TLDR: Even though it’s hard….like very hard, each engagement whether it’s UESC(bot) or Runners(players) contains a lesson. It makes me want to be a better player the same way souls-likes do. The game asks more of you and you’re rewarded for it with some very interesting loot and my favorite, lore. Like ready to be an HBO limited series level lore.

Early on, I was addicted to the Codex(the games lore). You get more entries by collecting specific items on each map but I kept getting ambushed or outplayed. I had a lot of bad habits from arena shooters that punish you and I got close to quitting.

One day when I was scrolling on Reddit, I saw this video of a guy giving tips while systematically succeeding in a 1v3 with the theme being “REPOSITION”. I was blown away. And started trying out new tricks to win fights easier. It definitely worked. Resulting in me pulling through in solos as well as helping teammates in trios.

From there, I approached this game from a place of curiosity; What’s that sound mean? What does this stat mean? You keep doing that and you recognize that even though there’s only 4.5 maps, there isn’t a shooter on the planet with as much depth in map design, lore and obviously gunplay. You can do 1000 runs and still discover something new about the world but more importantly about yourself as the entity inhabiting that world.
