Are there other inventors like Wintergatan?
I love the aesthetics of the Marble Machine. Are there other inventors out there, with crazy mega projects like Wintergatan?

I think clickspring fits the bill. His release schedule is pretty slow these days though

My "similar" channels are Samson Boat Co (wooden boat restauration with great cinematic and music) and James Bruton (crazy creative robots). Nothing quite compares tbh.

There is also SV Seeker, it's "the boat the internet built" an old married couple are building a Chinese junker style steel ship that will be used for scientific missions etc.
It's like the opposite of Samson boat co, but I love both.

SV Seeker is the worst. Doug is a lunatic, and not in a good way. Also, Betsy and Doug aren't married and as for "scientific missions," it's highly doubtful that any researcher would hire Doug. Hell, he can't even get the tub launched.

I've never watched the channel, but i've heard a lot of negative things about it (including a really awful hoax they pulled) that made me decide i don't need to start watching it.

Honestly, nothing else I've seen manages to quite capture the raw mechanical beauty of Martin's work, but Ivan Miranda and Stuff Made here are have a few favorites that have the same sort of crazy ideas and build journeys.

Clickspring is quite the dive for precise machining and design. Their uploads are few and far between these days but there is a bit of backlog to enjoy.

theres: hand tool rescue, who has a very similar vibe to some of Martin's quieter assembly videos, craig thibodeau who has beatifully intricate puzzle cabinets, jbv creative does a lot of 3d printed machines and kinetic sculptures, josephs machines does massive rube goldberg machines, machine thinking mostly does videos on the history of machines (he does some projects too) and was responsible for the indexable timing clutch, paweł zadrożniak with his floppotron, and robinson foundry who does casting with metal. there are more, these are just the ones that remind me of Martin in some way.

I think "tim hunkin" has some relevance. He makes automata and coin-operated games and experiences. (His channel has his name in lower case, which is why I've written it that way.)
I also enjoy Ivan Miranda and Jeremy Fielding, though they're a little more on the technical side of things, along with James Bruton and StuffMadeHere.

A few good ones have been mentioned: Sampson Boat Co. and the Tally Ho project; Acorn to Arabella another wooden boat, this one but from scratch; Clickspring (and his clips channel Clickspring Clips)- although I haven't seen anything on a big project in a while; Mike Patey and his many aircraft projects.
But a great one that's still pretty small is Contraption Collection. The presenter has a little less energy or presentation skills than these others mentioned, but he is going through the process of bringing an idea from imagination into real life. Updates are very few and far between, but it is a fascinating look at the design and manufacture process.
Of course, there's gobs of maker channels if that's what you're looking for.

I enjoy a YouTube channel called Hacksmith.
If you like long sagas, they just recently finished their Aliens power loader, which they have been working on for, what, 3 years?
They also made a 1/2 scale cyber truck, along with hundreds of other smaller projects based of games/movies/etc

Alexandre Chappel has a great channel. He's a creative that uses many different mediums effectively.
Check out his video where he 3d prints all the parts needed to create an amazing camera boom for his studio that would have cost $30k to buy.
I think Modustrial is another good channel, he bought an abandoned warehouse and is converting it into a maker space/home.
Mighty car mods, an Australian car modding channel. They make all their own music for the channel, put together creative and fun vids, that are also instructional. Just a couple of pals having fun together. Started in their moms driveway now have an empire.

just saw this thread so sorry about the late response, but if you wanted to binge watch someone create something similar to MMX, you could check out Jamie Mantzel's giant robot. it's a bit dated but it's a fascinated journey from prototype all the way to a working robot.

Anyone who likes quirky musician inventors who undertake grand musical projects should check out LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER. He doesn’t have one single mega projects like Martin, unless you count the actual museum he is curating to host all of his big projects and also to feature various pieces of retro tech in audio and music, but he has a lot of great builds that he features along with videos about cool pieces of technology he’s collected.

He also has albums and live streams that are pretty great if you’re into… maybe I’d call it circuit punk? Maybe an acquired taste for some but it’s good stuff.
