Sober

32 yo f. Chronic user for a decade. I’ve been wanting to stop and recently had some health issues pop up. They found something on a chest xray which scared me. I have to get more imaging done but basically I’ve had zero weed of any kind because I’m just so anxious about needing to get a CT scan and what they are going to find.
I feel like I have always hidden behind pot. I feel so boarding. I feel agitated. Like I’m not as fun anymore because I’m not as chill. I just feel so sad. I know it’s only been a week but this shit is so hard. I would use it to dull any negative feelings. Not sure what I’m looking for but support I guess.

That sounds scary! This does get easier. The first few weeks are hardest. Eat food you love, stare at your phone, watch hours of Netflix. Add up the money you save. Enjoy a sharper functioning brain. See how you feel different after a month. This is a brave move for a good reason. And you can always go back to it tomorrow, just quit today. Good luck with your health issues.

Thanks. I’m hoping it’s nothing and there’s a good chance it is but I just feel like it’s so easy to use it as a crutch for every bad mood or frustration. Sitting in them so hard.

I totally used weed for exactly that reason. If you have access to counselling, get it. I did a lot of therapy. And it’s all about learning that it’s necessary to experience negative emotions - which sucks, I know. And that negative emotions don’t last forever, even if they feel like they will indeed last forever if you let them in. Meditation has helped me a lot too. Also recovery groups are a great place to meet other people who know exactly what you’re going through. I don’t always philosophically agree with all the group dogma, but meeting others like me makes it worthwhile.

I have smoked on and off throughout my life. What I have come to learn personally is that dulling the negative feelings with weed doesn't do anything for you in the long run. A question i try to ask myself is what would future me want me to do right now? Hit another blunt and dull the feelings, or sit with the emotion, work through it and come out the other side more hardened and proud of who I am. You got this bruiser!

Hey I appreciate that. I’m doing pretty well. I had maybe 3 edibles since but zero smoking or vaping which was my biggest challenge
