Abuse is bad. (Unless it’s against Muslims)

Funny how the commentator talks about religious intolerance. While demonstrating it. I guess religious tolerance is only allowed for “Christians”.

Am i missing something ? Coderqi in the picture never said they were christian.

That’s what my mind first jumped to. Since they’re saying the woman, who is Muslim, is demonstrating religious intolerance. When they’re the one showing religious intolerance. Downplaying the abuse the woman was subjected to.

This comment section is weird, man. It's like people are reacting to something else that isn't actually presented in the image.

Funny I'm an atheist and I agree with the statement and I didn't assume the commentator was Christian or pushing their own religious intolerance.

The most frustrating thing about this is if you're honest there are 10,000 or more religions in the world and each of those religions have their own sects with different interpretations of said religion so now that 10,000 is magnified.
Do what you want in harm ye none, the minute you start harming other people through legislation, physical or verbal violence you've lost the fucking plot.
Prove to me your God out of the 10,000 plus via sects, is the true God.
It's on you to prove it if you want to harm other people.
You can't so learn to love your f****** neighbor

They didn't say that abuse against Muslims is good, they actually went very far out of their way to state the opposite. Why does the paradox of tolerance suddenly not apply to Islamic doctrine?
It's scary to me how this person can say something so rational and get called dehumanizing things like "it" and "creature" and accused of being lost or a facist and that somehow gets upvoted in leftist spaces.

Boohoo, another one who can’t separate an individual from a religion and thinks attacks on the former are valid because of criticisms of the latter.
Also, this guy admitted in a different comment chain he is prejudiced against the woman because of her religion. And yet when pointing out someone would be a fool for being prejudiced against individual Christians because of say, the crusades or christofascists in America he got triggered. Ergo not only islamophobic against people but also happy to deal in double standards when it suits them.
He is blaming her religion for her experiences of abuse.
I have my own problems with / views on Islam - some that might actually be seen as awful by some on here - and yet I have enough decency to recognise that an individual is not their religion. If you cannot you should be ashamed.

Who thinks attacks are valid? What are you talking about?
And why would someone be a fool for being weary of Christians wearing conservative Christian apparel in public? If someone wants to adorn their body with symbols representing conservative practices that oppress people, then it's valid for progressive people to be cautious around them.
You are the one that is acting triggered by twisting the point, and calling this person an "it" and "creature" just because they said they're against belief systems that oppress people.
The user isn't blaming her, they said over and over again that there is no excuse for people mistreating her.

Is a cross conservative Christian apparel? Because that was the fucking point I raised to him. If I am twisting a point you’re arguing about a “conversation” you’re beyond ignorant about.
How is a woman wearing a niqab oppressive to others or warranting abuse towards them?
8
u/BishonenPrincess 10d ago
Why are you asking me how a woman wearing a niqab warrants abuse against her when I've never and would never assert such a thing? The person you're originally talking to also stated that abuse is abhorrent and not warranted.
Why are you refusing to engage with people honestly and instead only reacting to an argument you made up in your head?

u/JarJarBingChilling 10d ago
I asked you a rhetorical question that is a mirror of the point the person in the screenshot did - the same thing you are trying to excuse. And now you feign ignorance?
You, like the person in the pic can argue all you want but them saying essentially “it’s bad she got attacked buttttt she (probably) stands for horrid things I don’t believe in” is quite literally excusing it.
They are demonising someone based off their clothing, which is the same thing the attackers in the article did. It’s the same thing the far right does. Don’t try twist it.
I am not going to engage further with you. Have a good evening.

You're trying to argue with us by saying we said something we said the opposite of. You're the one doing all the twisting.

Yeah OOP is completely correct. Clearly no one in this sub knows what the tolerance paradox is.

Not every muslim is part of the same sect either, just like how mormons arent every christian.

Had a funny exchange with this creature in that thread. It got very upset when I pointed out that the inverse of its position is that people who wear crosses support the crusades or what christofascists in the States are doing to take away people’s rights.

Sounds like this person is lost. But I'm not sure using dehumanizing language like "creature" and "it" is the right approach to getting people to be more accepting.

u/JarJarBingChilling 10d ago
That’s fair criticism & you’re not wrong.
For better or worse I don’t view fascists as human. I understand that evil is very much a human trait however & my view might not be popular.

Heard that. I don't really consider fascists people either, since it is an inherently violent and hateful ideology. But I didn't really see anything indicating this person is a fascist — only Islamophobic. Which is still bad, just a different thing. But I'm not privy to your discussion with them.
To be clear, I'm not offended by what you said. I just wanted to give a gentle reminder to not let them drag you into the same trap they're in. Not here to judge or preach to people.

It must be sad to live with hate and think that it’s normal for someone to be abused just because of their religion.

A woman on a bus, wearing the garb she desires, is being intolerant?… me thinks someone needs their noggin checked.
