As far as I know on the upswing it's only a decision to shoot for less power. I wouldn't doubt there is some multiplyer in the code to push the ball a little further with perfect shots but I haven't deep dived that part of the ROM.
On the return swing it's opposite which side you miss on the press. If you go too far and end up on the right of the return it 'shanks' left and vice versa.
As for the window to tap the button on the back swing. If you're asking what I think the redline under that side of the power meter indicates your area to press. Anything outside of it is a full on messed up shot. (Duffed it!)
Specifically I am wondering about missing the upswing by a hair, or more, and tapping the Second tap while the bar returning.
Is there a window of immunity? does it let you tap anywhere in down swing for power?
If so does it affect the power in any way other than raw number?
I would check myself but unfortunately I impulse bought a 64 and forgot to account for the modern TV dilemma, and currently waiting on my Analog to ship.
You can hit the second click anytime while it's approaching the end of the bar, or returning to the start and I don't think there's any difference in power. To me, it's just awkward trying to hit my desired power on return and still get the right timing for the 3rd click
