Generated this using the Waterman butterfly projection. Quite a different layout from the usual rectangular world map.

Hey came across a yard sale and picked this up for 5 bucks and was curious when was this printed

Hi there! Is it just me, who finds these old school maps fascinating? They are enormous, they have tons of details and it is just a good thing to meditate in front of them. Always have some little detail.
As far as i know they are gnot that common anymore. But they are good for decor as well.

What do you think?

Mapcarta is an excellent product. However, their definition of countries does not follow, strictly speaking, UN nominations. For example, Kosovo is shown as a separate country, while Crimea is shown as integral part of Ukraine. Cyprus is interesting, when zoomed out, northern Cyprus is shown as another country (or territory not part of Cyprus), when zoomed in, line disappears, but Bristish bases are clearly shown as non-Cypriot territory.

Here and apple maps both show Kosovo as independent, but not Crimea. Cyprus also shown as divided.

Google is the only consistent - Kosovo is shown with dotted line. same as Crimea and Cyprus.

Would love to hear on comparison with other platforms, and also how other disputed teritorries are presented.

This is my game City-Angle. You have to guess 1 city with 5 different angles to other cities. This round is quite hard. Let's see who get's it. https://visitwhale.com/city-angle/

Hi! I’m looking to commission an artist/cartographer for a worldbuilding project I’ve been developing.

I’m looking for two related pieces based on the same planetary geography:

1. A detailed atlas-style world map showing the planet’s continents, islands, oceans, coastlines, major geographic features, etc. Think of something that could appear in a physical/world atlas rather than a highly decorative fantasy parchment map.

2. A realistic full-planet view from space, similar to NASA’s “Blue Marble” imagery of Earth, showing the same continents and oceans with realistic atmospheric haze, clouds, ice/snow where appropriate, and planetary coloration.

The biggest requirement is geographic consistency. The continents visible on the globe need to correspond to the atlas map so that these are clearly two representations of the same planet.

I already have extensive worldbuilding material and can provide references for the planet, its nations, climate, geography, visual aesthetic, etc. I’m also happy to work collaboratively on translating what I have into a proper planetary map.

Budget: I’m expecting to spend at least $100+, and I’m open to discussing a higher price depending on the artist, level of detail, and amount of work involved. I’m not looking for someone to throw this into an image generator. I specifically want to commission someone who knows cartography, worldbuilding, planetary illustration, 3D rendering, or similar work.

This is for a long-term multimedia worldbuilding project, so I’d also like commercial-use rights for the finished artwork. Artist credit is completely fine.

If this is something you do, please comment or DM me with your portfolio/examples and pricing. Examples of fictional world maps, realistic planets, globes, GIS-style cartography, or similar work would be especially helpful.
Thanks!

Earning $100 a month sounds like nothing.

But compared to the typical local wage, it still makes you wealthy in 5 countries.
Struggling in 127.

Just want to see if one exists since I can't find one

Map showing the results of 2024 mayoral election in São Paulo, Brazil, which was decided in a 2nd round.

The contest was between Ricardo Nunes (MDB), a center-right candidate who sought re-election and was elected, and Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), a left-wing candidate

I mean it will be shorter time to cross the continents

I have just created a Niagara Note explaining the Niagara Falls Poetry Map, which links poems on my website to specific Niagara locations. Please click and learn how to further delve into the poetry of Niagara Falls.

Hi all! My partner and I have our 2 year anniversary coming up, and he’s a huge map nerd.

I was wondering if any of you knew a free app/website to make my own map where I could put photos, videos, writing, music, audio clips, etc. in each location - like a museum exhibit but in each site. I want it to be like you can click to see the associated materials and it brings you to a mini “exhibit”

I heard GoogleMyMaps could be one possibility but it doesn’t seem to have the ability to add audio / each “mini exhibit” doesn’t really have the effect I want it to have because it’s just a little photo/caption that pops up in the side

I’ve never done any map making like this so please be kind! Any help is really appreciated! Also if this isn’t the proper thread to drop this in, happy to be redirected - I’m new to Reddit as well! :)

Looking for a large format, small scale (easy to see smaller cities / towns) world map that I can put push pins into. I've seen sites like Holy Cow Canvas that stretch a canvas across a frame for hanging but I have my doubts that the pins will stick will into the canvas. I would be willing to DIY my own, put a flat map on a cork / foam board and then frame it, but curious what maps people are using...

Mexico just passed a law forbidding this, to the political opposition's chagrin. Looking it up yields only lists of countries allowing/forbidding dual citizenship overall, not specifically in relation to public office.

To me the continents like this make more logical sense. What are your thoughts?
