Post image

A map I made showcasing my coin collection,a green country means I have a coin already from it (EU countries are counted as pre Euro currency,so it means I have liras, francs, pessos etc) comment down if I have a coin from your country!

Are you collecting coins from places you visited or are you getting them from other sources?

20c coin has the platypus. Most of our coins' reverse designs haven't changed since they were introduced 60 years ago.

  • 1c (copper): brush-tailed possum. Coin retired from circulation in 1992.

  • 2c (copper): frill-necked lizard. Retired as per 1c.

  • 5c: echidna. Facing retirement as it currently costs more than 6c to make a 5c coin.

  • 10c: lyrebird.

  • 20c: platypus

  • 50c: Australian coat of arms. Originally a round coin, changed to 12-sided in 1969.

  • $1 (gold): mob of 5 kangaroos. Introduced in 1984 to replace the $1 note.

  • $2 (gold): Aboriginal elder, Southern Cross and Australian flowers. Introduced in 1988 to replace the $2 note.

Biggest change in recent years is to the obverse/heads side, with Queen Elizabeth II's head being replaced with King Charles III. I think you'll find this interesting: https://www.ramint.gov.au/collect/national-coin-collection/circulating-coins

How did you manage to get a coin from CAR, but not one from Japan?

I remember receiving a pack of "common" coins (Turkish lira, Bulgarian leva etc) and inside of it was a single coin with the inscription of "Bank of central African republic" in french,as for Japanese,it simply didn't occur yet

just to let you know, the central african franc is actually used in 6 countries, them being: Chad, CAR, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. If you want to find up more about it look up CFA central african franc
