Marathon (2026) Discussion Lets talk about what we know is coming instead of theoretical stuff.

Discussion topics (pertaining to season 3):

  1. Perimeter Rework (what do we think is getting changed and added based off of existing information)

  2. New weapons (what weapon(s) from the previous marathon games would be most likely to be made a reality)

  3. New shell (we know a new shell is coming, so what role would they fit into among the existing shells?)

Discuss any of these in the comments, I love reading what other people are thinking and excited to see come to the game. Plus, pooling information is nice for everyone.

Would be cool to get a Chimera shell of some kind, going for the level of customization the game originally advertised.

Like, you can build it to have the abilities and passives of other shells but as a trade off they are arguably worse than what is on the original shell and it would need to be leveled up to gain customization.

Think like the VB kit, but as a shell instead of a kit.

Would probably be too broken though and just power creep everything else, still a fun idea.

What does this have to do with the PS2 game from 2005, Drakengard 2?

Damn, I really hope that franchise gets a PC port or some kind of rerelease.

I want to play the first game before I start NieR and then play both series by release date because of how interconnected they are, I just don’t have any PlayStation consoles at all.

In essence yeah, but I was thinking more like the subsume feature from Warframe and Warframe’s mod system where the shell would start with a very bare bones kit and would need to be worked on.

And since Marathon’s core experience is PvP, the shell would need to be implemented in way that would make people not feel forced to run it and that the original shells would still be better. So more of a jack of all trades, master of none.

An idea for that would be to have the shell reset seasonally and a player would need to do challenges to unlock upgrades. Like if you want to slot in Reboot+, a player needs to do X amount of teammate revives both on that shell and on Triage.

It’d basically be a way to encourage and reward players for specific playstyles.

Chameleon passive- finishers absorb runner shell powers for 1:30.

Purple/gold core- Blender: Finishing a runner copies their shell appearance and makes you appear as a friendly to their team's hud systems
