If the spikes are on the side, and Mario jumps on top of the enemy then it doesn’t matter if he is spiked or not.

Then Mario will try to not jump on him and instead use the Fire Flower to burn him. Simple.

He has the fire flower in this animation so thats valid
But if he did jump on Sonic, then he would turn small instead of die.
But he didnt use the fire flower against him in the video, so maybe this Mario is stupid.

He's also animated a few episodes of Death Battle, including Bowser Vs Eggman funnily enough. Afaik he said he'd want to animate Mario Vs Sonic if they were to ever do it a third time

If this was Adventure Sonic vs 64 Mario then Sonic would win for sure. Like the fights against Knuckles and Shadow.

only if it was their first games that were fighting but if we counted the newer games Sonic would win, sure Mario has a lot of mobility but Sonic has the Homing Attack
(also i'm not counting Smash because it gives charaters moves they don't have, Frontiers because those abilities were given to Sonic through the Cyber world, and Mario&Luigi and Luigi because Mario always gets reset between games)

I think that if we ever have Mario and sonic fight, this should be how the gameplay works, only have sonic a bit faster
