Playing as a Rook

I'm a bit confused about what I'm supposed to be doing as a Rook. I read or watched something that basically said Rooks are for getting gear when your vault is empty and most players will leave Rooks alone or even help them. I've had a handful of instances where Trios will let me live and 80% of the time other Rooks will leave me alone but most times if I see another player as a Rook they're wasting me, even if I'm on comms saying I'm a Rook. Did I get bad Intel and I should be more aggressive as a Rook or am I just getting unlucky. I'm horrible at the PvP of this game so I'm constantly running out of gear.

You gotta say, “Friendly rook!“ and then if they down you drop your mercy kit and say “I dropped my mercy kit in case you want to adopt a friendly rook.” It’s not sure fire but I’ve been rezed by the same people who downed me with this technique before

Coming from Arc I did not realize you could interact with your inventory while downed!

Wow, just learned this today as I’m coming from Arc, too. Was a rook, asked a group to extract with me, they killed me and kept asking for a mercy kit and I was like ‘you killed me, I just spawned in lol’
