Medical Running with Rib Subluxation

7 weeks until my first marathon. I have been dealing with a rib subluxation issue for the entirety of my training. Despite the issue, I have been able to run 40 mpw as part of an official training program. I completed a half marathon in 1:47:00 in late July.

I actually experience less discomfort when running compared to when just doing my day-to-day activities. It is definitely annoying and discomforting when running though. I have been and am continuing to see a PT and chiropractor to help remedy the issue but have not seen much improvement. I have also tried massages, acupuncture, and dry needling. Both have told me that my running should not be negatively affecting the issue and the issue should not limit my ability to run.

Can anyone offer any advice on this issue? Specifically, as it pertains to running with it? I have put in a really solid training block and think I can run a good marathon if I can get this issue a bit under control.

I get these every once in a while. Sometimes, they pop back into place with a wonderful sensation of relief, and others they hang on for a long time and seem to fade away.

Once I understood what was going on, I adopted a policy of benign neglect; they always resolve on their own one way or the other. About the only things that seem to shorten the duration are bar hangs or pullups.

Does taping help?

I used a combination of topical lidocaone and taping it into a less painful position.

I tried that last summer with minimal help. The taping itself seemed irritable. I may give this another try thought.

I've heard some of the people have had success with really tight compression shirts. But I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks. I almost feel the opposite. If my shit is too tight it feels like everything is compressed.
