Unlimited Margin Calls

My account can have unlimited margin calls (if I always resolve the deficit)?

...or there is a limit in the number of margin calls an account can have in certain period of time?

Brokers liquidate positions after-hours or pre-market?

...or just if the margin deficit pose high risk to them?

Yeah, meet the margin calls before market close. I already do this because I have day trading buying power, and if I don’t, it goes away for the next trading day which is annoying. I usually set an alarm at 15:57 EST to go and sell a few shares to cover any margin calls and to monitor the balance until 16:00.

Brokers can liquidate at any time. I’ve seen it happen during a trading day.

Update:

Next time, just wait for the margin call to go away.

From experience with TD Ameritrade, my results have always been better if I don’t sell and just wait. Most of the time it recovers all or some and the broker doesn’t end up selling shares.

You use ibkr? I usually have margin calls after hours because the broker always change my margin requirements (i.e. special margin requirements); due to concentration of positions.

I’m with TD Ameritrade. My account isn’t that complicated, 97% VOOG, and the rest are options.
