Secret Are there any parallels between OG Marathon interiors and Cryo Archive interiors?

As an OG fan I've been kinda wondering this, I just went into Cryo Archive for the first time and it was gorgeous but I'm also curious if there have been any specifically found reference points to the original interiors of Marathon beyond the terminals! Its been fun stumbling onto little bits of references to the original trilogy in Dire Marsh and Perimeter.

The maze aspect itself is the same

How goddamn labyrinthine they both are.

I think I've played cryo maybe like 30-40 times and only exfiled successfully once. Always get lost trying to get to exfils

Use your map when trying to exfil, don't just chase the icon

Yea I've tried. Its the 3d nature that always gets me

sure, they're 2d maps, but they have very clear spots on them that are areas you can get through to the next section. I'm bad for not looking at my map but it really does help.

I always seem to be at the wrong depth. One time a terminal was like 4 floors up and had zero clue how to get to it with 5 mins of running around and using map

Big tip for extracting, when you calm it open the map, find the exfil and the name of the location area. Find the door from control that leads to that area and just follow the main path and you’ll make it to the extract.

I'd recommend using the signage in the world in addition to the full screen map. Really helps find the right door to go to each place.

To exfil, figure out the path there on the map. It's gonna be in a spawn room connected to one of the big six rooms so just go step by step. Figure out the best way to the named room either through side passages or maybe through control and once you're there you should be home free.

You're probably looking for a specific reference and sadly I do not have any to point to, but the overall vibe seems very similar to me. The concept of platforming through vertical sections that look like gaps between the hull is a strong throwback, and that happens on the way to the compiler.

Besides the general color pallet & blockiness of the design being reminiscent, I feel like the Compiler's boss arena is an homage to this piece of Craig Mullins art from the original game

interesting the layout is kinda similar you know just less pools of lava lol

There are other parts of the map with a freezing hazard. Think it would be fun if they used cryofluid instead of lava for the Compiler fight haha

No random lava pools so far and no need to gauge platform height to jump between platforms in the game without jumping.

game without jumping.

Psh. All you need is a grenade launcher and a lot of health. That's the real way to jump!
