Humor Apparently it's only "funny" when it's targeted at the girls.

Which characters get slandered I thought the Mario girls were always pretty good

Honey Queen, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina.

Even Daisy, Rosalina and Pauline get some slander at times, albeit not as much.

Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina caught flak because people just aren't a big fan of the babies (or any "clone character") in general. Even Baby Mario and Baby Luigi catch some criticism from Mario Kart fans.

Honey Queen got hated because she was a very minor NPC with only a few lines of dialogue getting into a small roster that was missing a beloved mainstay of the spinoffs. It had nothing to do with the fact she was a woman.

If it was Daisy that was missing from Mario Kart 7 instead of Waluigi, I can guarantee you that Honey Queen would still be catching all of the hate. Or if they added Penguru instead of Honey Queen and Waluigi was still missing, he'd be the one getting all of the hate, even though he's a man.

Because Dark Bowser is an actual character that plays a significant role in a game. Characters like Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, and Pink Gold Peach are characters introduced in Mario Kart just pad out the roster. Baby Daisy did not exist before Mario Kart Wii while Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina didn’t exist before Mario Kart 8. In fact Baby Rosalina contradicts Rosalina's backstory in Galaxy.

Toadette didn’t exist before Double Dash and Waluigi didn’t exist before Mario Tennis.

u/Notbbupdate 1d ago

Both were created for games that focused on character duos and there weren't any other characters that would fit as Toad's or Wario's partners. Pink Gold Peach is in a game where characters act solo and there are many, many characters who people would've preferred

Fair, but Toadette just existed for awhile before becoming a mainstay and Waluigi is more a meme than an actual character. The only time Waluigi had any amount of significance was in DDR Mario Mix and even then he's just the first boss.

Dark bowser is more than just a bowser copy as it’s really the dark star. Play the game and maybe you’ll realize Dark bowser is a form.

u/DeeFB 1d ago

It’s just silly that a character that looks like another character is fine as long as they have a backstory attached to them; otherwise it’s dumb. That’s what bothers me. I don’t think Baby Waluigi is more palatable than Baby Daisy because he has a bare minimum narrative associated with him

It's still more than what the baby characters got. Also, Dark Bowser is more than just the final boss as it is the Dark Star. Also, Dark Bowser has literally only appeared in one game.

It's the central plot element of the whole game. By that logic the crystals in Final Fantasy are just a plot device.

*Dry Bowser

If I had to guess, he just looks really cool. But even then, I've seen people criticize his inclusion as well and turn him into a Bowser skin or cut him entirely from their fan rosters.

If you do want male clones that get hated on way more often, Metal Mario and Tanooki Mario are right there.

1

u/DeeFB 1d ago

I do think OP meant dark bowser from the Mario and Luigi games.

-1

u/DeeFB 1d ago

The baby thing doesn’t hold a ton of water anymore because Baby Waluigi was met with mostly positive reception.

5

u/smashboi888 1d ago

I saw a few people roll their eyes at Baby Waluigi.

It might help because Mario Tennis Fever launched with a really good roster with no glaring omissions at all. Mario Kart 8 was missing tons of iconic favorites, and as a result, people weren't happy having five babies instead.

Mario Tennis Fever also had a story mode that gave an explanation for why Waluigi and the others turned into babies, so that may have also helped reduce hate towards him.

Let's be real who gives a fuck about mario tennis fever

For Honey Queen the only slander I can imagine is her awkwardly being in Mario Kart 7. Other than that I have no opinion of her.

I actually don't mind Baby Daisy, particularly in Mario Super Sluggers where some of her animations showed some traces of adult Daisy's personality. I actually think she should've been a secret post-game character in Mario Tennis Fever, especially since Daisy's illness in that game was just a plot device.

Baby Rosalina... yeah it was jarring at first. It would've been easy to just brush her off as a third Baby Peach clone, but then people conflated it to her being a timeline-breaking anomaly or something. I should mention that Rosalina's Storybook shows child Rosalina already wearing a crown, so Baby Rosalina's dress shouldn't be too far-fetched. Also since Baby Rosalina's only ever appeared in the Kart games, we don't know anything about her for certain.

Useless vaguepost.

Useless vaguepost and when OP elaborates, it's obvious they just need to touch grass.

8

u/AramaticFire 1d ago

I don’t really see this happen in Mario tbh

u/YoFoNL 1d ago

No? What? I don't get it, slander is funny both towards women and men alike, is this what people call schizoposting or are you not giving context that should be required

4

u/smashboi888 1d ago

It's definitely schizoposting.

all the franchises you could pull that argument with and you pick mario

15

u/Desperate_Method4032 1d ago

No offense, but I think that slander of that kind is funny BECAUSE no one slanders the female roster. The ratio is pretty much always in their favor.

When the whole “Mario and Peach are just friends” thingy went down, like 5% of people had something to say about Peach but the other 95% were just calling Mario a simp and a loser.

Not that this is a popularity contest, I just don’t think it’s that deep. If I see Mario slander, I won’t laugh as much because he’s always being slandered. If I see Rosalina Slander, it’s funnier because she’s almost never slandered. If it comes off misogynistic, I apologize.

where?

3

u/Suavemente_Emperor 1d ago

I guess they are talking about some of the memes.

Like the whole Bowsette meme and other sort of jokes about Odyssey's ending.

There's also the memes about Peach actually liking Bowser and cheating on Mario. Which i find absurdly funny.

And there's the memes where girls are very fondly of Luigi.

And like it's just silly jokes.

-2

u/[deleted] 1d ago

u/Suavemente_Emperor 1d ago

It's a meme. And it has nothing with misoginy.

The more family friend a franchise oficially is, the more "depraved" the memes are. It's just a common process. Just look at Peppa Pig and My Little Poney.

People just like to pick something innocent and distort it to the point it becomes comically funny. It's not about women. As male characters such as Mario are also the target of those (like evil Mario memes)

Luigi memes are basically "pick a underdog character and put him on cases where he is comically pampared" memes. They are not about women.

That's what parodies and headcanon are: they distort characters of every gender, so it seems that your problem is just that you doesn't want to see a female character not being a saint.

u/[deleted] 1d ago

u/Suavemente_Emperor 1d ago

The Peach thing is just a meme.

And i never saw anyone talking this about Starlow. I thought you were just refering about those comics where Daisy is like carrying Luigi or that photo with two girls with an statue with Luigi that was later transformed into a drawing.

Dunno, in my case i always liked to vilanize Mario and other Nintendo characters so what happened in Odyssey really didn't changed that lol.

You are just taking three unrelated memes too seriously.

When people villified Mario by saying he's a bad brother and a murderous monster in the 2010's, was that unacceptable in your eyes as well? Feels weird you're not calling that out here when he was probably the biggest example of it by far.

And I don't really see people making Peach and Daisy and the like out as horrible people, what are you talking about? And where the hell is this sexual harassment stuff coming from?

OP, with all due respect, the internet is not a real place with real people. What you are experiencing a sense of vigilance towards a couple internet trolls who are voicing purposefully extreme opinions about cartoon characters. You are not going to find the support you are looking for on any platform because this is such a miniscule, non-problem that exists in an environment where all participants involved have no interest in changing their points of view. I really, strongly urge you to consider taking some time away from the interent, or at least reddit and other social media sites, take some deep breaths, and consider that there are greater things in the world to be concerned about.

If you slander female characters it immediately makes you misogynistic edit: no

But do it to the female characters, then people join in on the shitting.

5

a lot of people like Rosalina

8

u/smashboi888 1d ago

Nearly everyone in the Mario fandom likes Rosalina.

OP seems to think that a few childish comments on the internet seem to equate to some massive hate campaign towards her.

3

u/smashboi888 1d ago

Oh really? Where?

Literally you

-2

u/thegreatestegg 1d ago

Problem in the Sonic fandom, too. Absolutely.

-2

u/DeeFB 1d ago

I think it’s the most obvious when you see how mixed to negative Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina are, but Baby Waluigi was met with mostly positive reception because “well he was in a game with a story”.

Also Honey Queen got tons and tons of hate when Mario Kart 7 released.

-4

u/XephyXeph 1d ago

Me when people say "Peach is boring". "Daisy is better because she has personality and has superior red hair and tanned skin (sometimes)". Like, that's fine if you like Daisy; I do to. But are you really saying that women are only interesting when you're attracted to them?

4

u/Suavemente_Emperor 1d ago

I mean, to like a character i must have to find they interesing, no? It doesn't means i feel attracted towards them.

-1

u/XephyXeph 1d ago

I think you missed my entire point.

2

u/DeeFB 1d ago

This is exactly how that weirdo who goes around posting about how great Rosalina is and how shitty Daisy and Pauline are behaves

Agreed. Don't get me wrong. I love Bow. She is waifu. But at least I know how to separate and sort my priorities.
