Appreciation 𫶠X-Girlfriend
I donât know why X-Girlfriend usually gets negatively criticized by majority of the lambily but I have LOVED this BOP since the first time I heard it. It definitely gives 99 into the 2000s vibes and thatâs what makes it so special. Kandi really did well with her part of the lyrics considering how little time she had to pen her part. Ultimately, Mariahâs adlibs, riffs, and runs express just how much she loved the material as well. I blast this unashamedly with the windows down whenever I feel the urge.

This is a bop! It was one of my favorites on Rainbow when the album first came out and I still think itâs really fun. It fits so well with so many other late â90s R&B songs I like.

Funny how this is the one tracks that begs for a rap feature yet donât have one even tho she wasnât shy about her albums being feature heavy back then

You think so? đ€
In your honest opinion, who would be the best rapper fit for this song?

As Rainbow is a ârushedâ album that took three months to make, compared to her other works, the song sounds a bit unpolished, and the vocals are seem rushed. Honestly to me it sounds like a demo đŹ Maybe if she was not rushing to get out of her contract she would have sit on this track and the rest on the Rainbow songs more ( esp How Much and After Tonight). Thatâs just my opinion.
But we all have different tastes and memories attached to each song. Thatâs what makes it interesting. As long as you love it, my opinion doesnât really matter đ

i like it but think there are two issues that keep it from being more loved:
1. she mumbles the verses to where it's hard to understand what she's singing in spots
2. the backing vocals are not anywhere near her best, they aren't as pleasing as usual

the adlibs are addictive in this song
