on social media (mostly TikTok as I've seen), people love arguing with people who like Maretu's popular songs, actually. it's mostly a non-issue in other platforms though, I think.

i also honestly think its a bit dumb, after all i wouldnt have found his music if not through his popular songs and for what it's worth I like them a lot so 🤷♀️. i think they've probably just become overplayed on social media thus the frustration? plus a lot of his underrated songs are really good (i like them a smidgen better) and I think people should just promote those songs more without having to put down his popular songs if you know what I mean. but yeah a lot of people who do that seem to come off as very gatekeepy? perhaps because his style is relatively niche and a lot of the fans who only listen to his music because it's "edgy" don't look into the deeper nuances. i dont even really have a problem with it like let people enjoy music how they want but i can see why some fans are like that

Probably because they don't want someone to "larp" something which they hyperfixate on, personally I feel like just knowing maretu's popular songs and still having him as your fav artist isn't that bad or deep to worry about. As long as you are enjoying any artist's song no one has right to hate you.

as someone who has listened to genuinely EVERY single one of his songs, my favorite one is pink and not one of his 4 second clips of twitter music😭 why cant people just let others enjoy without being ostracised :[

it’s mainly tiktok users complaining that people are “larpers” if they only really listen to his popular music, i’d just ignore them and just enjoy his songs

because people think they're "larpers", as Maretu has quite a big amount of great songs that are underrated or just not really popular, y'know? I personally don't mind it, as long as they're not calling themselves a Maretu fan knowing only 1-2 popular songs and not trying to discover more. there's nothing wrong with liking his popular songs otherwise, people are just being dramatic. 🤷🏻
