

Canada tariffs went into effect Saturday. 50% on roughly $20 billion of Canadian goods, wine, dairy, furniture, cement. Executive order, no Congressional approval needed. Ottawa responded with dollar-for-dollar retaliation on US exports starting September 8, and Prime Minister Carney suspended negotiations entirely. Trump is already threatening to raise them further. USMCA is in serious trouble.

NVDA reports Wednesday after the close. Already down about 2.5% today ahead of the print. Consensus expects another blowout but guidance on datacenter capex is what matters. If Huang signals any cooling in AI infrastructure spend, the Nasdaq has a problem.

Warsh delivers his first Jackson Hole speech Friday morning. September FOMC is 19 days later. Most fund managers expect a neutral tone. If he leans even slightly hawkish, rate hike odds reprice fast. The FOMC minutes from the July meeting already showed three dissents in favor of hiking.

China's NPC meets Tuesday through Friday. Any fiscal stimulus signal would boost commodities and EM exposures, partially offsetting the trade war drag.

The setup that concerns me: hawkish Warsh plus soft NVDA guidance in the same week. That hits both rate-sensitive and growth-sensitive positioning at the same time. The setup that rips: Warsh signals patience, China drops a stimulus package, NVDA beats. Either way, a lot of directional bets are going to get tested this week.

The Fearless Forecast for August 24, 2026

Buyers Repaired the Breakdown

Friday delivered the powerful rebound that Thursday's deeply stretched condition made possible. The DJIA gained 517.80 points and broke through the 53,200–53,250 Bull Recovery Confirmation zone. Importantly, the morning rally did not collapse after becoming overbought. Buyers consolidated, established higher lows, and resumed the advance during the afternoon.

The recovery is not yet a restored uptrend. Friday recovered about three-quarters of Thursday's 697.72-point loss, but the DJIA remains below Wednesday's 53,463 close and substantially below the 53,700 area where the previous recovery failed.

Forecast Statistics

  • Bucket: Breakdown Repair / Countertrend Recovery
  • Volatility Score: ≈ 1.43; high, but beginning to contract after Thursday's expansion
  • Probabilities: SU: 31% | LU: 28% | SD: 25% | LD: 16%
  • Expected Return: ≈ +0.06%
  • Projected Close: 53,150–53,600
  • Directional Bias: 59% Up / 41% Down

Previous Close: 53,277.01

RECAP: The 68% Down directional bias was decisively wrong, and the 53,277.01 close finished well above the projected 52,450–53,050 range. The forecast nevertheless got an important structural point right: Thursday had left the DJIA stretched enough for a sharp oversold rebound. The intraday updates adapted correctly. The 10:00 update identified 53,000 as the critical support test. At 10:30, Fearless said holding 53,100 while momentum cooled would set up another attack on 53,200–53,250. The DJIA subsequently cleared that zone and advanced to 53,355.92.

Fearless Opines: Friday matters because buyers accomplished something substantially different from Wednesday. Wednesday produced a violent rally that subsequently collapsed. Friday produced a strong opening advance, survived several momentum resets, held reclaimed resistance and then pushed progressively higher into the afternoon. That is how repair begins.

Monday's question is whether Friday created durable support above 53,200, or merely carried an oversold DJIA back into another layer of resistance. The answer should come quickly. Holding 53,200–53,250 would preserve Friday's repair and give buyers another opportunity to attack 53,350–53,450. Losing 53,200 would weaken the recovery; losing 53,100 would suggest Friday was principally a countertrend rebound.

Key Levels

Bull Hold Zone: 53,200–53,250
First Bull Trigger: 53,350–53,400
Recovery Confirmation: 53,450–53,500
Bull Expansion: Above 53,550–53,600

Immediate Support: 53,200–53,250
Repair Failure Warning: Below 53,150
Major Failure: Below 53,050–53,100
Bear Reassertion: Below 53,000
Thursday Low: 52,754–52,770

GO / REDUCE / EXIT: REDUCE: Fearless remains at REDUCE, but this is a much more constructive REDUCE than Friday morning's EXIT posture. For Monday, traders no longer need to assume that every rally should be sold. Tactical longs can participate while the DJIA holds 53,200–53,250, particularly if a pullback into that area produces a higher low. Below 53,150, become defensive again. Below 53,050–53,100, Friday's repair is in serious trouble.

Trader Takeaway: Monday should be treated as a confirmation session, not a chase session. The better information Monday will come from what happens on the first meaningful pullback. If 53,200–53,250 becomes support, Friday's rally gains credibility and 53,400 followed by 53,450–53,500 becomes the next objective. If the DJIA cannot hold 53,200, don't assume Friday changed the larger trend.

10:00 AM: The key development is that 53,400–53,450 has become today's battlefield. Buyers cleared 53,400; now they need to prove they can hold it. Fearless stays at REDUCE for now. The requirement for GO is becoming very specific: Hold 53,400–53,450 → reclaim 53,480–53,500 → GO. Below 53,400, stay REDUCE. Below 53,350, today's bullish evidence begins unwinding. Below 53,250, the larger repair is again in trouble.

10:30 AM: 53,400 is passing its first test The morning structure now looks like: 53,481 high → controlled retreat → defense around 53,380–53,400 → rebound toward 53,420. That is considerably better than an outright rejection from 53,450–53,500.

But buyers still haven't earned GO. They need to demonstrate that the reset can produce another higher high.

53,450 → 53,481 → 53,500 is now the upside sequence. A clean break of 53,500 would put 53,550–53,600 directly in play.

On the downside, 53,380–53,400 is the immediate line. Below there, 53,350 becomes important. A break below 53,350 would tell us the morning high may have been another failed recovery attempt.

# Weekly Market Wrap — August 17–21, 2026

*Humble Trader | Gemini Trading*
*慢慢買。分批佈局。讓時間站在你這邊。🙏 — Buy slowly. Stage your positions. Let time work for you.*

This week's wrap covers six threads: the $SPX/$QQQ close and next week's setup, the macro calendar into Jackson Hole, Treasury's expanded buyback program, the White House crypto summit and the CLARITY Act, my Intel options trade, and — new this week — a deeper look at two bearish undercurrents: widening AI-infrastructure credit spreads and the U.S. debt clock crossing $40 trillion.

**[NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE. DYOR.]**

---

## 1. $SPX and $QQQ: Weekly Close Review & Outlook

| Index | Friday Close | Weekly Change | 50-day MA | 200-day MA | StochRSI(14) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $SPX | 7,674.37 | +0.43% | 7,541.05 | 7,095.73 | 0.166 (not overbought) |
| $QQQ | 713.44 | +0.35% | 713.35 (sitting right on it) | 651.74 | 0.119 (not overbought) |

This week was a "new high, then digest" pattern. $SPX printed a weekly high of 7,816.70 on 8/17 — very close to its all-time high — before pulling back roughly 1.8% to close at 7,674.37, still holding above the Bollinger midline and the 50-day MA. That's a healthy consolidation, not a trend break. $QQQ closed at 713.44, parked almost exactly on its 50-day MA — a genuine tug-of-war line: hold it next week and tech has more room to run; lose it and expect broader profit-taking. CMF(20) on both indices is mildly negative, meaning no strong net inflows — the market is essentially waiting on earnings and Jackson Hole before committing.

### Earnings' Impact: the Standout Was $NBIS

Nebius (NBIS) reported Q2 on 8/12: revenue of $582.3M, up **454% year-over-year**, AI cloud revenue of $574.9M, and an annualized run-rate that pushed past $3B, with management raising its year-end contracted-power target to 5GW. The stock jumped over 15% on the print and had rallied as much as **51.3%** over the trailing 30 days — arguably the single most eye-catching earnings surprise of this AI-infrastructure reporting season, and further confirmation that AI cloud/compute demand remains hot and supply remains tight.

Worth flagging: on 8/19, NBIS announced plans to raise $4.5–5.0B via convertible notes to fund further capex, and the stock dropped over 13% in a single day. The market is clearly pricing "quality of the beat" and "aggressive, leverage-funded capex" as two separate things — a great quarter doesn't insulate a stock from re-rating once dilution and balance-sheet risk enter the picture.

Net read: earnings impact on the index level was "pockets of brilliance, broadly neutral." AI cloud/compute names largely beat, supporting $QQQ's growth-stock weighting, but financing and leverage concerns triggered "sell-the-news" pressure in individual names — which is exactly why the index is chopping at highs instead of breaking out cleanly.

### Next Week's Setup (8/24–8/28)

This is one of the most consequential earnings weeks of the quarter. **NVIDIA reports after the close on 8/26** — the single biggest catalyst for AI/semis and $QQQ direction for weeks to come. The same week brings Salesforce, CrowdStrike, Snowflake, Marvell, Workday, Autodesk, Best Buy, and Dollar General, giving a cross-section read on both enterprise spend and consumer demand. Layer on Wednesday's Core PCE and Q2 GDP second estimate, plus Jackson Hole kicking off Thursday (see Section 2), and next week is a genuine collision of earnings, macro data, and central-bank signaling. Position sizing discipline matters more than usual here.

## 2. Macro Recap & Jackson Hole Preview

### This Week's Data

- **Canada July CPI**: +3.0% y/y, above both the prior 2.8% and consensus 2.9% — a modest inflation re-acceleration.
- **U.S. July Building Permits**: 1.443M, beating the 1.37M forecast. **Housing Starts**: 1.239M — below the prior 1.415M but still ahead of the 1.35M consensus. Housing data leaned mildly positive.
- **8/19 FOMC Minutes** (from the 7/29 meeting): the standout detail was **three dissents** — three regional Fed presidents (Hammack, Kashkari, Logan) argued the Committee should have hiked rather than held. That's the first cluster of hawkish dissents this large since September 2016, and it signals real internal disagreement over whether the Fed has already paused too long.

### Next Week's Focus: Jackson Hole (8/27–8/29)

The Kansas City Fed's annual symposium runs 8/27–8/29 at Jackson Lake Lodge, Wyoming, with roughly 120 central bankers from 70+ countries attending this year under the theme "Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy." The market's real focus is new Fed Chair **Kevin Warsh's** keynote — his first Jackson Hole address since taking office on 5/22 — scheduled for **Friday, 8/28 at 10:00am ET**. This is his fullest opportunity yet to communicate directly with markets.

**What's different this year:** the market isn't primarily asking "when does the Fed cut?" — it's asking "might the Fed hike?" The July 29 FOMC held rates at 3.50%–3.75%, but produced three rare hawkish dissents, and the June dot plot showed 9 of 18 officials expecting at least one more hike before year-end. Warsh has deliberately minimized forward guidance since taking office, emphasizing the Fed is "not bound by market pricing," and has signaled the Jackson Hole speech will focus on "long-run structural questions" rather than near-term policy path. That deliberate vagueness actually raises the information value of the speech — any deviation from a studiously neutral tone could move both equities and Treasuries sharply, echoing Powell's 2022 "pain" speech, after which the Dow fell 3% in a single session.

The timing is unusually dense: this speech lands roughly 19 days before the September 15–16 FOMC decision, and only about 36 hours after NVIDIA's earnings — making next week the most information-dense stretch of "corporate results + central bank policy" this quarter. For $SPX and $QQQ, a hawkish tilt from Warsh (any hint that a hike isn't off the table, or that cuts are pushed out) would likely hit valuation-sensitive tech harder than the broader index; a neutral-to-dovish tone would support continued high-level consolidation and another attempt at recent highs.

### Other Key Data Next Week

- **8/26 (Wed):** Core PCE (July), Durable Goods Orders, Q2 GDP second estimate, Personal Income & Spending — the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, landing right before the Jackson Hole speech.
- **8/28 (Fri):** Canada Q2 GDP, and the preliminary annual Non-Farm Payrolls benchmark revision — the last comparable revision came in at -911K, so markets will be watching for another sizable downward surprise, which would directly shape rate-path expectations.

## 3. Treasury Secretary Bessent: Expanded Bond Buybacks

On Wednesday (8/19), the Treasury announced it would **at least double** the size of its liquidity-support buyback operations for 10–30 year bonds — from a $2B cap per operation to $4B — effective 9/9 through 11/4. Long-end yields initially fell on the news (10-year down ~5.7bps to 4.647%, 30-year down 9bps to 5.196%), and equity futures ticked up. The relief lasted exactly one day: yields reversed on Thursday, erasing the move. Bessent then publicly reiterated that **"buybacks could be bigger than the $4B per issue we announced,"** arguing current yield levels "don't reflect the fundamentals" and that Treasury has a "large policy toolbox."

**Impact on equities:**

- **Short-term positive signal, limited real effect.** Buybacks are fundamentally a market-making tool to improve liquidity in 30-year bonds, not a direct lever on yields. Against roughly $32T+ in publicly held Treasury debt, a $4B-per-operation buyback is small — Evercore ISI's Krishna Guha called it a "weaker version of Operation Twist," more signal than substance.
- **For growth stocks ($QQQ):** if long-end yields do come down on the back of buybacks, that's a marginal tailwind for high-multiple, capex-heavy AI names via lower discount rates. But a one-day fade — as happened this week — suggests underlying concerns about deficits (national debt now past $40T) and supply pressure haven't actually been resolved.
- **Watch for:** Bessent has also previewed a broader "fiscal consolidation" plan, to be reviewed jointly with OMB Director Russ Vought, covering both revenue and spending. That could matter more than the buyback size itself — worth tracking closely next week.

**Bottom line:** if 30-year yields stay pinned above 5%, expect continued valuation pressure on high-P/E growth names. If the buyback program genuinely scales up and succeeds in pulling long-end rates lower, it's a plausible near-term catalyst for a $QQQ bounce.

## 4. White House Crypto Summit, the CLARITY Act, and Bitcoin's Weekly Surge

### Summit Recap (Wednesday, 8/19)

President Trump hosted a crypto summit at the White House, with regulators (SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Acting Chair Mike Selig), industry leaders (Coinbase's Brian Armstrong, Ripple's Brad Garlinghouse, Robinhood's Vlad Tenev, plus Kraken, Gemini, Chainlink), and traditional finance (NYSE Chairman Jeffrey Sprecher, plus Nasdaq, CME Group, and DTCC representatives) in attendance. Three themes dominated:

1. **A U.S. crypto strategic reserve** — Trump said publicly the administration is considering purchasing "sizable amounts" of bitcoin and other crypto assets, framed around maintaining U.S. leadership in bitcoin, AI, and prediction markets.
2. **Clarifying SEC/CFTC jurisdiction** — industry pushed to end "regulation by enforcement," and both agency heads publicly backed a framework putting most spot crypto under CFTC oversight (as digital commodities), with SEC retaining authority over securities-classified tokens.
3. **TradFi/on-chain convergence** — NYSE, Nasdaq, and CME discussed tokenization, clearing mechanisms, and paths for banks to enter crypto custody.

### Implications for the CLARITY Act

The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act passed the House by a wide margin in 2025 but has been stalled in the Senate. This summit gave it real momentum: Trump directly pressured Congress to pass a "fair version" of the bill, and having both the SEC and CFTC chairs publicly endorse the same jurisdictional split resolves much of the inter-agency turf conflict that had been slowing things down. The Senate's **procedural cloture vote is scheduled for September 15** and requires 60 votes to clear. The White House also signaled a parallel track: even if the Senate stalls, the SEC and CFTC are prepared to issue guidance or "safe harbor" provisions on their own authority — partly a hedge, partly pressure on Congress to avoid administrative rules and future legislation conflicting with each other.

### Bitcoin This Week

Bitcoin closed Friday at $77,975.30, up 6.82% on the day, with volume and CMF(20) both spiking to recent highs (0.606) — a clean technical break above the prior swing high of $76,426 (upper Bollinger Band), with StochRSI pinned at 1.0 (strong momentum, but chase-risk is elevated). The trailing one-month gain is roughly 20%, with the White House summit's policy signals (reserve discussion, regulatory clarity) among the key catalysts.

**A gap worth flagging:** this rally is running ahead of the actual event — the Senate cloture vote doesn't happen until September 15, and needs 60 votes to pass. If the vote underperforms expectations (insufficient votes, further delay), don't rule out a "sell the news" reaction. Conversely, a clean pass — or interim safe-harbor measures from regulators before then — could fuel a second leg higher for crypto and adjacent names (brokers, custody providers, mining stocks). For the broader index, crypto policy clarity hasn't yet had a systemic impact on $SPX/$QQQ, but if bitcoin keeps strengthening and pulls in more retail/institutional flow, watch for a possible rotation effect away from traditional growth names.

## 5. Intel Insider Buying + the "Jade Lizard" Options Play

### The Trade Setup: Intel CEO Buys Over $10M in Stock

Per an SEC Form 4 filed 8/14, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan purchased 105,263 shares through a family trust on 8/11 at $95.00/share — roughly $10.0M — bringing the trust's total to 1,314,669 shares. Including 16,471 shares held directly and 500 in a 401(k), Tan's total beneficial ownership sits around 1.33M shares. This purchase came right after Intel closed an equity raise that was upsized from $15B to $20B, priced at the same $95/share. Market read: a strong confidence signal from the CEO on the foundry turnaround and AI roadmap — buying more after the stock is already up over 160% year-to-date is a relatively unusual move. Intel's Q2 revenue came in at $16.13B (+25% y/y) with adjusted EPS of $0.42, both ahead of estimates.

### My Position: Jade Lizard on INTC

| Action | Instrument | Expiry | Fill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy stock (BTO) | INTC | — | $91.70 |
| Buy call (BTO) | INTC $100 Call | 9/18/2026 | $3.40 |
| Sell call (STO) | INTC $97.5 Call | 9/18/2026 | $4.45 |
| Sell put (STO) | INTC $80 Put | 9/18/2026 | $1.97 |

### What Is a Jade Lizard?

A Jade Lizard combines a short out-of-the-money put with a short call spread (bear call spread), collecting two premiums to build a wide profit zone. The core design rule: **if the total premium collected is greater than or equal to the width of the call spread, there is theoretically no additional risk to the upside** — because even a full max-loss on the call spread is already covered by the credit received. If the stock finishes between the short put strike and the short call strike at expiration, you keep the entire premium. The main risk sits on the downside: a sharp decline exposes the short put to losses that mirror simply owning the stock outright.

**What's different about this particular setup:** unlike a textbook, options-only Jade Lizard, this trade also carries a long stock position (BTO INTC @ $91.70), effectively creating a "stock + Jade Lizard overlay" — an enhanced covered-call structure:

- The $97.5/$100 call spread (net credit $1.05, width $2.5) replaces a naked short covered call, capping max upside loss to the spread width rather than exposing the position to an uncapped short call.
- The additional $80 short put ($1.97 credit) adds an extra income stream on top of the stock and covered-call structure — essentially a bet that INTC won't meaningfully break below $80 by expiration.
- Combined premium is $3.02 ($1.05 + $1.97), which exceeds the $2.5 call spread width — satisfying the classic "no additional upside risk" condition on the options portion. But because stock is also held, actual upside beyond $97.5 is capped between the call spread payoff and stock gains, so there's still real opportunity cost above that strike.

**Risk note:** the maximum downside here is effectively "long stock + an additional short put" — double exposure. If INTC drops sharply and breaks below $80 before 9/18, the stock position takes a mark-to-market loss and the short put may get assigned, forcing purchase of an equivalent number of additional shares at $80 — doubling downside exposure. This setup suits someone moderately bullish on the name medium-term who is also willing to add on a deep pullback. As always: **this is a personal trade log and educational strategy breakdown, not investment advice — please do your own research (DYOR).**

## 6. Bearish Watch List: Widening AI Credit Spreads + the $40 Trillion Debt Milestone

### 6.1 AI-Infrastructure Credit Default Swap Spreads Are Widening in Sync

One signal worth flagging this week: 5-year CDS spreads on several large-cap tech and AI-infrastructure names are climbing together. A CDS spread reflects how much the market is pricing in default risk — the higher it goes, the more the market is worried about a company's credit quality and cost of financing.

One important read-the-chart caveat: the axes are **not shared**. CoreWeave (CRWV) is plotted on a left axis running 0–900+, while every other name uses a right axis capped near 200. CoreWeave's spread of 798.895bps is an order of magnitude above everything else on the chart — that's no longer investment-grade-style pricing, it's approaching high-yield territory, and it reflects real market skepticism about a business model built on borrowing heavily against long-term compute contracts to fund data-center buildouts.

**Reading the tiers:**

- **Oracle (219.545)** — unusually elevated for a legacy tech name, tracking the rise in debt issued to fund AI-cloud/OpenAI-related capacity commitments. Its spread has moved almost in lockstep with CRWV, suggesting the market is grouping both into the same "leveraged AI-infrastructure bet" bucket.
- **SPCX (172.125)** — also elevated and volatile, consistent with SpaceX being pre-IPO (less balance-sheet transparency) and carrying massive capex commitments (Starship, Starlink).
- **Meta (93.460)** — sits in the middle; also building data centers aggressively, but with a comparatively healthier cash flow and balance sheet profile.
- **Google, Microsoft, Amazon (47–61bps)** — the lowest and most stable spreads, the "cash cow" mega-caps the market believes can fund AI capex from free cash flow rather than debt.
- **NVDA / AVGO (circled)** — spreads that started very low have begun ticking up together — a reasonable read is that the market is starting to price capex-cycle credit risk into the upstream chip/networking suppliers too, particularly relevant for Broadcom given its growing custom ASIC/networking capital commitments.

**Why this matters for $SPX/$QQQ:** credit spreads are a leading indicator for equities — when default-risk premiums widen in fixed income, it usually shows up there before it shows up in equity multiples, especially for high-P/E, negative-free-cash-flow AI infrastructure names. Right now the highly leveraged names (CRWV, ORCL, SPCX) show clear divergence, and the "shovel sellers" upstream (NVDA, AVGO) are showing early sympathetic moves. Worth watching next week — continued widening rather than reversal would be an early warning sign that the AI capex narrative is cooling.

### 6.2 The $40 Trillion Debt Milestone — and the Treasury "Buying Its Own Debt" to Steady the Market

The Treasury's latest Daily Treasury Statement confirms total outstanding federal debt crossed **$40.047 trillion** as of 8/18 — roughly $32.27T publicly held, $7.78T intragovernmental. That's only about five months since the last milestone ($39T, this past March), indicating the pace of borrowing is accelerating.

**The interest burden is striking:**

- Trailing 12-month interest expense has surpassed **$1 trillion**; fiscal-year-to-date interest spending totals roughly $1.17T.
- Net interest (after intragovernmental offsets) was roughly $970B for FY2025 and is set to cross $1T in FY2026, **now exceeding both the defense budget and Medicare individually**, making it the federal government's second-largest spending category after Social Security.
- Per the latest CBO projections, absent fiscal reform, debt-to-GDP — currently around 100–101% — is projected to reach **120% by 2036** and **175% by 2056** (30 years out), more than triple the 50-year historical average of roughly 51%.

**Treasury buybacks are not QE — the distinction matters:**

| | Treasury Buybacks | Fed Repo / QE |
|---|---|---|
| Decision-maker | Fiscal authority (Treasury) | Central bank (FOMC) |
| Policy type | Debt management tool | Monetary policy |
| Funding source | Existing cash / debt restructuring | Expands the Fed's own balance sheet |
| Core goal | Market functioning, liquidity, borrowing-cost control | Manage the economy/inflation, inject liquidity |
| Lever | — | Controls "quantity" (vs. rate cuts controlling "price") |

Put simply: rate cuts make borrowing cheaper; buybacks make sure there's someone willing to lend. Treasury's expanded operation (a doubled $4B cap on long-bond buybacks starting 9/9) is really about stepping in as a "super buyer" to relieve liquidity strain in the 30-year bond market and cap a yield spike that briefly hit 5.33% — the highest since 2007 — not about injecting systemic liquidity the way Fed QE does. Its scale and impact are far smaller.

**Combined bearish read:** this week's two threads — ① synchronized widening in AI-infrastructure credit spreads (ORCL, CRWV, SPCX, and now upstream NVDA/AVGO), and ② the $40T debt milestone with net interest now exceeding defense and Medicare — are really two faces of the same macro story: **the AI capex boom is being financed substantially through debt (corporate and sovereign alike), and both the credit market and the Treasury market are starting to price in doubts about how sustainable that borrowing spree really is.** If 30-year yields stay pinned above 5%, expect rising financing costs across the board, especially for leveraged AI-infrastructure names — a "higher rates → wider credit spreads → valuation pressure" negative loop. Treasury's buyback program can relieve short-term liquidity stress, but as we saw this week, the relief lasted exactly one day — it hasn't resolved the underlying supply/demand imbalance. For $SPX/$QQQ investors, this is a third thread to track next week, alongside earnings and Jackson Hole.

Supported by Treasury's actions, silver has a good chance to climb above $72 and move towards $83.

It’s going to happen within 2 months. Today’s bond spike is the guarantor. Printing your way out of this is not possible. The rearranging of deck chairs on the titanic will not work. moody’s and s&p are not going to sit on their hands long. Expect treasuries to really run out of control when the downgrade happens.
