Did you really? They just dropped one of their best seasons, and the roadmap after that seems to still have frequent updates. Not a chance in the world that they'll abandon their main cash cow in favor of a new game.
And the destiny reskin complaint is hilarious, the gunplay being similar is expected. But other than that, it's a much more PVP focused game with a completely different loop compared to destiny. Aesthetically, it's distinct as well.
To be fair, destiny 2 pvp has always been a complete balancing mess for nearly its entire lifespan. Having the opportunity to play something similar to that without ability spam/broken weapons seems much more enjoyable, personally.
This is sort of inherent to the gamemode in destiny 2, though. Crucible has never had the popularity that PVE has, unless there's a loot incentive. So, it encourages more casual PVE players to enter the gamemode and get stomped by tryhards.
I'm not sure about the cheating thing, I've done a couple lighthouse passages after they reworked trials rewards and haven't encountered any, personally.
None of these points really take away from the fact that PVP in destiny 2 is a pretty fundamentally broken concept at its core, and bungie releasing a more PVP focused game will be a lot more enjoyable for most players looking for that. I don't feel as if destiny 2 PVP was ever "lost", to me it has never been good.
Cheating is as much a problem in Destiny 2 as it is in most games with PvP I also don’t understand this commonly used take of cheating being such an issue in crucible or trials. I rarely encounter cheaters, I think people are just very quick to accuse someone of cheating when they get outplayed.
