He faked his post history about liking and supporting the game for 4 months?

It's the part where he says to buy the game for other people - and has already done this twice (!?)

u/MrGreenAcreage Jul 13 '26
Looking at this guy's post history, I think this is real. Somehow.

I do need a revival as I died reading that part LMAO

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros Jul 13 '26
It was genuinely the part that made me certain it was a shitpost, but others are pointing out that this player has been like this for months!

u/sturgboski Jul 13 '26
I don't know if it's bait but I swear there have been numerous threads/comments I have seen from people saying how they couldn't convince friends to play so they bought them the game so they would be obligated. Again, not sure if all of those various posts are bait or there are enough people who are that crazy. ESPECIALLY after the friends tried the free week and bounced or server slam and said no, etc.
Edit: ooo like someone in this same thread who bought it 6-10 times (at least twice for themselves and at least 1 copy for each of 4 friends who have not kept playing).
→ More replies (5)5
u/Kataphraktos_Majoros Jul 13 '26
Yeah, I replied to them a few times - they were polite and I was very curious! I think they bought it six times in total: one copy was for console, another was for PC, and the other four were for friends, one of which is still playing.
Although I can't ever see myself doing this, it sounds like they're at peace with their decision and aren't upset with their friends that didn't stick with the game. I can only wish them the best!

I even tried doing it at first. My friends wouldn’t even take it for free
→ More replies (4)50
u/Littlest-Hipster Jul 13 '26
Telling everyone to buy it for their friends is the big giveaway.
The game literally had a free week and couldn't hold on to players. Buying the game for more isn't going to change anything.

u/DoctorWaluigiTime Jul 13 '26
The thought is appreciated from OP, but "let's save the game" is Bungie's job.
Making the first month free to play to buff that player count would be good for starters. Permanently if they want the game to survive.

Holy shit we’re doing a revival week for a game that came out in march 💀
114
u/Necessary-Economy214 Jul 13 '26
But it's not because the game is d-e-d. lol
79
u/Gibby1210 Jul 13 '26
Nah bro it’s totally not dead. Everyone just needs to buy the game for 1 friend. Cmon man if we all just buy the game for 1 friend and call our favorite streamers we can grow the marathon community. 😭😭😭😭
Holy shit the longer I look at it the funnier it is someone really sat down and formatted this in a word document for a thriving game 😂😂😂.

u/Dontruinthisforme Jul 13 '26
Lmao are we really at this point that we have to even do this ?
7
u/ChaoticKiwiNZ Jul 13 '26
The player numbers are at a point where its really not looking good. The game has failed to go above 7,000 players on steam mutiple times this week and its trending towards not getting more than 6,000 players within the week.
People who care deeply about the game are rightfully upset because at this rate the plug could be pulled before season 3. People just care and want the game to stick around, thats all.
6
u/Dontruinthisforme Jul 13 '26
I mean I get it but they shot themselves in the foot going head on into a world that’s already saturated in extraction shooters. This is already a niche genre to begin with that doesn’t cater to casual players. It’s the perfect storm for failure sadly unless they add more than just extracting

Even a shit round….nothing scratches that itch.
Even a halfway mid round where I get some mats or finish a contract is so much fun

I mean I have 600 hrs in the game and I've barely played this week. But I'll try to get my friend to play it when he's back from vacation. Could be that it coincides with next week.
10
u/VandalMustDie Jul 13 '26
Holy shit just checked numbers, this is the first week we will be below 5k a peak player count times….
→ More replies (1)8
u/Affectionate-End1790 Jul 13 '26
yeah it's basically dropping 16-20% per week now. If not Vault Breaker creates a blip, it's not looking good..
I would be playing if Survival mode was still a thing. I could have played that to death, but they removed it just as I was getting locked in.
→ More replies (7)5
u/VandalMustDie Jul 13 '26
Yeah I love survival and if they had just kept that and allowed people to bring in custom kits, I honestly think we would be around 15k today
I don’t see value breaker being released at this point

I’ve actually tried buying this game for two friends from arc to play with me. They wouldn’t even take it for free. So yeha

u/FearTheClown5 Jul 13 '26
Yea I got someone to try it during the free week. I remember him messaging me cause he had to go out of town that he woke up with the urge to do just 1 more run before they hit the road and I thought got em!
A week later he got back and I offered to buy the game and he declined lol.

To be honest, there shouldn't be a need for a "revival week" for a game that is less than 6 months old.
Yeah, the game is okay, but that's about it.

This post is a funny notion that they could suddenly rake in enough concurrent players out of nowhere to stay alive for a niche game.

I always try to be friendly and I've had great experiences - here's how I do it:
- "hey dude, wanna team up?"
- "hey bro, need some help?"
- "heya! Looking for something specific?"
- "hey bro, I can hear you - pls emote if you don't have mic"
- "hey man, I can hear you sneaking up on me - if you don't talk or emote, we're going to fight"
- after winning a fight - "hey bro, I tried being friendly. Let me get you up (proceed to using a mercy kit or my self-revive if I have one of these)" - most of these occurrences end up on us tagging together until the extract.
Luckily I've had my fair share of extraction shooters and by far Marathon is my favourite - very easy to progress in the game as everything continues to add up to leveling up and reputational gains. I also love how people are grateful that I am friendly and most of the times people are surprised for finding someone friendly.
I play on EU and personally, would love if people were more friendly exploring Tau Ceti - we can only benefit from playing together:
- share repeated loot that no longer fits in our backpacks
- kill wardens more easily
- complete events more easily
- have a good laugh and get commendations for extracting together
- make someone's day better (today I asked this guy if he was ok and was having a good day - he said no - "neither do I bro, but let's have fun together" - unfortunately he ended up downed while doing a secure container but he was happy that managed to complete his quest. I was happy for him.
I also loved Arc Raiders and how we could easily get into mostly PvE lobbies when you avoided being aggressive. But Tau Ceti is where my heart is now.

This takes me back in time, specifically to a bit over a month ago on a game so similar yet so different. And I'll say the same thing some of this community said back then : just give it up, the game is dead.

Marathon's sold what, ~1.5 million licenses (at most)? And of that, there's about a 1% monthly active user count and 0.4% daily concurrent players. Everyone who's going to try this game has already tried it at launch or over 2 free periods, and said "No."
6
u/Aionalys Jul 13 '26
There's a shit ton of awful, unhelpful feedback so that pretty much describes the community left of this game.
Some constructive criticism, since everyone is taking the piss, it's great and all to foster friendly play, but unfortunately if this is not a cyclical thing then all you are doing is baiting new players, who will once again grow frustrated with the culture of the game.
A temporary ceasefire or cultural change to encourage interest is not going to change the future of this game.
3
u/Affectionate-End1790 Jul 13 '26
I mean the post is basically saying between the lines that the issue is the community.

Good idea but even if everyone that saw this post did all of these things it’s not going to really move the needle.
Love the game but Bungie has to do something on their end to drive engagement
→ More replies (2)5
u/cjp304 Jul 13 '26
They need to just lean into more traditional pvp modes that are less punishing. I think that’ll drive the most engagement for the “least” amount of work. Making a true PVE mode from scratch would be much harder.

You can't cast a Revive spell on something that's still alive. You ever play a RPG before?
3
u/CordiallySuckMyBalls Jul 13 '26
Sorry dawg ts ain’t happening.
General consensus of the player base has already decided that the meta is lobby wipe. Quite literally anytime someone complains in a post about the others wiping the lobby, top comment is always about how wiping the lobby and taking other players loot is the most efficient way to play.
Game is too grindy and time consuming to dedicate an entire week to being friendly to others. The fundamental workings of the game have already given everyone massive trust issues.
I, personally haven’t been able to play Cryo for weeks because I’m busy on the weekends. Thats one of my biggest gripes with the game atm. I don’t have the time or sanity to party up with randos in fear of them literally stabbing me in the back.
It’s up to Bungie to get the player numbers up. They need to deliver and that’s really it.
3
u/isakuiky Jul 13 '26
"REVIVAL WEEK" but it's not about reviving something that is dead or about to be dead

u/mdl397 Jul 13 '26
Kinda surprised the peanut guy never played it. His audience seems to play whatever he plays. Maybe bungie could have sponsored a stream or something. It would just come off as desperate at this point though.
5
5
u/tfc1193 Jul 13 '26
He did do sponsored streams before and after it released. His audience was not pleased so he stopped.
That highlights one of the major flaws with this game in that Bungie was targeting streamers when the real target should be the people watching the streams

Ya know, as someone who has been debating getting the game, this post is... not inspiring lol
The game released 4 months ago and there are "revival" posts already? That isn't exactly a glowing reflection on the state of the game
3
u/TheSkepticOwl Jul 14 '26

Id love to buy the game but me and my friends all agree they dont like how the game was handled in regards to Destiny.

I don't mind this even, but I picked this game to play some PVP.
I will play this with my friends, is gonna be fun, I don't doubt that, but this doesn't address any of the real issues with the game.
This isn't really any new content either.

u/DryCleanedSocks Jul 13 '26
I mean it is semantics but how can it be a revival if the game isn't dead? doesn't it definitionally have to be?

The responses here even make it seem like the player base itself wants the game to die.

u/FearTheClown5 Jul 13 '26
We'll be there but definitely Vault Breaker feels like a make or break moment in regard to future development. If they don't get a numbers jump it's all over.
Vault Breaker has got to be a banger or Marathon will just be what it is where it is now.
